Google Pixel 6a Owners Angry After Update That ‘Killed' Phone

Google's Pixel 6 and 6 Pro isn't affected by the battery problem. Earleir this month, Google began rolling out its battery throttling update for Pixel 6a devices affected by a bug that has caused overheating and, in some cases, fires. Predictably, this has not gone down well with Pixel 6a owners. In a popular thread on the Google Pixel Reddit sub, the top comment summed up the community's frustration. 'It killed my battery, now I have to get a new phone. Yippee.' On another thread (there are a few), another commenter said that 'Google killed my 6A. Never had any issues with it, woke up to it refusing to charge...' If you missed the news, Google began rolling out a mandatory update on July 8th that throttles the battery of the Pixel 6a. This is in response to reports of overheating phones that surfaced earlier this year. A similar problem hit the Pixel 4a, with the update ultimately limiting the phone's battery life to a couple of hours. The new update reduces Pixel 6a battery capacity once it hits 400 charge cycles, or if the device is identified as one affected by the problem. The Search company will replace your battery for free, depending on where you live, give you a discount on a new Google phone or cash compensation. While some users have taken the opportunity to get a newer Pixel phone, some are sceptical. 'I was tempted to just go back to Samsung but decided to give Pixel another shot,' one affected Reddit user said. Others, however, are done with Google phones. 'Went for the $100 cash payment and moved to another phone and will not be looking back to Pixels for a long time.' Another repeated a common sentiment, 'yeah, no more Google for me. Only now I understand how deeply I rely on all Google products.' The issue for Google is that this isn't the first Pixel phone to suffer from battery overheating issues, which has then led to a compensation offer from the company. The Pixel 4a dealt from a similar problem, while some Pixel 7a owners complained about swollen batteries last year. Google's fix for the Pixel 4a also resulted in an update that throttled the phone's battery life. In both cases, a free battery replacement or money towards a new phone was offered. In the case of the Pixel 7a. That's a track record that doesn't inspire much trust. One Pixel 6a owner on Reddit also made a good point about Google (and Samsung's) promise of software support for seven years. It doesn't mean much if a mandatory battery throttling update—that dramatically reduces the phone's functionality—can be rolled out when a serious bug is unearthed. Essentially forcing users to upgrade. Take Advantage Of Google Pixel 6a Trade-In Deals If you're affected and willing to give Google phones another go, there are some money-saving options on the table. Google will pay out $150 store credit for affected Pixel 6a users, or $100 cash. Either could be combined with a trade-in if Google is running a decent deal. The Search company's current prices are not good, offering $75 for the Pixel 6a. But only last month, Google U.K. was paying a huge £384 ($512.46) for the budget phone. That deal has ended, but the Pixel 10 launch will almost certainly come with pre-order discounts and enhanced trade-in prices. Samsung DeX in One UI 8 has a hidden 'Immersive' mode for true full screen

TL;DR Samsung's new DeX in One UI 8 has a hidden 'Immersive' mode that enables a true full screen experience, hiding the app header and taskbar. To enable it, you must first maximize an app, then long-press the same maximize button to reveal a hidden menu with the 'Immersive' option. This unintuitive method initially led users to believe the full screen feature was removed. Samsung made some big changes to DeX in its latest One UI 8 release. The company killed its classic DeX mode in favor of a new experience built on top of Android's native Desktop Mode. The shift will make it easier for Samsung to borrow from and contribute new features to Android's Desktop Mode. However, the new version of DeX is missing some features from the classic experience, and one particularly puzzling omission was what appeared to be the ability to go full screen. It turns out that Samsung DeX in One UI 8 does support full screen mode, but enabling it is not at all intuitive. For some more context, Samsung dropped a lot of features when it remade DeX in One UI 8. When we tried watching a video in One UI 8's new DeX, the app header bar and taskbar always remained visible. In contrast, both bars automatically disappeared when watching videos in One UI 7's classic DeX. Watching a full screen video in classic DeX on One UI 7 Watching a full screen video in the new DeX in One UI 8 This was especially odd because Android 16's Desktop Mode — which DeX in One UI 8 is based on — hides both bars when you watch a video in full screen. Since none of the buttons in the app header offered a way to hide the interface, we assumed there was simply no way to enter a true full screen mode while using the new DeX. Thankfully, a reader pointed us to a comment from Reddit user horgeluem, who discovered the solution: a hidden 'Immersive' mode that hides both the app header bar and the taskbar. Here's how to enable it: First, left-click the maximize button to make the app fill the screen. Next, hold down left-click on the same button until a dropdown menu appears with three options: Immersive, Restore, and Resize. Finally, select 'Immersive' to enter true full screen mode. Why Samsung buried this option behind a long-press menu without any visual cues is a mystery, but we're glad it's there. Hopefully, Samsung makes this option more discoverable in a future update. Interestingly, this Immersive mode option is missing from most apps in Android 16's native Desktop Mode. The only app I could find it in is the Linux Terminal, specifically within its new graphical display mode. While it's unclear why the option isn't more widely available, you thankfully don't need it to watch videos in full screen on stock Android, as that works automatically. Follow

Apple likely to launch foldable iPhone in September 2026, predicts JPMorgan

Apple could be set to release an entirely new iPhone design as part of its lineup in the second half of next year, according to JPMorgan. "With the upgrades to the iPhone 17 series to be released this fall expected to be fairly limited, investor focus has already turned to the 2026 fall launches with Apple expected to launch its first foldable iPhone as part of the iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026, featuring a book-style fold similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series," analyst Samik Chatterjee wrote on Tuesday. The new foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display as well as a 5.5-inch outer display, the analyst said. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, by comparison, has an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch outer screen. Not only that, the foldable iPhone 18 may feature a crease-free inner display, seeing that the industry anticipates Samsung will introduce similar technology with its Galaxy Z Fold 8 in 2026. Chatterjee predicts that the foldable iPhone will cost $1,999 and could create a $65 billion revenue opportunity for Apple, leading to a high-single-digit earnings accretion in the medium term. He also projects that the foldable ‌iPhone‌ will sell low-teens million units in fiscal 2027 and increase to mid-40s by fiscal 2029. Other analysts like TF International Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo have also forecast that the iPhone maker will make a folding iPhone next year . He expects it to have "premium pricing." With Apple's anticipated entrance into the foldable iPhone space, JPMorgan's Chatterjee named electronic connector manufacturer Amphenol and specialty glass company Corning as beneficiaries, saying that their resulting gains would be "primarily driven by high content in foldable phones rather than the volume associated with it." AAPL APH,GLW YTD mountain Apple vs. Amphenol and Corning, year-to-date Both names have seen sizable moves higher in 2025, with Amphenol jumping more than 50% and Corning advancing more than 30% year to date, outpacing the S & P 500's roughly 8% rise in the period. Apple shares, meanwhile, have lagged the broader market in that timeframe, falling more than 15% year to date.
