Major Owen Farrell announcement as 33-year-old could now return to England squad
Owen Farrell is back at Saracens and available for England duty once again if he decides to end his international exile
Owen Farrell has signed for Saracens
Owen Farrell has re-signed for Saracens after leaving Racing 92, the English club have confirmed.
The former England skipper and British Lion returns to the English Premiership giants after just one year in France. Farrell originally signed a two-year contract with the Paris outfit on a bumper £600,000 salary but has been beset by injury problems in the Top 14. The news comes as a huge boost to Saracens as they look to return to the summit of English rugby.

The outside-half's return also means he is available for England selection once again, although it remains to be seen if he will want to return to the international stage after walking away following the 2023 Rugby World Cup for mental health reasons. Players playing outside of England are not eligible for selection.

Farrell said: 'Saracens is my home and the opportunity to come back is one that excites me enormously. Having watched from afar this season, it is clear to see that the club has incredible potential, and I can't wait to get back in the mix for the 25/26 season.'
Director of Rugby Mark McCall added: 'Owen has Saracens in his DNA; his competitive spirit is woven into the fabric of this club, and we are delighted he has chosen to come home.
"He returns to a young group full of potential, players eager to learn, play and push for success. We know he will love being part of where this group, and this club, are headed."

Saracens are thought to have paid a transfer fee of £170,000 for his services.
Farrell is set to return to England
The 33-year-old spent 16 seasons at the club prior to his exit last summer, having joined as a 17-year-old.

Following Farrell's decision to quit England, coach Steve Borthwick said in a statement that everyone in the England set-up was "fully behind Owen's decision".
"Since making his debut, he has been an integral part of the England set-up for over a decade, and the demands on elite athletes are extremely challenging," he said.
"It is with typical courage that Owen has made this decision to open up in this manner.

"Together with all of us at England Rugby, I will do everything I can to ensure that he has the support he requires going forward."
Farrell himself said last year he wants to play rugby for as long as he can but has not yet publicly expressed a desire to return to the international arena.
"I have just tried to get back to enjoying my rugby and loving what I am doing and I am working to do that," he said.

"I guess you sit and watch any massive game and wish you were involved, but I'm happy with the decision at the moment, not to say that won't be up and down.
"It's lots of things it's never one thing why you come to a decision, it's never just a specific one.
"I thought it would be the best thing for me and obviously there's a change happening off the back of it as well."

Max Aarons 'close' to Rangers transfer as Russell Martin swoops for former £20million Man Utd target

Bourenmouth full back Aarons was a one-time target for the likes of Man United and Liverpool Rangers are closing in on the signing of Bournemouth full back Max Aarons - according to a report. New Ibrox boss Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are ramping up Gers transfer drive, with Record Sport revealing that deals already in the offing for Maccabi Tel Aviv forward Dor Turgeman and Leicester City centre-half Conor Coady. ‌ And now according to reports in Italy, they are on the brink of snapping up Cherries defender Aarons on loan. ‌ The 25-year-old joined the Premier League side from Norwich City for £7million back in 2023 after spending the first five years of his professional career with Norwich City. Aarons - who is a former England youth international - spent the second half of last season on loan in La Liga with Valencia but made just three appearances in all competitions. Prior to his move to Spain, the right-back was linked with a £20million switch to Manchester United and had also previously been touted as a potential target for Liverpool back in 2022. Should Aarons head north of the border to Ibrox, then he would provide competition at right back to Rangers skipper James Tavernier, who has just 12 months remaining on his current contract. Tavernier often found himself out of the team under ex Gers boss Philippe Clement last season, with versatile Dujon Sterling frequently deployed as a right back. The Light Blues are also hoping to strengthen in the left back department on the other side of the pitch. ‌ However, they appear to have missed out on reported target Harry Darling. The defender is set to leave Swansea City at the end of his contract on June 30, and was said to be on manager Martin's radar having previously played under him at the EFL Championship club. But reports now state that the 25-year-old is poised to sign a deal with fellow English second tier club Norwich City, where Martin spent eight years as a player between 2010 and 2018. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Gareth Bale in talks to become surprise co-owner of English football club

