RM300,000 worth of ganja seized by Kedah cops
Kedah police chief CP Adzli Abu Shah said that in the first raid, at Taman Lama Ladang Rakyat Laka Temin, Bukit Kayu Hitam on July 30, they arrested an 18-year-old and seized three black plastic packets containing 55 packages of suspected ganja weighing 57,352.85g in a bush area.
"In the second raid, on July 31, we found two black plastic bags containing 35 packages of ganja weighing 36,414g near the first location. No arrests were made.
"We conducted a third raid at 9pm the same day and arrested a 19-year-old in a car near a petrol station in Changlun.
"The fourth raid was carried out at 5pm on Saturday (Aug 2), where we arrested two more syndicate members, aged 24 and 28, at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex,' he told reporters here on Sunday (Aug 3).
The seized drugs are believed to be enough to supply over 187,000 addicts, he added.
CP Adzli said three of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and had previous drug-related records and all the suspects have been remanded between four and six days to assist in investigations under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is urging all parties to stop any action of uploading or sharing unverified information related to the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police have detected the spread of information and a child's pictures linked to the Zara Qairina case by irresponsible parties on social media. He stated that the shared information is inaccurate and has the potential to confuse the public, besides potentially affecting the ongoing investigation and hindering the process of justice for all involved. "The entire investigation process for the case, including the post-mortem issue, is being conducted according to existing procedures and legal provisions, and all parties are advised to stop any action of uploading or sharing unverified information, including disclosing information related to the case investigation," he said in a statement tonight. Mohd Khalid said the act of disclosing information related to the case can be investigated under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, which involves a prohibition on revealing the identity, address, school name, and pictures of the child involved, as well as Section 203A of the Penal Code for offenses related to the disclosure of information. "The individuals involved can also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of a network facility or network service. Adherence to the law is the basis of national peace and well-being. Any violation will be met with firm action in accordance with existing provisions," he said. Zara Qairina, 13, was confirmed to have died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 17. The student was taken to the hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar at 4 am on July 16. The investigation into the case is currently being finalised by the police after being returned by the Attorney-General's Chambers yesterday.

The body of Halimatun Yusoff was found in the living room of her residence after firefighters forced open a locked door. PETALING JAYA : The decomposing body of an elderly woman was found at her residence in Flat Sri Guchil, Kuala Krai, Kelantan, this afternoon. Kuala Krai fire and rescue station operations commander Khairul Duha Abdul Halim said the body of Halimatun Yusoff, 69, who lived alone, was found at 2.08pm in the living room after firefighters forced open a locked door. 'We received a distress call at 2.04pm from police seeking assistance to open the door to the unit following a complaint of a foul smell. 'After the door was opened, our team found the decomposing body of an elderly woman who had died in the living room,' Bernama reported him as saying today.

Kedah cops bust major ring, seize cannabis worth RM2.4mil

PETALING JAYA : Kedah police crippled a cannabis distribution syndicate with the arrest of five suspects, including a married couple, and the recovery of 66.4kg of the drugs worth an estimated RM2.4 million in an operation last Sunday. Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said the operation initially resulted in the arrest of three men aged between 24 and 26, Bernama reported. 'The arrests, including that of the 26-year-old main suspect, were made at 1.30pm near the Kuala Muda police headquarters. A total of 64.6kg of cannabis flowers packed in five suitcases and stored in a vehicle were seized. 'This led to another raid at 8.30pm at a house in a nearby residential area, where approximately 1.8kg of cannabis flowers were discovered,' he was quoted as saying. Adzli said the group was believed to have been operating since last month. 'Their modus operandi was to use local residents to travel to a neighbouring country to collect the supply and bring it back here using cars. 'The cars used are handed over to the syndicates on the other side, and within two to three hours, the drugs are loaded into hidden compartments in door panels or in the boot before the cars are returned,' he said. Adzli said two women, aged 24 and 25, including the wife of the main suspect, were also arrested to assist in the investigation. All the suspects are Malaysians. He said further investigations revealed that the syndicate members entered the country through Bukit Kayu Hitam and exited through Padang Besar, Perlis. 'Two of the suspects tested positive for heroin and cannabis. All the suspects have been remanded for a week from the date of arrest until Aug 11 to assist in the investigations,' he said.
