Emmerdale fans figure out why John and Aaron's wedding registrar looked so familiar

Daily Record2 days ago

Emmerdale fans were on the edge of their seats on Wednesday night as Aaron Dingle and John Sugden came within seconds of tying the knot. But they recognised the registrar from somewhere.
If you thought John Sugden and Aaron Dingle's wedding registrar looked familiar on Wednesday's (May 28) episode of Emmerdale, you're not alone. John (Oliver Farnworth) and Aaron's (Danny Miller) wedding has been taking place in this week's episodes, but in true soap fashion, there have been countless dramas along the way.
Secret villain John has been haunted by nightmares of being caught for Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) murder as the lake gets emptied due to the slurry leak at Butler's Farm. That's not all, as Aidan Moore's (Geoff Dignan) mother, and Cathleen (Julia Watson), urged John to go and visit his ex-fiancé in the hospital after he awoke from a coma, reports Leicester Live.

Aaron followed John to the hospital and momentarily called off the wedding when he realised that his fiancé was visiting his ex on their wedding day.

Meanwhile, in The Woolpack, the Dingles tried to contact the grooms as the wedding registrar became increasingly agitated.
Despite the hurdles, John and Aaron eventually made it down the aisle on Wednesday night, but the mood soon shifted when an unexpected visitor crashed the wedding.
During the ceremony, the registrar said: "If any person here present knows of any lawful impediment to this marriage, they should declare it now."

Just as the couple were about to say their vows, Aaron's ex-husband, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), rushed through the door, saying: "Hello Aaron, missed me?" before the credits began rolling.
Soap viewers will recall Robert being handed a 14-year prison sentence back in 2019 after he pleaded guilty to the attack on Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie).
The registrar, who hasn't been named, is played by actress Janine Mellor, with several Emmerdale viewers only just realising that she previously starred on a rival soap.

Over the years, Janine has appeared on Fat Friends, Holby City, Coronation Street, Doctor Who and Doctors.
However, she is best known for her role in Casualty as nurse Kelsey Phillips, appearing in 169 episodes.

Kelsey worked in the emergency department from 2005 to 2009. The character left the hospital in season 23 as she chose to start a new life.
After watching Janine appear on Emmerdale in recent scenes, many soap fans have taken to social media to share her connection to Casualty.

"Where do I know the registrar from, I have a feeling I've seen her before," one person asked on a Facebook fan page.
"Think she was a nurse in Casualty years back," another confirmed, with a third saying: "Oh my gosh she was in classic Casualty!"
A fourth viewer echoed the sentiment, noting: "Ah it's Kelsey!" with another sharing: "Her name was Kelsey in Casualty, what a throwback."

Inside British Soap Awards afterparty - bleary-eyed stars smoking and bomb scare

A whole host of soap stars let their hair down at the British Soap Awards in London last night before a reported bomb scare ground the show's afterparty to a halt Stars of the nation's favourite soaps were papped looking bleary-eyed as they left the British Soap Awards in London last night. The glitzy event, which was held at Hackney Town Hall, celebrated the creative cast from a whole host of shows, including EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale. After the ceremony in which EastEnders waltzed away with an impressive eight gongs, beating Emmerdale, Corrie and Hollyoaks to take home Best British Soap, a slew of excitable stars let their hair down at the afterparty. Jaime Winstone, Patsy Palmer and Tina O'Brien were among those snapped at the bash, which went on until the early hours. ‌ ‌ Award-winning actor Ray Winstone's daughter, Jaime, was seen puffing on a cigarette, sporting a thigh-high white a gold dress as she left the venue with Bianca Jackson star, Patsy Palmer. Patsy looked stunning in a blue silk blazer and matching trousers, which set off her red hair a treat as she grinned after watching EastEnders clean up at the awards. Also representing EastEnders was Jack Branning star, Scott Maslen. He was also seen puffing on a cigarette, wearing a tux and holding a bottle of beer, as he celebrated the success of Albert Square. ‌ The actor was joined at the knees-up by fellow Walford wonders, Anita Dobson, who played the iconic Angie Watts, and Ian Beale star Adam Woodyatt. Meanwhile, representing Coronation Street, actress Tina O'Brien was seen making an exit from the after party in the early hours. She looked stunning in a floor-length nude coloured dress with gold sequins, clutching a baby pink bag as she made her way to her hotel in the capital. ‌ Also at the bash on behalf of Corrie, was actor Jack P Shepherd and Mollie Gallagher, who looked quite content chomping on a burger in the street, wearing a gorgeous powder blue dress with tuille detail and a cute black hair bow. Despite letting their hair down at the glamourous bash, the night allegedly ended abruptly for the soap stars after they were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat. ‌ Speaking to the Mirror, our source said: "We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately. "As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren't allowed back in the building so people started making their way home." In a video shared with us, some of TV's biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate - with the likes of ' and former star Emmett J Scanlan among them. ‌ A show source also told The Mirror: "Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely." The Metropolitan Police also told us: "At 00:49hrs on Sunday, 1 June, police were called to Hackney Town Centre after a threat was made to the premises. The call was determined to be a hoax and nothing suspicious was located." ‌ The Mirror has contacted ITV. Despite the reported drama after the ceremony, the awards were a real celebration of the best the soap world has to offer. ‌ EastEnders was honoured with a total of eight awards- including Best Dramatic Performance for Steve McFadden and Best Single Episode for Phil Mitchell's psychosis. Meanwhile, Hollyoaks won three gongs, Emmerdale took home two and Coronation Street left with one - the Outstanding Achievement Award to David Neilson, who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years.

