Donnarumma ‘disappointed and disheartened' at PSG Super Cup squad omission
Big-money summer arrival Lucas Chevalier has been included and is set to make his PSG debut at Stadio Friuli after Luis Enrique confirmed he wanted a goalkeeper profile that was 'different' to Donnarumma.
Italy captain Donnarumma has since taken to Instagram to criticise the decision and expressed his desire to say goodbye 'in the eyes one more time' to the PSG supporters at Parc des Princes.
'To the special Paris fans, from the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris St Germain,' Donnarumma said.
'Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team's success, I am disappointed and disheartened.
'I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done.
'If that doesn't happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights and of you, who made me feel at home.
'To my team-mates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.
'Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris.'
Luis Enrique explained his decision in Udine, saying: 'These are always difficult decisions to make.
'I can definitely talk about Gigio, because he's one of the best players in his position, without a doubt. He's even better as a person.
'We're looking for a goalkeeping profile that is different to Donnarumma. It's always difficult to make the decision in these kinds of situations.'

Luis Enrique also revealed Tottenham were once an option for him and admitted they have a physical advantage on Wednesday.
The 55-year-old was linked with the vacancy at Spurs after Antonio Conte left in 2023, but Ange Postecoglou was eventually hired and Luis Enrique subsequently took over PSG in a sliding doors moment for both men.
Postecoglou was able to mastermind Europa League success in May and end Tottenham's 17-year trophy drought, whilst Luis Enrique guided PSG to the holy grail of a maiden Champions League title.
The pair will not face each other in Italy after Spurs ruthlessly discarded with Postecoglou following a poor domestic campaign and the appointment of Thomas Frank – alongside the fact they have been in pre-season training since early July, while PSG only returned last Wednesday after their Club World Cup exploits – gives the English outfit a slight edge, according to Luis Enrique.
'Well, I have to say that it is difficult because they changed recently the manager, new manager, some new players, they play a few friendly matches before tomorrow's match and I don't know what kind of game they are going to plan,' Luis Enrique acknowledged.
'It is going to be difficult because they have been training for the last month and we are in our first week, but it is not an excuse.
'We are going to try to compete at our best.'
On Spurs' links, Luis Enrique added: 'Well, there were some options for me in the last six months before I came to Paris and Tottenham was one of them.'

Hamza Igamane a Rennes transfer 'priority' as two Rangers striker deals vetoed amid Turgeman talks
The Moroccan has been the subject of interest from across Europe throughout the summer Stade Rennes have reportedly made Rangers striker Hamza Igamane a signing priority as they prepare for life without Arnaud Kalimuendo. Record Sport understands that Feyenoord are considering shattering their own transfer record by launching a big money move for the striker - while Lille have kept tables on the Morocco international throughout the summer. L'Equipe report that striker Kalimuendo has rejected a move to Leeds United - but the club remain in talks for a £20million sale to either Newcastle United or Brentford. Boss Habib Beye conceded earlier this week: "I have to anticipate certain things. If things change, we have to be able to see other solutions. "For now, Arnaud is a Stade Rennes player, whom I consider 100 per cent committed to this club, but I have to be able to anticipate in case something happens before the Marseille match (on Friday)." While Rangers' boss Russell Martin has stated there has been no bids for Igamane and expects him to ramp up his fitness against Alloa this weekend, Jeunes Footeux report that Rennes are considering an approach for the £15million-rated 22-year-old. But the French side are far from alone in the search for Igamane's signature with Moroccan outlet Le Matin stating that Marseille, Strasbourg, and Lens are also tracking a deal from Ligue 1. Everton, West Ham and Brentford are said to be keen to take the forward to the Premier League, while Borussia Monchengladbach and Udinese are also named as interested suitors. A departure for Igamane would leave Rangers in dire need of a new frontman with Cyriel Dessers facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knock in the Champions League qualifier with Viktoria Plzen. Westerlo striker Matija Frigan, however, looks to be off the table. Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has stated that the striker is set to seal a move to Parma with a medical already pencilled in. The England youth international - who was previously on Rangers' radar back in 2022 - only made the move to St Mary's last summer in a £15million move from Aston Villa but struggled with the club in the Premier League last season. But new boss Will Still has shown his faith in the forward - giving him his first start of the season in the EFL Cup against Northampton Town. On Archer, he said: "He needs to go back to doing what he's good at. "He needs to go back to getting in behind and being in the box because the threat of his pace and movement is going to be important for us. "It's about giving him a bit of freedom and a bit of confidence to go and do that and get into the areas where he can finish actions off. That is what we need him for." Maccabi Tel Aviv star Dor Turgeman has been on the shortlist of targets this summer. over an exit clear with the Scottish Premiership named as his preferred destination - but there has been little movement in recent weeks. But the Light Blues might have to move quickly to break the stalemate. One report that MLS side New England Revolution have "offered" £2.6million - which has been rejected. It is claimed talks remain ongoing between the clubs with the report suggesting there is "some distance" between the valuations - but it is expected that Turgeman will leave the Israeli champions before the window closes. Revolution head coach Caleb Porter declared last week that transfer fees will not scare off his side: 'We don't have much cap, but we do have roster openings, and we have the potential to make moves."

