Astronomer CEO Goes Viral After Dodging Jumbotron At Coldplay Concert
A pair attending a Coldplay concert became internet-famous after the jumbotron highlighted an alleged affair between the two, inspiring an online meme-frenzy.
On Wednesday, footage from a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts went viral after the jumbotron displayed a couple comfortably watching the concert, a man with his arms around a woman.
As soon as the pair notice that they are being filmed, they startle, moving away and hiding their faces from the camera.
The dramatic reaction earned live commentary from Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, who joked: 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.'
After the footage was posted online, spreading through TikTok, X (Twitter), and Instagram, the pair were identified as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company's HR chief Kristin Cabot.
Unfortunately for the two, both became internet celebrities overnight, as the internet began to dig deeper into the story and make memes.
The drama of the reaction, along with the gossipy details, had social media users tuning in to find out as much as they could, turning the alleged affair between the two into content.
The story became akin to a moment from reality television, with commentators taking sides and debating over the details like an episode of Love Island .
One X commentator wrote: 'I know infidelity is bad but being a CEO holding your VP of HR in your arms at a Coldplay concert has to feel so good. Sometimes love is wrong but still real.'
Internet sleuths kept digging deeper, reportedly identifying a second woman in the footage, who can be seen standing next to the pair and awkwardly laughing, as another employee of Astronomer.
Many posted about how much they were enjoying the situation, as though it were the conclusion to a thrilling drama series.
Others pointed out that the pair could likely have avoided detection, if they had kept their composure.
The image of the two enjoying the concert in blissful ignorance, seconds before realizing that they were in the eye of the jumbotron, instantly became a meme—one commentator suggested that the two would make a good couple's costume.
Some were surprised at how quickly the story had consumed the internet.
One commentator joked out that Astronomer, a software development firm, had become a household name due to the dramatic story, as though the company had enlisted Nathan Fielder to help them go viral.
Many made jokes about LinkedIn, leaning into the 'office gossip' aspect of the drama—one commentator wrote:
'Worst part about this is you know it's gonna lead to him posting on linkedin something like 'i got caught cheating at a coldplay concert. here's what it taught me about b2b sales''
A fake-but-viral post on X, written as a satirical apology from Astronomer's CEO, concludes with a solemn confession: 'I am a Coldplay fan. And not just of the first two albums. I also like the recent stuff.'
The Coldplay jumbotron moment highlights the unpredictable nature of virality—a juicy piece of workplace gossip that the entire internet decided to indulge in, together. From Justin Timberlake's lackluster performance to Coldplay's 'kiss cam' scandal, concerts are making headlines this summer — but not for the music
Timberlake fans waited in the rain — and then accused the singer of giving a "soulless" performance. Each year, millions of people purchase tickets to see their favorite artists live in concert — and that number is only growing. And while Taylor Swift may not currently be performing, following the end of her nearly two-year Eras Tour, other stars, such as Beyoncé and Coldplay, are filling in the gap, attracting massive crowds and making headlines. But several recent concerts have made waves this summer for reasons unrelated to the music. In fact, some of the biggest pop culture moments of the season so far have taken place at concerts, from a major 'kiss cam' scandal to a pop star who doesn't appear to be singing much. Justin Timberlake gets called out for not singing Justin Timberlake has been known for his vocal range since his NSync days, which is why many fans were surprised to find that, during his recent world tour, he didn't seem to be singing all that much. Multiple videos posted on social media this month from different shows across the tour show the 'SexyBack' artist singing a few bars before holding out the mic for the audience to take the rest of a verse. During a July 17 performance at Transylvania's Electric Castle festival, fans who waited in the rain for JT later accused him of giving a middling performance. In an Instagram post, Timberlake thanked fans for attending the 'wild show' and 'rockin' with me in the rain,' but many fans expressed their disappointment in the comments. 'Not THAT wild of a show … and I'm a huge fan,' one wrote. 