Johor man loses RM267,888 in Facebook investment scam
Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the victim was lured by an investment ad on Facebook before contacting a woman named 'Olivia Leong' via WhatsApp. The suspect promised an 80% return on investment and instructed the victim to download an app and deal with a person called 'George'.
The victim only discovered the scam when he attempted to withdraw his funds but was told to invest more. Investigations revealed he made nine transfers between July 4 and 17, totalling RM267,888.
The case is being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' jail, whipping, and a fine. Police urge the public to verify company backgrounds, avoid sharing personal details, and refrain from downloading unverified apps.

Two nabbed for whipping effigy of PM at rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Two people have been arrested after a video of an effigy resembling the Prime Minister was seen being whipped during the 'Turun Anwar' rally. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the two men, aged 21 and 47, were detained yesterday. He added that a remand order for both will be obtained to facilitate investigations. Drones can be used for other purposes aside from photography, but we are concerned it could be used for sabotage,' DCP Mohamed Usuf said.

Cops step up manhunt for suspect in Klang shooting incident

South Klang OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said police received a report from a member of the public regarding the incident at 11.15pm on the same day. He said the motive behind the incident is still under investigation. "Police are actively tracing the suspect involved and the case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960 for the offence of discharging a firearm," he said in a statement Monday (July 28). Members of the public with any information related to the case are urged to contact the South Klang district police headquarters at 03-3376 2222 to assist with the investigation. He said the incident allegedly occurred when the suspect and 17 of his biker friends were fined by the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) enforcement officers for violating the Vehicle Free Zone (ZBK) in the area with their vehicles. He said the MBMB enforcement officers had asked the group of motorcyclists to leave, but they were ignored before they were issued summonses for ignoring council orders. "The group led by the suspect then tore up the summonses and a confrontation broke out between them and another group of bikers. "The victim, who was struck with a helmet and a wheel lock, was later rushed to the Melaka Hospital with minor injuries," he said.
