Bafana's Broos content despite Tanzania draw

Hugo Broos was satisfied with the performance of his new-look Bafana Bafana side, even though they could only manage at goalless draw at home to Tanzania in an international friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Bafana head coach gave several players their senior international debuts in the match, as Bafana defended well, but failed to create much against a well-organised Taifa Stars.
Bafana's Broos – 'About eight jerseys'
'After every game we give a jersey to each player getting his first cap,' said Broos.
'I think today we gave out about eight jerseys. It was a totally new team, with players who hadn't played together except for the same team (club).
'So it was not easy, and that is why I said before the game that the result was not important. We wanted to win, and we could have, we had chances. But the performance was more important. And I am happy with what I saw today.'
Of the Bafana players who started Friday's match, goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, captain Fawaaz Basadien, Pirates duo Thalente Mbatha and Patrick Maswanganyi and forward Oswin Appollis could be considered regulars in the Bafana squad.
'The defence, without Basadien, all the rest was new,' added Broos.
'Even Ricardo (Goss), he is always with us but it is always Ronwen (Williams) who is playing. In the midfielder (Simphiwe) Selepe was now, up front (Tshepang) Moremi was new, (Ashley) Cupido was new. What can I ask more than the performance we put up tonight? It was very positive for me and I hope to see the same thing on Tuesday and that we win.

Bafana will play Mozambique in another friendly at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday, where Broos is expected to give even more players their senior national team debuts.

Bafana B side overcome Zimbabwe to keep hope for semifinals of Cosafa Cup alive
Bafana Bafana 'B' team defeated their neighbours Zimbabwe 2-0 to register their first win of the 2025 Cosafa Cup under way in Bloemfontein. South Africa scored a goal in each half during the Group A's match at Free State Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Orlando Pirates star Kabelo Dlamini scored a penalty five minutes before the halftime break while SuperSport United's young defender Ime Okon found the back of the net through an impressive header on 78 minutes. Bafana needed to win the match to place themselves in a better position to proceed to the next round of the tournament. The Vela Khumalo-coached outfit started their participation this year with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mozambique, who are top of the pool by four points after their second outing ended in a draw with Mauritius. Khumalo's men displayed a good performance and created tons of opportunities, which were either not used or well defended by their opponents. There were excellent performances from players such as Boitumelo Radiopane, Masindi Nemtajela, who is heavily linked with a move to Pirates, Man of the Match Kamogelo Sebelebele, Siphesihle Mkhize and Gape Moralo. Nemtajela won the penalty that saw the hosts score their first goal of the competition this year. The Marumo Gallants forward gave the Zimbabweans defenders a tough time and combined well with Radiopane. Okon's goal came from a well-taken free kick by Moralo. Bafana will hope to give another solid display when they face Mauritius in the last match of the group stages at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein at 3pm on Tuesday. Confirmed: Orlando Pirates to announce new player
Orlando Pirates fans have a new right-back to call their own. Tshepho Mashiloane is coming to Soweto. This will spell new competition for Deano Van Rooyen and Bandile Shandu. As reported in previous weeks, the Sea Robbers signed the 23-year-old Baroka FC star for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League. While the Orlando Pirates have yet to announce the news, Baroka FC's chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele, has confirmed that the deal has been completed.
