Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic leaked in full glory, design and other details revealed

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, rumoured to launch at the Galaxy Unpacked in July alongside the company's foldable smartphones, has leaked in all its glory. From the looks of it, one could say — if the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and the Galaxy Watch Ultra had a baby, this is what it would look like. Folks over at SammyGuru, in collaboration with OnLeaks, have brought the first CAD renders of the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic smartwatch, giving us a detailed preview of what to expect. Source: OnLeaks x SammyGuru advertisementAccording to the report, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is said to retain the same button layout as the Watch Ultra model. However, the biggest change comes in the form of the rotating bezel, which was last seen two years ago on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. Apart from this, the squircle-shaped frame does remind us of the Watch Ultra, but since the rotating bezel is making a comeback, we can't call the Watch 8 Classic a direct successor to the the past few years, Samsung seems to have alternated between its Classic and more rugged smartwatch offerings. The third and fourth generations arrived in successive years, followed by the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, which took a more outdoor-focused approach. The sixth generation marked the return of the Classic, only for Samsung to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra as its seventh-generation flagship last year — a clear evolution from the Watch 5 Pro. Now, with the eighth generation, all signs point to the return of the Classic line, setting the stage for the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic to take the Apart from this, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is expected to feature a 1.5-inch display — probably an AMOLED panel, just like the Galaxy Watch models from previous years. The dimensions are said to be approximately 46 x 46.5 x 14.2mm. According to a separate report by SammyGuru, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic was listed with model numbers SM-L500 (Bluetooth) and SM-L505 (LTE), suggesting there would be two variants of the upcoming smartwatch. When it comes to endurance, the Watch 8 Classic is rumoured to feature a 435mAh battery, which is bigger than the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic's 425mAh unit, but much smaller than the 590mAh battery of the Watch Ultra. The rotating bezel could be the likely reason for the smaller battery inside the Watch 8 Classic, as its inclusion will take up extra internal get to know more details about the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic in the coming months, as we approach its launch. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Plans: No Ultra 2 But Classic Returns In 2025?

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic Some key details about the as yet unannounced Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series have leaked out thanks to a recent tester firmware release. The latest Samsung firmware release makes reference to model numbers that tally up with expected future Galaxy Watch 8 variants, as posted by theonecid on X. It looks like we'll be seeing three Bluetooth/Wi-Fi only watches, and three with LTE. At present Samsung's line-up consists of 40mm and 44mm diameter Galaxy Watch 7 wearables, with and without 4G/LTE, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It has LTE as standard and only comes as a 47mm design. While the model numbers don't tell us a whole load of information, they do suggest whatever higher-end watch Samsung releases this year, it may come in both Wi-Fi only and 4G versions. These are the model names: It seems relatively safe to assume the 300-series watches will make up the standard Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 models, while the 500-series ones are the higher-end alternatives. It doesn't look like this is a new Galaxy Watch Ultra, though, as the current model bears the name L705. This does mean we may see a return of the, in some circles, beloved Galaxy Watch Classic range. The current Galaxy Watch Ultra was the first of its line for Samsung. In the previous generation, the wearables line was split into the standard Galaxy Watch 6 and the Watch 6 Classic. It had a somewhat classier design than the base model, but didn't push for additional hardcore features in the way the Watch Ultra does. One element that's not yet clear: was the Galaxy Watch Ultra actually a big success? Samsung has not revealed sales figures, or intimated how well it sold compared to the standard watch. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra has a couple of clear routes for future progress, though. First up, the current watch does not have a depth gauge for drivers, seen in the Apple Watch Ultra, and many fans want to see a return of the rotating crown. This used to be a signature of the Galaxy Watch Classic range. So where is the Watch Ultra? It may simply be this is not a range Samsung updates every year. Apple has already normalized this, by not releasing a new Apple Watch Ultra in 2024. The Galaxy Watch 8 range may also be used as the vehicle for another innovation Samsung talked about in January, non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. Samsung announced its progress in this field in January, considered a major long-term goal for wearables. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Watch 8 family later this year, potentially in July.

Apple's Smartwatch Empire Is Cracking--And Rivals Are Moving In Fast

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is slipping, and the smartwatch market is shifting fast. The tech giant still holds the crown as the top global smartwatch brand, but its market share slid from 25% to 22% in 2024, with shipments down 19% year-over-year. According to Counterpoint Research, the smartwatch market saw its first-ever decline, and Apple was the main culprit. Lackluster upgrades, the absence of a new Apple Watch Ultra 3, and a drawn-out patent dispute that blocked sales of its flagship models all played a role. Meanwhile, competitors didn't just hold steadythey surged ahead, taking advantage of Apple's missteps. Samsung's Galaxy Watch series saw 3% YoY growth, helped by the Watch 7, Watch Ultra, and Watch FE. But the real winners? Chinese brands. Xiaomi's (XIACY) smartwatch shipments skyrocketed 135%, while Huawei grew 35% and now commands a 13% global market share. Apple may have led the smartwatch revolution, but these upstarts are now setting the pace. Huawei, for instance, has already outpaced Apple in sensor technology, offering blood pressure monitoringsomething Apple is still working on. And with China now the biggest single market for smartwatches, this momentum isn't slowing down. Apple's next big swing could be game-changingor too little, too late. The company is reportedly working on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring, a move that could reset the playing field if executed well. But competition is closing in fast. Startups like Novosound are already rolling out next-gen wearable sensors that could leapfrog Apple's tech. With smartwatch shipments shrinking and rivals gaining ground, Apple has a choice: innovate fast or watch its dominance fade. Investors will be watching closely.
