Fatal Garfield County crash was 1 of 7 deadly collisions over the weekend

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – Colorado State Patrol investigated seven fatal crashes that occurred over the weekend. One of them happened in Garfield County.
According to CSP, a two-vehicle crash happened on Highway 82 around 8:36 p.m., Saturday.
The driver of a 2002 Toyota Camry lost control while negotiating a left curve and entered the other lanes. A 2025 Camry struck the front passenger side of the 2002 Camry which continued down an embankment. The 2002 Camry driver was dead at the scene.
Three occupants in the 2025 Camry were transported to the hospital. Two of the individuals sustained serious bodily injuries, according to the state patrol.
CSP said troopers responded to seven fatal crashes with eight deaths and four others sustaining serious injuries. The state patrol said the difficult driving conditions in the mountain corridors played a role in the crashes.
'When driving in winter driving conditions, we want folks to take the warnings from law enforcement, department of transportation and the news meteorologists seriously,' Col. Matthew C. Packard, who is the chief of the Colorado State Patrol, said in a new release. 'This weekend has left dozens of families with broken hearts. Winter conditions require drivers to reduce their speed, increase their stopping distances and use extra caution. Quick maneuvers won't work in winter conditions.'
The other crashes occurred in Elbert, Park, Adams (twice) and Archuleta counties, as well as Fort Carson.

Hyundai's Upcoming Sonata Takes Aim At Toyota Camry With Bold Updates

Hyundai's Upcoming Sonata Takes Aim At Toyota Camry With Bold Updates originally appeared on Autoblog. It's been over six years since the eighth-generation Hyundai Sonata was first revealed, and although a recent facelift has kept it fresh, the Korean marque will need an all-new model soon if it is to stay in contention with the newer Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Now, thanks to a report by the Korean Car Blog, we have new information about what to expect from the next Sonata, and there will be much that's new. A new design philosophy, Hyundai's new infotainment operating system, and more efficient powertrains are all on the menu. Kia and Hyundai have consistently been on an apparent mission to push the design envelope, and not just on high-performance or more expensive models. Bold design is a significant part of Hyundai's successful transformation in the United States. The new Sonata is expected to share design cues with the latest Nexo, guided by the brand's Art of Steel design philosophy. This styling direction places an emphasis on strength, flexibility, and retro touches. NY Mammoth envisioned what this could look like, and the result is a Sonata with a strong shoulder line and rectangular-shaped headlights. A pixel-themed lighting signature is expected to add another flourish to the new sedan. The arrival of Hyundai's Pleos OS is expected with the launch of the Sonata, although we can't say what the cabin will look like (the new Nexo's interior is pictured below). The interface, which will include a 16:9 widescreen display, will be inspired by smartphones. Via the Pleos Playground, users will be able to download apps directly to the sedan. Gleo, Hyundai's own AI system, will integrate with support for Level 2.5 autonomous driving. If it all sounds overwhelmingly sci-fi, one interesting rumor is the use of detachable physical buttons. As long as it's not as clunky as removing the radio face, as was the case in the 1980s and 1990s, this could be a clever alternative to an overabundance of touch-based controls in modern cars. Overall, though, it sounds like a more tech-forward interior than the Toyota Camry's. Yes, the Camry has taken a big step up, but it's still user-friendly in a typically Toyota way. The latest Camry marked a huge departure from previous models, since all versions of the Japanese sedan have hybrid power. The Sonata isn't expected to go the same route, which means we can still expect a base 2.5-liter gas engine. A more powerful N Line and an available hybrid should also carry over to the new Sonata. Front-wheel drive should be standard, with an all-wheel-drive system being optional. For the latter, Hyundai's H-Trac AWD system could be implemented. One area of improvement we would like to see is a more refined ride/handling balance, as the Hyundai currently falls short of its Japanese competitors in this area. And, with the Camry's latest advancements in hybridization, we hope to see a smoother transition between gas and electric power in the new Sonata hybrid. The new Sonata should help Hyundai retain its edge over Kia in USA sales. (EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Southbound lanes of Highway 115 in southwestern El Paso County are closed after a minor was killed in a crash on Monday afternoon, June 9. According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), troopers originally responded around 1 p.m. on Monday to a two-car crash near the El Paso/Fremont County line. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the passenger, a minor, was transported by helicopter. The passenger was declared dead at the hospital. CSP said as of 5 p.m. Monday, the southbound lanes remained closed, and there is no estimated time of reopening. 'You missed': New details emerge as teens charged in Burnsville graduation night shooting

'You missed': New details emerge as teens charged in Burnsville graduation night shooting originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Two 18-year-olds from Bloomington and Shakopee are facing drive-by shooting charges in connection to an incident following the Burnsville High School graduation ceremony on Friday, June 6. Abdulahi Jama Ali, of Shakopee, and Abdikani Mukhtar Abdiwahab, of Bloomington, were charged Monday in Dakota County District Court, Ali is charged with two counts of drive-by shooting and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. Abdiwahab is facing two drive-by shooting charges and other counts for aiding an offender. According to the criminal complaint, gunshots rang out west of Burnsville High School around 8:30 p.m., which was approximately 30 minutes after the graduation ceremony concluded. The shots were fired after police on scene had already broken up "several physical altercations" and attempted to disperse two groups who were "flashing gang signs towards each other." Ali and Abdiwahab were arrested after bystanders pointed police in the direction of the black Toyota Camry they were in. Abdiwahab was driving and Ali was in the front passenger seat, according to the complaint. While arresting the duo, officers heard a bystander shout, "Ksoe, you missed. You dumb ass. You missed." The complaint claims that Ali's nickname is "Ksoe." Further investigation revealed, allegedly, that the bystander who mocked "Ksoe" for missing was seen earlier — by witnesses in a vehicle behind the Toyota Camry — approach the Camry and talk with the duo before he "tried to punch the Camry" before the witness "saw the barrel of a gun come out of the front passenger window and open fire." Police found a handgun with an extended magazine under the front passenger seat. They also found one bullet casing on the driver's side floorboard and two more casings on the street by the vehicle. One bullet fragment was found lodged into the headlight of a vehicle parked nearby. Abdiwahab allegedly waived his Miranda rights and claimed he didn't shoot a gun and didn't know anything about a gun being shot. He also said he didn't know how a gun wound up in his car. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension collected DNA samples from the gun, Ali and Abdiwahab for analysis. No one was physically injured in the shooting.