Romesh Ranganathan opens up about turbulent childhood as dad sent to jail for fraud

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan has opened up about his teenage years as his life was turned upside down when his father went to prison. TV presenter and comedy star Romesh Ranganathan has recently opened up about his turbulent childhood when his father was sent to prison for two years for fraud. Opening up on Radio 4's show Desert Island Disc, the comedian shared how his life was completely turned upside down due to his father's actions. At the time of the imprisonment, Romesh was a teenager living in Crawley. He recalled that he was attending a private school at the time when he, his younger brother and mother were forced to move out of their family home and into a Bed and Breakfast. ‌ He said: "My dad had fallen into financial trouble. What it turns out is that he'd lost his job and he was trying to make money in this sort of Sri Lankan Del Boy way, and it wasn't working out. ‌ "And he couldn't keep up the mortgage repayments on their house. And they couldn't afford, even with my scholarship, they still couldn't afford the fees at this school I was going to." To make matters worse, it soon became apparent that his father Ranga was having an affair, reports the Mirror. When is father disappeared for several days, Romesh recalled having to ask the "other women" where his dad was. ‌ In doing so, Romesh found out that his father had been arrested. He explained: "She tells us that my dad had been arrested three days previously, and he had been involved in some sort of fraud case. I don't know why we'd not heard, why he'd not got in touch, but this lady knew. "He ended up going to prison for two years, or just under two years. You know, I remember my dad being convicted and going to prison the day before my birthday. "I think it's my 15th birthday. And so my friends are having a party for me. I just went and pretended that wasn't going on because you want some normalcy." ‌ "Because for a while, we moved out of the house, and then a counsellor gave us a room in a bed and breakfast." Speaking to Lauren Laverne, Romesh said that he remembered his mother crying during this period of time and that she managed to get a job as a cleaner to help provide for her sons. ‌ When his father did come back home after being imprisoned, Romesh said they were able to patch up their relationship over time. The 47-year-old said: "On my dad's 60th birthday, by that time, our relationship had really kind of improved. I'd had kids at that point, and I saw the way that my dad was being with my children. "I was like, I've never seen this side of my dad, and we're in a really good place. My memory of my dad is of like a flawed tornado." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Romesh also candidly spoke about his struggles with mental health on the Radio 4 show, admitting that he had thought about taking his own life more than once and saw it as a solution to his emotional turmoil. While he admits that he has experienced serious dark periods in this life, he has now learned how to manage those times. He touches on some of his experiences through his comedy shows, but he is aware that he needs to be careful about how far he goes. He explained: "You got to be careful because it's triggering. I'm trying to destigmatise (mental health) but you do also have to be mindful of the fact that people may have been affected by that and then if I suddenly say I had thoughts about taking my own life and somebody's lost someone through that or they've had those moments themselves, you have to be sensitive to that and you don't always get it right but I think the rewards outweigh the risks."

The group immediately assumed that it was Anthony Fox, and that John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) put his body in the lake after Ruby killed him.