US investment groups have increasingly used celebrity faces to front their takeovers of English football clubs, with Gareth Bale the latest to be tapped up to full that role Gareth Bale is in talks to front an American takeover of League One side Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims were relegated to the third tier this season following a disastrous reign of Wayne Rooney as manager. Rooney was sacked in January after winning just four games to be replaced by Miron Muslic. But the Bosnian decided to take over the head coach role at side Schalke after Plymouth's relegation was confirmed. ‌ Former Watford manager Tom Cleverley is their third boss of the past 12 months and has been tasked with leading them back to the Championship. But Cleverley himself could have a new boss. ‌ Cleverley was appointed by current Argyle chairman Simon Hallett. But Hallett has been looking for fresh investment in the club for the past year, having become the majority shareholder in 2018. A deal for further investment fell through last month, but the interest of a US-based private equity group is growing. They are now looking to bring in a celebrity face in the form of former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Bale. According to the Daily Telegraph, Bale is being lined up by the group eyeing a takeover of Plymouth. Talks between the club and the group are ongoing, with Bale's involvement an unexpected addition to the story. The Welshman has no historic connection to the Home Park side. But US groups have increasingly looked to partner with famous faces in any deals to buy clubs operating below the Premier League. Bale's former team-mate at Spurs and Madrid, Luka Modric, is involved with Swansea City. NFL legend Tom Brady has invested in Birmingham City, while golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have bought shares in Leeds United. ‌ It is unclear how Bale has become involved in the project. He won three La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues during his time at Madrid, before retiring in 2023 after a short spell with Los Angeles FC. Relegation came as a bitter blow for Argyle, with the club finishing three points from safety. Hallett has led significant off-field investment, with the South Coast side redeveloping their Mayflower Grandstander and funding new academy facilities. Amid the talk over fresh investment, Hallett has pledged to match the level of funding a new group brings in this season. Though he admitted last month that he felt new investment was not forthcoming. ‌ 'We have been in talks with a prospective new investor in our club for over a year – those talks led to an application for approval of that investment being lodged with the EFL in February,' he said at the time. 'Unfortunately, negotiations have taken too long and the key information that both we and the EFL required to complete the deal has not been forthcoming. I no longer believe that news of the new investor is imminent.'

The Jambos have added Claudio Braga to their ranks as they continue to flesh out head coach Derek McInnes' squad. Competitive action begins next month against Dunfermline Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup before clashes with Hamilton, Stirling Albion and Dumbarton, followed by Craig Gordon's testimonial against one of the keeper's former clubs, Sunderland. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Before that, Hearts will be in Spain for a pre season training camp that will include a closed-door friendly against English League Two club Crawley Town. Now East Kilbride manager Mick Kennedy has confirmed that the Lowland League champions will provide opposition for Hearts before the competitive action gets going. Latest Hearts friendly confirmed Kilby won the fifth tier and secured their long-awaited promotion to the SPFL by beating Bonnyrigg Rose in the League Two play-off. The game will take place behind closed doors and final details are being sown up, but EK boss Mick Kennedy is relishing the chance to face Hearts as well as Dunfermline Athletic, managed by ex Hibs boss Neil Lennon. He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: 'Hearts' first team are coming but it will be a behind closed doors game. There are two dates in the diary and we are just waiting to determine which one it will be. It is great to get a game like this. There is enough respect for us now in the leagues in terms of the quality we have at the club. Anytime we have played against a side above us, we have posed a real challenge. "Probably with where Hearts will be in terms of their pre-season at that point, it will be a difficult enough game for them in terms of early preparation, as they build towards more difficult friendlies. It suits both clubs. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Why SPFL boss is delighted to take on Hearts 'With Derek going in there, he will be building his own group and looking to fine tune, but it is something we are all looking forward to. Neil will be looking to try and challenge for in the Championship and get into the Premiership as soon as possible. It will be exciting to bring Neil and his team here. It's a good test for us before the League Cup section gets going." On their Premier Sports Cup group, which includes St Johnstone, Kennedy said earlier this month: 'I look forward to these occasions because it gives us a chance to test ourselves against some big teams. Nothing changes in terms of our style of play, so they are always interesting occasions. I am m looking forward to it.' In the meantime, planning is continuing for the new season at Hearts. On top of the Braga signing, Norwegian right-back Christian Borchgrevink, Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis, Belgian striker Elton Kabangu and Irish midfielder Oisin McEntee have all arrived ahead of pre season starting. Stuart Findlay is also a target, having worked with McInnes while at Kilmarnock.
