Bad news Chiefs! Al Ahly could sign Saleng from Pirates

Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng is reportedly getting interest from Egyptian giants Al Ahly, having recently been linked to Kaizer Chiefs.
The 27-year-old winger has not played a match for the Buccaneers since December last year. Whether he remains with Pirates next season remains a big question.
Veteran scouting chief Hany Ramzy has confirmed Egyptian giants Al Ahly were once interested in the Pirated winger.
'There are names I think Al Ahly should sign. A player in South Africa, similar to Percy Tau in his style of play, but faster and with great skills. His name is Saleng; he plays for Orlando Pirates,' Ramzy told Kora Talks Podcast.
'This nomination was made a season and a half ago. We thought he was an excellent player, and Marcel Koller followed him and expressed his admiration, but no decision was made regarding him either.
'The deal was not completed.'
With former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro at Al Ahly, the chances of Saleng joining him are high. The winger has been impressive under the Spaniard and has scored over 20 goals in the three seasons under the Al Ahly coach.
The winger might join Chiefs only if he signs a pre-contract with the Soweto giants or asks for his contract to be terminated. It seems unlikely that Pirates would want to release their top attacker to their archrivals.

Kaizer Chiefs R1 million blunder worst signing in years?

Kaizer Chiefs' bold move to sign Bongani Sam from rivals Orlando Pirates has turned into a financial and footballing misfire. Nearly a year since his arrival, the 27-year-old left-back has yet to feature in a single competitive match for Amakhosi. Sam joined Chiefs ahead of the 2023/2024 season in a deal that raised eyebrows. At the time, the move shocked many fans and analysts alike, considering his limited game time at Pirates and patchy loan spells at Maritzburg United and Moroka Swallows. Despite the risk, the club inked him on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth. Since signing, Sam has not made a single appearance for Chiefs. A combination of injury and non-selection has kept him sidelined throughout the season. In fact, his last competitive minutes date back to December 2023, six months before arriving at Naturena. This prolonged absence places Chiefs in an uncomfortable position. Not only have they gone a full season without any on-field contribution from Sam, but they've also reportedly shelled out over R1 million in salaries and signing-on fees with nothing to show for it. 'Chiefs made a big mistake with Sam, how can you sign someone who never played a full season? The talent is there but the consistency was not,' a source told The South African. Sam's playing history hardly justified the investment. During his stint at Pirates, he completed just seven full matches and appeared sporadically in another 21 fixtures, often falling out of favour and eventually heading out on loan. Yet, Chiefs pushed through with the signing, hoping for a turnaround that has not materialised. Now, with at least two years left on his contract, cutting ties would come at a significant financial cost, another dilemma for a Kaizer Chiefs desperate to rebuild and regain competitiveness. Sam, once expected to challenge for a starting role, hasn't even entered the frame. As the Soweto giants prepare for the upcoming season, one question remains. Will Bongani Sam ever justify the investment, or will he go down as one of the most baffling signings in the club's recent history? Bafana's Broos content despite Tanzania draw

'It was a totally new team, with players who hadn't played together except for the same team (club),' said the Bafana head coach. Hugo Broos was happy with what he saw in Bafana's goallessdraw with Tanzania on Friday. Picture: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix Hugo Broos was satisfied with the performance of his new-look Bafana Bafana side, even though they could only manage at goalless draw at home to Tanzania in an international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. ALSO READ: Tepid Bafana held by Tanzania The Bafana head coach gave several players their senior international debuts in the match, as Bafana defended well, but failed to create much against a well-organised Taifa Stars. Bafana's Broos – 'About eight jerseys' 'After every game we give a jersey to each player getting his first cap,' said Broos. 'I think today we gave out about eight jerseys. It was a totally new team, with players who hadn't played together except for the same team (club). 'So it was not easy, and that is why I said before the game that the result was not important. We wanted to win, and we could have, we had chances. But the performance was more important. And I am happy with what I saw today.' Of the Bafana players who started Friday's match, goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, captain Fawaaz Basadien, Pirates duo Thalente Mbatha and Patrick Maswanganyi and forward Oswin Appollis could be considered regulars in the Bafana squad. 'The defence, without Basadien, all the rest was new,' added Broos. 'Even Ricardo (Goss), he is always with us but it is always Ronwen (Williams) who is playing. In the midfielder (Simphiwe) Selepe was now, up front (Tshepang) Moremi was new, (Ashley) Cupido was new. What can I ask more than the performance we put up tonight? It was very positive for me and I hope to see the same thing on Tuesday and that we win. 'A better feeling' 'It is a better feeling when you win.' 'Orlando Pirates are emptying the recycling bin now'

We love how fans in South Africa react to football news. The latest player news from Orlando Pirates has drawn mixed reactions. The Sea Robbers have released Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako. Meanwhile, the club have proactively strengthened the full-back areas with a deal wrapped up for Baroka's Tshepho Mashiloane. All you need to know about Tshepho Mashiloane It's been long suggested that both full-back positions are arguably the biggest relative weaknesses in the Orlando Pirates squad. Incoming business is expected in those areas, but first, the Sea Robbers are getting rid of players not in their plans. Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako are heading out. One Bucs fan sounds happy that the club are getting rid of surplus players: In their search for a prolific wide man, Chiefs have reportedly reignited their interest in Polokwane and Bafana star Oswin Appollis. The 23-year-old was in action for South Africa in a 0-0 draw against Tanzania. Appollis is also a target for Pirates.