'The delay I got, I accepted it, but the part with you not singing even your most famous verses.. nope, I did not. Us in the crowd wanted to hear you sing the songs we played at home over and over again and danced on so many times, but unfortunately you did not deliver this time.' Another commenter wrote that they bought tickets to the festival just for Timberlake and 'waited patiently' for the show to start even after a 'big delay.' However, they wrote, 'something happened.' 'You did not click with the crowd, the show felt soulless and bored, ended abruptly and earlier,' the commenter continued. 'It was disrespectful towards the many thousands of people waiting for you. Too bad, could have been a nice evening.' Still, others defended Timberlake, arguing that it seemed clear — at least at the Electric Castle festival performance — that the Social Network actor was under the weather. Katy Perry almost falls out of the air midsong Katy Perry's Lifetimes Tour has been endlessly memed on social media, with fans both delighted and baffled by the futuristic-themed spectacle. Some have called it 'messy, while others have found the show emblematic of the campy charm Perry is known for. But Perry's performance of 'Roar' during her July 18 concert in San Francisco inspired genuine fear from the audience when the mechanical butterfly she was hanging on to dropped unexpectedly. Perry handled the situation like a pro (and fortunately she held tight to the butterfly!), but the reactions made clear that aerial stunts are not for the faint of heart — whether you're a performer or just below one in the audience. Coldplay sparks a 'kiss cam' scandal During Coldplay's July 16 show at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, the band's frontman, Chris Martin, had some fun with the crowd while performing 'The Jumbotron Song.' When a couple showed up on the "kiss cam" and then ducked out of view immediately, Martin joked that they were either 'having an affair' or 'just very shy.' Turns out, Martin was correct. The internet did its thing and quickly discovered the identities of the people at the concert, the CEO of tech firm Astronomer, Andy Byron, and his chief people officer, Kristin Cabot. Both are married to other people. The awkward moment sparked endless memes as well as conversations about privacy in today's digital age. Beyoncé is left hanging after a concert malfunction Perry isn't the only pop star who was left dangling onstage due to a faulty prop. Beyoncé's July 28 concert in her hometown of Houston ended abruptly after the flying car prop she was seated in while singing '16 Carriages' malfunctioned, leaving her suspended and tilted in midair. After stopping the song, Beyoncé was eventually lowered and able to get out of the car safely. She even returned to finish performing the hit track from her Cowboy Carter album after a brief pause backstage. Solve the daily Crossword

Millennials, I'm Dying To Know The "Cringe" Millennial Trends That Should Be Buried In The Archives Forever
Everything that's being marketed to us these days feels like a remix of the past, from reboots and remakes to low-rise jeans and pop-punk revivals. If you're a millennial, you've probably already seen it all the first time when it was still considered cutting-edge. Related: Maybe it's the rise of AI, the TikTok-fueled nostalgia economy, or just the fact that Gen Z never knew a world without social media. However, originality feels like it's gone missing. And if you've recently seen a pair of JNCO jeans in the wild or a trucker hat at brunch, you might've felt a full-body shudder. Related: As someone considered an Unc in certain circles — and maybe I'm just grumpy and jaded — I have a sneaking suspicion a few of you feel the same way I do. For the millennials of the BuzzFeed Community, what's the trend — fashion, lifestyle, aesthetic, internet behavior — that deserves to stay buried in the past? Related: A few come to my mind off the top: skinny jeans, am I right? I'm honestly surprised they didn't cause long-term blood circulation issues for those of us whose legs couldn't even breathe in them. And while some are attempting to make them fashionable again, it's really just a big no. Although I wouldn't be shocked if it happens again soon, I'm begging for Instagram's in-app filters to stay dead and buried. We don't need them. Let's move on. Related: And maybe most importantly, can we let hustle culture die already? I'll give Gen Z credit: they've done a great job rejecting the grind economy, and let's hope it stays that way. We already know we're getting the short end of the stick, no matter how burnt out we get. And while we're at it, let's retire the whole "can't adult today" energy, too. We're grown. We pay bills. We're just exhausted. On that note, share the millennial trends that should remain in the past and never return in the comment section. For those who feel they have especially hot takes on the matter and would prefer to remain anonymous, feel free to fill out the form below. Also in Community: Also in Community: Also in Community:
