Who Is In 'The Office' Spinoff Cast? All About 'The Paper', Including How It's Connected to Dunder Mifflin
The Paper is hot off the presses! In May 2024, NBC announced a spinoff of The Office, but don't settle in for Scranton, Pa., just yet. The new show, The Paper, takes place in the world of The Office, moving the action to a newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. The Paper is from Greg Daniels — who adapted the original U.K. version of The Office — and Michael Koman, co-creator of Comedy Central's Nathan For You. "It's about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that's much reduced from its glory days," Daniels previously told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a fruitful premise." He continued, "There's a tremendous history for local papers. The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody's news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google." So how is The Paper connected to the classic NBC sitcom? Here's everything to know about the highly anticipated spinoff, including the release date, which Office star is returning to reprise their role and where to watch. The same camera crew that documented the employee antics at Dunder Mifflin is now focused on the team at The Truth Teller, a dying local newspaper in Toledo, attempting a revival with the help of volunteer reporters. The Office fans will instantly recognize a familiar face who made their way to Ohio: Oscar Nuñez, who played the beloved Oscar Martinez on the original NBC series. According to Variety, Oscar won't be a central character on the series, but he has been part of the script since the beginning. 'I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,' Nuñez said at NBCUniversal's Upfront in May 2025, per Entertainment Weekly. 'Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio — which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard," he added. Nuñez is the only Office alum confirmed so far, but don't be surprised to see other returning actors. Former Office stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey — who host the Office Ladies podcast — revealed they stopped by the set of The Paper for a visit. "[Co-creator] Greg [Daniels] had invited us," Kinsey said during an appearance on the Today show in April 2025. "We showed up, and not only was Oscar there, but our crew, so many of these wonderful people — cause the crew was our extended family, and we're still really close with them." "And that was really moving to see," she added. In addition to Nuñez, The Paper will star Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore. Other members of The Paper newsroom include Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman and Tim Key. During a June 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Steve Carell revealed that before Gleeson accepted the role, he reached out to him for advice. "He's an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, 'Should I do this? ... Did you enjoy it?' I said, 'Of course,' " Carell recalled. That same May, the Four Seasons actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "excited" about the spinoff and no plans to return as Michael Scott. 'I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It's just a new thing and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,' Carell said. The Paper will be released in September 2025, over a decade after The Office ended its nine-season run in May 2013. 'It's been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,' Lisa Katz, the President of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement when the spinoff was announced. "This new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper," she continued. A trailer for The Paper has not been shared, but NBC gave a first-look from the series. The picture features Gleeson, standing on a desk in the newsroom, as he tries to galvanize his team of reporters. Meanwhile, Nuñez, who is an accountant at The Truth Teller, sits at his desk in the background. Another shot from the spinoff was also posted on social media, featuring the outside of a building, presumably The Paper offices. The Paper will be available to stream on Peacock, joining both the U.K. and the U.S. versions of The Office, which are already on the platform. Read the original article on People

A First Look At The Office's Sequel Series, ‘The Paper,' Which Actually Exists
The Office NBC I am not sure how many people actually know this project exists, but there is going to be a follow-up series to the famed The Office, the almost decade-spanning NBC comedy that ended in 2013. That show is called The Paper, and now we have our first look at the series ahead of when it airs on Peacock, NBC's streaming service, as that's the era we occupy now. This is 'the universe of The Office,' which could not be more of a parody of the connected cinematic universe trend in film and TV today if it tried. I'm not 100% sure it's even being ironic. The Paper Peacock The crossover concept is that this is the same camera/documentary crew that followed Dunder-Mifflin around for ten seasons, and at least so far, has one character crossover that we know about, The Office's Oscar Nuñez, with his character Oscar Martinez now apparently an accountant at this new, struggling paper, which is the concept of the show. The paper is called The Truth-Teller, and takes place not in Scranton but Toledo, Ohio. It is in fact from former Office showrunner Greg Daniels. Here's him describing the series: 'It's about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that's much reduced from its glory days. A lot of the story lines are about how this guy, Domhnall Gleeson's character, is trying to restore this paper, and he just doesn't have the budget for hiring reporters, and he has to use all the staff that work there on a volunteer basis to be reporters. They're completely untrained and don't know what they're doing,' Daniels said. 'It's a fruitful premise. There's a tremendous history for local papers. The villain here is the internet and the ability to look at everybody's news for free, and all the ad revenue going to Google.' The boss this time around is played by Domhnall Gleeson, generally not thought of as a comedy actor across roles in Black Mirror, Harry Potter and most recently, the new Star Wars trilogy. I'm curious if he will keep his Irish accent or go full American for this, as he's done in some past projects. Probably the latter. The White Lotus HBO The series also stars Sabrina Impacciatore, whose name you might not know, but I'm certain you'll remember her as the concierge in season 2 of The White Lotus, where she made a significant impression. Again, curious about her accent given the show's location in Ohio. As someone who lives in Ohio, I can safely say there not many Irish or Italian accents around. There is a long list of other actors confirmed to be joining the series but I don't recognize any of them. Though The Office of course created classic characters featuring previously unknown actors. I am more than willing to bet other Office mates besides Oscar will show us cameos here. The idea of a paper trying to compete with free news and Google eating up all ad revenue certainly hits close to home in my business, so even if this sounds like something of a cash-in, I will be checking it out when it releases this September. Follow me on Twitter, Threads, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

The Office follow-up is coming. Check out first photo & release date of The Paper
The Office follow-up did not feel real until now. The Paper is coming to Peacock this September. NBCUniversal released the first image of The Paper at its upfront presentation on Monday. Recommended Videos Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nuñez appeared at the upfront presentation to reveal the first-look photo and the September 2025 release. The Paper's official release date and time will be revealed at a later date. Gleeson plays a new employee, while Impacciatore plays the managing editor. Nuñez will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez from The Office. Oscar now works as an accountant for the paper. Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key round out the ensemble. Greg Daniels, who developed the American version of The Office, co-created The Paper with Michael Koman. The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are executive producers alongside Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. The Scranton documentary crew is heading to Toledo. #ThePaper arrives this September on Peacock. — Peacock (@peacock) May 12, 2025 The Office was a comedic giant for nearly a decade. The six-episode first season premiered to mixed reviews in 2005. However, it shifted tones to a more upbeat workplace comedy for season 2 and garnered more of a positive response. Steve Carell's Michael Scott was much meaner and darker in the first season as he attempted to channel Ricky Gervais' David Brent from the British series. Michael became a more likable and relatable character in season 2, which helped improve the series dramatically. The Office ran for nine seasons, which are now streaming on Peacock.