Chelsea make incredible gesture to Diogo Jota's family after his tragic death
Chelsea have made an incredible gesture to Diogo Jota's family after the tragic death of the Liverpool forward and his brother Andre Silva in July. Jota, 28, and his brother, 25, were killed in a car crash in the province of Zamora in Spain last month, leading to tributes from all over the world. Liverpool paid tribute to Jota in their first match back at Anfield since his death in August before a pre-season friendly match against Athletic Bilbao. There was another tribute for Jota ahead of Liverpool's Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday but it was 'spoiled' by a small section of fans, with a moment of silence interrupted and cut short. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. Chelsea have now decided to make a financial donation to Jota's family in an incredible gesture from the west London club. The Blues won the Club World Cup this summer and are using a portion of the players' bonuses. Chelsea earned an estimated £84.4m for winning the tournament in the United States after beating French side Paris Saint-Germain in the final. The Blues allocated £11.4m of their winnings to be split among stars who featured at the Club World Cup – which is around $500k (£368k) per player. A joint decision from Chelsea and the club's players has now been made that an equal payment will be donated to Jota's family. Liverpool head coach Arne Slot paid tribute to Jota in his programme notes ahead of the Reds' friendly against Athletic Bilbao earlier this month. 'It has been a tough time for everyone connected with the club, but especially for Diogo's family, his wife, his children and friends,' Slot wrote. More Trending 'We cannot imagine the pain that they have been going through, and the club will continue to give them all the support they can going forward. 'We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go. 'Diogo's passing has had a big impact on us all, but what has been so important has been the love and care shown from the football world, and in particular of course the Liverpool FC community.' Jota played a total of 182 games for Liverpool from 2020 to 2025, scoring 65 goals and registering 26 assists. Premier League chief gives verdict on playing games abroad after La Liga decision
The Premier League has no desire to follow La Liga and Serie A by taking domestic matches abroad despite the presence of American ownership among English clubs Premier League chief executive Richard Masters insists there are no plans to play a top-flight match abroad, maintaining "it's not a debate around our table", after La Liga announced its intention to take Barcelona's clash with Villarreal in December to Miami. England's competition is the most popular globally but all of the matches are played in the UK and that is not set to change. Italy, alongside Spain, have signalled their plan to take a domestic match abroad and are seeking permission from FIFA and UEFA. It could mean that the Serie A sees AC Milan and Como facing off in Perth, Australia in February. Other one-off matches like the Italian Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup have also been played abroad in recent years. The Premier League is much more driven by tradition as opposed to some of the other major sporting competitions. Staging NFL games outside of America is now common practice and hugely lucrative but that is not currently on the agenda from a football stand point. Masters told the BBC: "I don't think it changes the Premier League's view on this at all, we don't have any plans to play matches abroad. It's not anywhere near my in-tray and it's not a debate around our table." The idea of the Premier League playing an extra round - which became known as the '39th game' - outside England was raised in 2008 but those plans were binned amid huge backlash from fans. Former Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore claimed a decade ago that clubs were keen on the idea, but Masters insists that is not forthcoming despite the amount of American interest in the Premier League. There are 11 US-owned clubs in the top flight, putting them close to the two-thirds majority of 14 that is needed to bring about changes to the Premier League's rules. Masters added: "The first thing to say is it hasn't happened yet. You need a whole bunch of things to happen. The Premier League flirted with this over a decade ago and the reason was to grow the league internationally and we were able to do this through different means - digital means, broadcast partners, concepts like the summer series in the US. The necessity that was driving that concept has dissipated." Last year, Liverpool chairman Tom Werner told the Financial Times he hoped to see Premier League games played in New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Riyadh and Rio de Janeiro. However, Bournemouth's American owner Bill Foley has said he does not support staging league matches abroad. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
