Novak Djokovic 'Not Planning To Finish' Wimbledon Career Yet; Eyes Comeback Next Year
Djokovic, after losing to Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals, vowed to return. Despite injuries and semifinal exits in all three majors this year, he remains determined.
Novak Djokovic may be down for the moment, but he certainly is not out yet.
After falling to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals on Friday, the Serbian made one thing unmistakably clear: this was not a goodbye.

'I'm not planning to finish my Wimbledon career today," said the 38-year-old Djokovic. 'I'm planning to come back definitely — at least one more time."
Djokovic's 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 loss to World No. 1 Sinner at Centre Court brought his hopes and dreams of equalling Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles and a record-setting 25th Grand Slam crown to an abrupt end.
The defeat came just two days after the World No. 6 suffered what he called a 'nasty" and 'awkward" fall late in his quarterfinal match, which appeared to limit his movement during the semifinal.
'I don't want to talk in detail about my injury and just whine about not managing to play my best," Djokovic said. 'I do feel disappointed that I just wasn't able to move as well as I thought or hoped that I would."
Since then, it's been a rocky road for the Serbian.
At the 2024 Australian Open, he lost to Sinner. At the French Open, he was forced to withdraw before the quarterfinals due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, which required surgery. Then, in the 2023 Wimbledon final, he fell to Alcaraz — his second straight loss in a final to the young Spaniard.
This year, Djokovic has exited in the semifinals of all three majors. He retired after one set at the Australian Open due to a torn hamstring, lost to Sinner at Roland-Garros, and again at Wimbledon.

Swiatek cruises, Osaka battles through in Montreal
Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek cruised into the third round of the WTA Canadian Open on Wednesday as Naomi Osaka fought off two match points to advance with a three-set win over Liudmila Samsonova. Swiatek cruises, Osaka battles through in Montreal Swiatek, seeded second in her first tournament since her crushing victory over Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon final, breezed past Chinese qualifier Guo Hanyu 6-3, 6-1, breaking Guo's serve six times. Her untroubled tournament opener followed Osaka's battling victory over Samsonova. The four-time Grand Slam champion from Japan saved back-to-back match points in the 10th game of the second set, and trailed 5-2 in the second-set tiebreaker on the way to a 4-6, 7-6 , 6-3 triumph. Osaka, now working with Tomasz Wiktorowski after announcing on Monday she had split with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, notched her first win over a top-20 player since she beat Karolina Muchova at the Australian Open. But she had to dig deep for the win after surrendering early breaks in each of the first two sets. Wimbledon quarter-finalist Samsonova served for the match at 5-4 in the second and led 40-15. The Russian fired a forehand long on her first match point and on her second a lackluster drop shot effort gave Osaka an opening and the Japanese star pounced. Samsonova's double fault on break point allowed Osaka to level the set, and after storming back in the tiebreaker to force a third set Osaka took control early, breaking Samsonova twice on the way to a 4-1 lead. "She definitely came out really hard and, for me, I was definitely overwhelmed and I didn't know if I should also be hitting winners," Osaka said. "But after a while I just tried to keep the ball in court," added Osaka, who snapped a four-match losing streak in three-setters. Osaka next faces Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, who beat Mexico's Renata Zarazua 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Australian Open champion Madison Keys, the sixth seed, opened her Canadian campaign with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Laura Siegemund, avenging a third-round loss to the German at Wimbledon. bb/mw This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

US Open announces stellar cast for mixed doubles
New York, July 30 (UNI) The US Open has confirmed 14 of the pairings that will compete for $1m (£749,077) in next month's controversial mixed doubles event. Organisers were heavily criticised in February after announcing that the mixed doubles competition would be a standalone event on August 19-20 - before the hard court Grand Slam begins on August 24. British number one Emma Raducanu and five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz are one of six wildcard pairings, with eight teams gaining direct entry. The US Open said a further two wildcard entries will be announced at a later date. Of the 14 teams named so far, there are eight men and six women ranked in the top 10 in singles, and nine Grand Slam singles champions. Venus Williams takes up one of the wildcard places alongside fellow American Reilly Opelka. Wimbledon singles champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner have direct entry with their respective partners Casper Ruud and Emma Navarro, according to a BBC news. British number one Jack Draper also goes into the draw via that route, partnering Spain's Paula Badosa. Last year's mixed doubles winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori - who described the scheduling change as a "profound injustice" in a joint statement in February, and dubbed the new format "a pseudo-exhibition focused only on entertainment and show" - have received a wildcard entry.
