‘Risking Your Life for Selfies Is Foolishness': Man Narrowly Escapes Elephant Attack
A tourist from Kerala narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation after a wild elephant charged at him in Karnataka's Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The terrifying moment was captured on camera and circulated on social media, where it drew shock and criticism from viewers.
The man was attacked when he was standing near the roadside bushes. Videos circulating online show the tusker suddenly running towards him from across the road. The incident unfolded in full view of bystanders and passing vehicles.
Wild Elephant Charges At Tourist
In the first video, shot from a distance, the elephant is seen running from the other side of the road. As it crosses, a white car is also seen passing by, but it stops abruptly to let the tusker pass. The animal then charges straight at the man, who begins to run in panic.
While fleeing, the tourist stumbles and falls on the road. The elephant catches up and is seen pinning him down with its foot as shocked onlookers scream from the roadside. Fortunately, the animal retreated after a few moments, which allowed the man to escape.
Close-Up View From Passing Car
A second video, filmed from inside the same white car, offers a closer look at the frightening encounter. It shows the man running as the elephant follows closely. He trips and falls, and the tusker steps on him briefly.
The video was shared online with the caption: 'Risking your life for just selfies is foolishness. A Kerala tourist miraculously survived after an elephant attacked him in Bandipur Tiger Reserve."

Video Draws Sharp Reactions From Viewers
As the videos spread, many criticised the tourist's actions.
One user commented, 'The thing I hate most about some Indians is when it comes to wildlife. These duffers can't just sit and wait when an elephant is on the street. But they will drive by it."
Another wrote, 'Jyada hero banne ke chakkar me aisa hi hota hai (This is what happens when you try to act like a hero)."
'Play stupid games…win stupid prizes," someone else remarked.
A person said, 'Idiots can't even read the 'No Parking/ No loitering' warnings & there are at least 20 such warnings from Bandipur-Mudumalai-Masinagudi stretch, and these selfie crazy idiots won't learn."
Injuries And Investigation
According to a report in India Today, the man sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. Forest officials stated that efforts are underway to trace his identity.

'Deport Now, Appeal Later': What is United Kingdom's new rule and how will it affect Indians?
New Delhi: The United Kingdom has included India in the list of 15 countries whose citizens can be sent back to their respective countries immediately after committing a crime. That is, now Indian criminals committing crimes in the UK will be deported immediately. Earlier, they used to stay in the UK by appealing against deportation. Now they will be sent to India under the 'deport first, appeal later' rule. What is the 'deport first, appeal later' rule? Under the 'deport first, appeal later' rule, citizens sent back to India from the UK can participate in the hearing of the appeal against deportation through video link. However, people involved in serious crimes like terrorism and murder will have to serve a sentence in a UK jail before deportation. Earlier, criminals could stay in the UK for years by appealing against deportation under human rights laws. Now, after being deported, those Indians are not allowed to return to the UK. After returning to India, the Indian government will decide whether to send them to jail or not. Which countries are included in the list? Earlier, Britain used to deport criminals from only 8 countries without appeal. The list of these countries included Finland, Nigeria, Estonia, Albania, Belize, Mauritius, Tanzania and Kosovo. Now the British government has included the names of Angola, Australia, Botswana, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Latvia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Uganda and Zambia. The UK government is also talking to other countries to join this scheme. How many Indian citizens are locked up in the UK? As of June 30, 2025, there are 320 Indian citizens in the prisons of England and Wales, including 310 men and 10 women. Most foreign prisoners were deported after completing 30 per cent of their sentence in the UK. But on Sunday, 10 August, the UK Justice Ministry announced that the process of deporting foreign criminals will start immediately after sentencing, and not after 30 per cent of the sentence is completed. In the first quarter of 2025, 1,903 people were deported from the UK to India, while last year, 6,069 people were deported.
