Who Is In 'The Office' Spinoff Cast? All About 'The Paper', Including How It's Connected to Dunder Mifflin

The Paper is hot off the presses!
In May 2024, NBC announced a spinoff of The Office, but don't settle in for Scranton, Pa., just yet. The new show, The Paper, takes place in the world of The Office, moving the action to a newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.
The Paper is from Greg Daniels — who adapted the original U.K. version of The Office — and Michael Koman, co-creator of Comedy Central's Nathan For You.
"It's about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that's much reduced from its glory days," Daniels previously told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a fruitful premise."
He continued, "There's a tremendous history for local papers. The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody's news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google."
So how is The Paper connected to the classic NBC sitcom? Here's everything to know about the highly anticipated spinoff, including the release date, which Office star is returning to reprise their role and where to watch.
The same camera crew that documented the employee antics at Dunder Mifflin is now focused on the team at The Truth Teller, a dying local newspaper in Toledo, attempting a revival with the help of volunteer reporters.
The Office fans will instantly recognize a familiar face who made their way to Ohio: Oscar Nuñez, who played the beloved Oscar Martinez on the original NBC series. According to Variety, Oscar won't be a central character on the series, but he has been part of the script since the beginning.
'I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,' Nuñez said at NBCUniversal's Upfront in May 2025, per Entertainment Weekly.
'Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio — which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard," he added.
Nuñez is the only Office alum confirmed so far, but don't be surprised to see other returning actors.
Former Office stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey — who host the Office Ladies podcast — revealed they stopped by the set of The Paper for a visit.
"[Co-creator] Greg [Daniels] had invited us," Kinsey said during an appearance on the Today show in April 2025. "We showed up, and not only was Oscar there, but our crew, so many of these wonderful people — cause the crew was our extended family, and we're still really close with them."
"And that was really moving to see," she added.
In addition to Nuñez, The Paper will star Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
Other members of The Paper newsroom include Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman and Tim Key.
During a June 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Steve Carell revealed that before Gleeson accepted the role, he reached out to him for advice.
"He's an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, 'Should I do this? ... Did you enjoy it?' I said, 'Of course,' " Carell recalled.
That same May, the Four Seasons actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "excited" about the spinoff and no plans to return as Michael Scott.
'I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It's just a new thing and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,' Carell said.
The Paper will be released in September 2025, over a decade after The Office ended its nine-season run in May 2013.
'It's been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,' Lisa Katz, the President of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement when the spinoff was announced.
"This new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper," she continued.
A trailer for The Paper has not been shared, but NBC gave a first-look from the series.
The picture features Gleeson, standing on a desk in the newsroom, as he tries to galvanize his team of reporters. Meanwhile, Nuñez, who is an accountant at The Truth Teller, sits at his desk in the background.
Another shot from the spinoff was also posted on social media, featuring the outside of a building, presumably The Paper offices.
The Paper will be available to stream on Peacock, joining both the U.K. and the U.S. versions of The Office, which are already on the platform.

McCutchen ties Clemente for third on Pirates' all-time homers list with 240

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Andrew McCutchen tied Roberto Clemente for third place on the Pittsburgh Pirates' all-time home run list at 240 with a two-run shot off San Diego's Randy Vásquez in the third inning on Sunday. It was the second homer in two games and fifth of the season for the 38-year-old McCutchen, who's in his 17th big league season and 12th with Pittsburgh over two stints. It gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead. Clemente hit 240 homers from 1955-1972. He was 38 when he was killed on Dec. 31, 1972, in the crash of a plane he chartered to deliver emergency supplies for the survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua. He was posthumously elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973. Willie Stargell tops the Pirates' list with 475 homers and Ralph Kiner is next with 301. McCutchen has 324 homers in a career in which he's also played for Philadelphia, Milwaukee, San Francisco and the New York Yankees. ___ AP MLB:

Scottie Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as only repeat winners at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Scottie Scheffler never lost the lead and never gave anyone much of a chance down the stretch Sunday in another relentless performance, closing with a 2-under 70 for a four-shot victory to join Tiger Woods as the only repeat winners of the Memorial. Slowed by hand surgery at the start of the year from a freak accident, Scheffler appears to be in full stride with one major already in the bag and another around the corner at the U.S. Open. 'It's always a hard week,' said Scheffler, who finished at 10-under 278. 'We battled really hard on the weekend. Overall it was a great week.' On one of the tougher PGA Tour tests of the year, Scheffler made one bogey over the final 40 holes at Muirfield Village. 'Well, you did it again,' tournament host Jack Nicklaus told him walking off the green. Ben Griffin tried to make it interesting at the end with a 12-foot eagle on the par-5 15th and a 25-foot birdie putt on the par-3 16th to close within two shots with two to play. Scheffler, however, doesn't make mistakes. Griffin made double bogey on the 17th. Griffin made a 4-foot par on the 18th for a 73 to finish alone in second, worth $2.2 million, more than what he earned when he won at Colonial last week. Sepp Straka (70) finished another shot back. 'You know Scottie's probably going to play a good round of golf. The guy's relentless. He loves competition, and he doesn't like giving up shots,' Straka said. 'But it's one of those courses where it can always happen, so you got to be prepared for it. I felt like I gave myself a lot of chances to kind of make a push.' Scheffler now has won three times in his last four starts — the exception was Colonial, a tie for fourth the week after winning the PGA Championship — and expanded his margin at No. 1 in the world to levels not seen since Woods in his peak years. Woods is a five-time winner at Memorial who won three straight from 1999 through 2001. No one had repeated at Muirfield Village since then until Scheffler. His performances lately look a lot more like Nicklaus the way he wears down the field by rarely getting out of position. Rickie Fowler had his first top 10 of the year at just the right time. He made par on the 18th to tie for seventh, earning him a spot in the British Open. Fowler tied with Brandt Snedeker at 1-under 287, but gets the one Open exemption available based on a higher world ranking — Fowler at No. 124, Snedeker at No. 430. 'That's one I've wanted on the schedule,' said Fowler, who faces a 36-hole qualifier for the U.S. Open on Monday. Both received sponsor exemptions to the Memorial, a signature event on the PGA Tour. For Scheffler, it was his fifth victory in a $20 million signature event in the last two years. This one looked inevitable, but only after a quick development early on the back nine. Scheffler ended 31 holes without a bogey at tough Muirfield Village on the 10th hole, dropping his lead to one shot. Griffin had 4 feet for birdie on the par-5 11th. Scheffler made his 15-foot birdie putt and Griffin missed. Griffin bogeyed the next two holes, and just like that, Scheffler was four shots ahead. That's how it was at the PGA Championship — tight one minute, a blowout the next, and the sweetest walk toward the 18th green with victory secure. This one ended in a handshake with Nicklaus, who had said earlier in the week of Scheffler, 'He plays a lot like I did.' Nicklaus said he was all about fairways and greens, having plenty of chances and making enough of them to post a score. That's the Scheffler way, too, even if it didn't always look that way at the start of the final round. With mud on the golf ball in the first fairway, too much spin on short irons on the next few holes, Scheffler didn't have a birdie putt until the fifth hole. He saved par seven times in the final round, including the final hole. ___ AP golf:

Scottie Scheffler pulls away for 4-stroke win at Memorial Tournament

When Scottie Scheffler holds a 54-hole lead, the result is all but predetermined, not only because of Scheffler's talent, but because of the effect he has on the leaderboard at any golf tournament. The 2025 Memorial Tournament, which marked Scheffler's 16th PGA Tour win on Sunday, was no different. Advertisement With a four-shot victory at Muirfield Village, a signature event on the PGA Tour hosted annually by Jack Nicklaus, Scheffler flashed his dominance once again. A streak of four birdies in his final five holes on Saturday was the warning. A final-round 2-under was the capper. Scheffler defended his 2024 victory, marking the third time he's defended an event (the Players Championship and the WM Phoenix Open being the others). Only two other players have recorded three or more title defenses: Phil Mickelson (5) and Tiger Woods (23), per The Athletic's Justin Ray. Scheffler has once again proven that he is worthy of being in the same conversations and on the same lists as the greatest players in the game. 'The only way you're going to catch him is through your own efforts, and sometimes your own efforts aren't good enough. They might even cause more mistakes,' said Nicklaus, joining CBS' broadcast team early Sunday evening. Back-to-back at Jack's Place 🏆🏆 Scottie Scheffler joins @TigerWoods as the only consecutive winners @MemorialGolf. — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 1, 2025 That assessment provided the perfect transition into the final stretch on Sunday as Ben Griffin, the first-round leader and second-round co-leader, stood on the 14th tee four shots behind Scheffler, his playing partner. Dottie Pepper, walking with the Scheffler group, started to compare the situation to this year's PGA Championship: It felt like the world No. 1 simply had to keep the ball dry for the last four holes at Quail Hollow, and he'd get it done. And that's what he did. Griffin started to look like the rest: Back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13 handed Scheffler his four-shot lead. A steady par on 14, and then it was Griffin's time to pounce. On the par-5 15th, Griffin launched a 7-wood onto the putting surface and holed a putt for eagle. On 16, he buried another birdie. Suddenly, Scheffler's lead was down to two. Advertisement That didn't last for much longer — the field tends to crumble when Scheffler shows up. Griffin launched his drive into the fans on the par-4 17th and walked away from the penultimate hole with a double bogey, right back where he started at four back. The 18th hole at Muirfield is surrounded by a natural amphitheater. On Sunday, it was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with golf fans witnessing Scheffler's continuous greatness. He two-putted for par on the final hole to post a tournament total of 10-under with rounds of 70-70-68-70. 'It's always a hard week this week, and it's challenging to win this tournament,' Scheffler said. 'I battled really hard on the weekend, and Ben made it interesting down the stretch. Overall, it was a great week, and I'm definitely proud to be shaking Mr. Nicklaus' hand at the end of another good week.'
