Power supply to Uttarakhand's remote border villages and ITBP posts for first time since Independence
The work plan focuses on reaching these highly inaccessible and strategically crucial areas adjacent to the India-China border, marking a new chapter of development and connectivity for Uttarakhand's frontier regions.
The tendering process has been completed for projects to provide grid-based electricity supply to the 43 ITBP outposts and 882 homes across eight border villages identified under the Vibrant Village Programme. These key locations are spread across the Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, and Chamoli districts.
Under the Vibrant Village Programme, Purali village in Uttarkashi district, along with Nabi, Kutti, Gunji, Garbyang, Shila, Baling, and Tidang villages in Pithoragarh, have been selected for grid connectivity to 882 homes in total. Survey work is currently underway, including technical assessments, line route determination, pole placement, transformer planning, and other essential preparatory tasks.
UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar stated, 'Under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, both these schemes are extremely crucial from the perspective of national security and rural empowerment.' He added that despite the challenging weather conditions and limited accessibility in these mountainous regions, UPCL's regional teams are working on a war footing to achieve these targets

PU to release third cut-off list for UG courses on June 27
Patna: Patna University (PU) is likely to release the third cut-off list for admission to the four-year undergraduate programmes in its different constituent colleges in the current academic session (2025-26) on June 27. As many as 2,913 students have already been admitted from the first and second cut-off lists so far. The total number of sanctioned seats in these colleges is 4,531. PU dean of students' welfare, Anil Kumar, said the third and final merit list of candidates selected for admission against the vacant seats in different honours courses in different colleges will be announced on June 27. The candidates figuring in this list will have to secure their admission on June 30 and July 1. Students who took admission in the second round and opted for the sliding option would be considered for their upgrade (of the choice of college or honours subject or both) in the third round of admission, subject to the availability of seats in honours subjects, said the dean. Candidates have been directed to download their admit cards from the PU website and reach the examination centre at least one hour before the commencement of the test. College-wise induction meet of newly admitted students in the current session (2025-26) will be held on July 2, and the classes of the new batch will commence on July 3, the dean added.

Kochi corp designs Rs 100-cr project to renovate Pandarachira Canal
Kochi: Kochi corporation designed a Rs 100 crore project to rejuvenate Pandarachira Canal in West Kochi. The project is funded by Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA), an international agency that works to build resilience in coastal communities and ecosystems. "Integrated Urban Regeneration and Water Transport System (IURWTS) project to rejuvenate six major canals in Kochi city is being implemented under the leadership of state govt. The plan involves removing silt from canals, constructing walls, implementing sewage system to avoid dumping of faecal waste into these waterbodies, purifying water, improving side roads and installing lights to enhance beauty of the area," mayor M Anilkumar said. "Canals in West Kochi are not included in this project. In this context, the idea of rejuvenating Pandarachira Canal, one of the main canals in West Kochi region, was proposed and it was decided to implement the project in collaboration with international agencies such as ICLEI South Asia, Bechtel and Swiss Re," Anilkumar said. The project includes a treatment plant to process polluted water currently flowing into Pandarachira Canal. Bridges and culverts will be renovated to maintain proper water flow during high and low tides. A permanent system will be established to ensure unobstructed flow of water, free from solid waste and water hyacinth. Sustainable desilting, pollution control and construction of new walls are key components of the project. Construction of a walkway along the canal and development of modern public spaces and playgrounds are also included. This project will aid in the future rejuvenation of other canals, including Pashnithodu in Palluruthy. Detailed DPR preparation activities have commenced. "DPR will also address connecting Pandarachira Canal with water transport routes and its maintenance with community participation. Matter Lab, a sister organization of Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), is preparing the DPR with a budget of Rs 50 lakh. DPR will be completed within four months," mayor said. A meeting chaired by mayor was attended by Monalisa Sen from ICLEI, Tara S Pillai from Bechtel and Jayakumar from Matter Lab. Pandarachira Canal, once a major cargo waterway to old Kochi city, lost its significance with the construction of modern roads and urbanization.
