Lawyer ‘killed himself' after defending ‘worst paedophile who ever lived'

Metro10-07-2025
The lawyer who defended 'the worst mass paedophile who has ever lived' has died in an apparent suicide, a prosecutor has said.
Maxime Tessier, 34, defended Joel Le Scouarnec, 74, dubbed 'the devil in a white coat' who raped hundreds of patients under the age of 15 between 1989 and 2014.
They are made up of 158 men and 141 women who had an average age of 11 when they were allegedly attacked in hospitals across the country.
Lawyer Maxime has since been found dead, with chief prosecutor Frederic Teillet, from the western French city of Rennes, saying: 'Everything points to suicide.'
Maxime was one of two lawyers who defended the rapist, who is considered one of the most notorious in criminal history.
His associate Catherine Glon said he 'had a very high regard for justice and was therefore very demanding towards himself'.
Le Scouarnec usually attacked his victims, with the youngest being just four, while they were under the effects of anaesthesia.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but many of his victims said he should be jailed for longer.
Thomas Delaby, a barrister representing one of his victims, described Le Scouarnec as an 'atomic bomb of paedophilia'.
He added: 'Your victims will never forgive you.'
He was put on trial this year after police found evidence, including child sized sex dolls chained up in his home and thousands of child abuse images.
Back in 2005, he was handed a suspended four-month prison sentence for possessing child pornography, but managed to secure a job as a surgeon at a public hospital in Quimperle, western France, the following year.
He continued to work in public hospitals until his re-arrest 12 years later on suspicion of raping his six-year-old neighbour.
He abused young patients across 10 hospitals and clinics over the span of 25 years. More Trending
She told her parents that 'the man with a crown of white hair' had exposed himself and sexually touched her through a broken garden fence.
Police searched his home, uncovering a cache of dolls, wigs and 300,000 pictures and 650 paedophilic, zoophilic and scatological videos.
Notebooks where Le Scouarnec detailed his sexual assaults on scores of patients were also found.
In one handwritten note hidden under a mattress, the doctor is alleged to have written: 'I am a paedophile and I always will be.'

Four bodies found floating in famous river as police admit 'there's a lot of questions'

Authorities determined that three of the men were of African descent with the fourth being of North African descent - their bodies have been taken away and will undergo an autopsy Four bodies were found floating in a famous river with police admitting "there's a lot of questions." ‌ A witness alerted authorities after spotting a body floating in the Seine near Choisy-le-Roi, a Paris suburb, on Wednesday, August 13 local news outlets reported. It was later found there were four bodies in the stretch of river. ‌ A police source told French media a body was found submerged before a second body was spotted floating at the edge of the quay. Another two bodies, one stuck in branches and a fourth drifting in the currents, were located. ‌ All bodies that were recovered were found to be men. Three were found fully clothed while another was partially clothed. Three of the men were of African descent and a fourth was of North African descent and are believed to have been in the river for numerous days. Their bodies were later taken in order for autopsies to be carried out. A police source told BFMTV: "We're not used to this kind of incident. It's an act that raises a lot of questions. Was it criminal? Were these people drunk and didn't survive the heatwave? Did they go swimming or drown?" Should no link be established, it would be due to the flow of the river that could explain why they all appeared at the same location. The mayor's chief of staff Bertrand Guillerm said the bodies could have drifted under during a high flow. Choisy police have been tasked with solving the case. It comes after bodies were recovered from the sea at popular beaches in England. A man in his 30s died after he was pulled from a beach in Skegness just days after a woman died at the same resort. Emergency services raced to the beach in Skegness, Lincolnshire, at about 6pm on Tuesday after the HM Coastguard said he had been rescued from the sea. Lincolnshire Police later said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than 100 migrants in one vessel thought to have bumped crossings to 27,799

Authorities intercepted a 10 metre-long craft with 106 people on board, trying to cross the English Channel. A Government spokesperson said it was 'pure chance' that the 'grossly overcrowded' soft-bottomed taxi boat survived for more than 15 hours at sea. Home Office figures show 325 migrants crossed between mainland Europe and Britain by small boat on Wednesday, in the same week that the number of arrivals since Labour won the election hit 50,000. 'We intercepted a 10m soft-bottomed vessel transporting 106 people across the Channel illegally,' the spokesperson said. 'It is a matter of pure chance that this grossly overcrowded taxi boat survived more than 15 hours at sea, and it again shows the complete disregard people smugglers have for whether people live or die. 'We will stop at nothing to dismantle the business models of those smuggling gangs and bring them to justice.' According to the Government, migrants have attempted the journey on similar sized vessels, including during three crossings since last October where between 96 and 98 people were detected on board. But a small boat carrying 112 migrants capsized in the sea in April 2024, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a seven-year-old girl. 'This latest incident also shows the importance of the agreement we have reached with the French authorities to review their maritime enforcement tactics, so that they are able for the first time to intercept boats in shallow waters and prevent taxi boats from parking offshore to collect large numbers of migrants unhindered,' the spokesperson added. (PA Graphics) Authorities have begun detaining migrants under the UK's 'one in, one out' deal with France this month. As part of the agreement, migrants who risk a small boat crossing face being taken to France, and the UK will take in an approved asylum seeker from the continent via a safe route. The Home Office spokesperson said: 'Through international intelligence sharing under our Border Security Command, enhanced enforcement operations in northern France, and tougher legislation in the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, we are strengthening our ability to identify, disrupt and dismantle the gangs.' A total of 51,041 migrants have been detected crossing the Channel since Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer entered No 10 on July 5 last year.

Melania threatens to sue Hunter Biden over Epstein link - but he won't apologise

Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for £740 million ($1 billion) over a claim linking her to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Lawyers representing the first lady sent Joe Biden's son a letter accusing him of unleashing 'false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements' about her. Speaking to Channel 5, Biden alleged that Epstein introduced Melania to now-president Donald Trump – remarks which were widely disseminated on social media and reported by media outlets around the world. He stressed it was 'beyond a doubt' that Trump and the paedophile were 'very close friends', adding: 'They spent an enormous time together. 'According to [Trump's] biographer, Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania. 'That is how…the first lady and the president met.' Biden also lashed out at 'elites' and others in the Democratic Party he says undermined his father before he dropped out of last year's presidential campaign. His other claims he attributed to author Michael Wolff, whom Trump disparaged in June as a 'Third Rate Reporter.' The president has previously accused Wolff of making up stories to sell books. And he has also previously stated he ended his association with Epstein after a fallout in the early 2000s. Alejandro Brito, wrote in a letter to Biden, on behalf of hic client that he caused her to suffer 'overwhelming financial and reputational harm.' Channel 5 have since released a second interview with Biden to 'give him the opportunity to apologise' to Melania and avoid the hefty lawsuit. More Trending With a big smile stretching across his face, he replied: 'F**k that. That won't happen. 'What I said is what I have heard and seen reported and written, primarily from Wolff.' He added: 'I don't think these threats of a lawsuit add up to anything rather than they are designed to distract. 'It is not about who introduced who to who. I don't know how that rises to the level of defamation.' The president and first lady have long said they were introduced by Paolo Zampolli, a modeling agent, at a New York Fashion Week party in 1998. It was there the pair came face-to-face for the first time. At the time, he was dating Celina Midelfart, but he requested Melania's phone number.
