Yooz Revolutionizes AP Security and Fraud Detection with the Launch of YoozProtect

Yooz, a leading cloud-based purchase-to-pay (P2P) automation provider, today announced the North American launch of YoozProtect, an advanced fraud prevention and security solution designed to set a new standard in safeguarding accounts payable (AP) operations. Already established and highly rated in EMEA, YoozProtect is now available to businesses in North America, delivering the most powerful combination of AI tools against fraudulent activity, enhanced vendor authentication and secure payment workflows.
The launch comes at a critical time as financial leaders face increasing risks of fraudulent attacks. According to CFO.com, 83% of CFOs have experienced payment fraud attempts in the past year, with 70% expecting these risks to grow. YoozProtect equips finance and AP teams with cutting-edge AI and machine learning tools to proactively detect and stop fraud before payment execution.
'The finance function has long been reactive when it comes to fraud, relying on manual controls that simply don't scale against today's evolving threats,' said Laurent Charpentier, CEO of Yooz. 'The future of fraud prevention isn't about catching fraud after it happens—it's about stopping it before it starts. AI-powered automation enables finance teams to do just that, ensuring every transaction is verified before risk can take hold.'
Key Features of YoozProtect:
Smart Fake Detection: Advanced AI and machine learning forensically analyze metadata, detect anomalies and flag suspicious invoices before they can be processed.
Atypical Amount Detection: Statistical behavior analysis identifies irregular vendor payment patterns, ensuring transactions align with historical benchmarks.
Vendor Authentication and Management: Real-time vendor detail verification, banking data identification, and Master Data enrichment to prevent fraudulent account setups.
User Authentication and Security: Role-based access control, Single Sign On (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and AES-256 encryption ensure only authorized personnel access sensitive financial data.
Process and Audit Assurance: Comprehensive audit trails track every document action, ensuring compliance with financial security frameworks such as COSO, PCI-DSS, and NIST.
Unlike traditional fraud detection solutions that rely on post-incident audits or basic anomaly detection, YoozProtect leverages a unique combination of AI-powered document analysis, vendor behavior tracking and real-time risk assessments to prevent fraudulent transactions before they happen. This proactive approach helps finance teams reduce financial exposure, improve compliance and maintain stronger vendor relationships.
'We talk a lot about fraud as an inevitability, but the reality is that businesses don't have to accept financial losses at the cost of doing business,' Charpentier continued. 'Technology has evolved to outpace bad actors, and organizations that embrace AI-driven fraud prevention will gain a strategic advantage—not just in security, but in operational resilience and financial confidence.'
YoozProtect is now available to all Yooz customers in North America at no additional cost. The solution is fully integrated within the Yooz AP Automation platform, providing a seamless and intuitive fraud prevention experience for AP teams across industries.

Tech is getting a boost from AI ad tools. Some companies are being left behind

Artificial intelligence has been a shot in the arm for digital advertising. Meta and Alphabet both reported sales and earnings that beat Wall Street's expectations, but the strength in digital ad spend was notable. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the earnings call that AI helped imbue "greater efficiency and gains across our ad system," thus contributing to the 22% year-over-year increase of second-quarter sales that hit $47.52 billion. Meta finance chief Susan Li also told analysts during a follow-up earnings call on July 30 that the online ad market appears to have improved since April. In April, Li noted that Asia-based online retailers pulled back on their digital ad spending amid broader macroeconomic uncertainty due to President Donald Trump's tough tariffs and the closing of the de minimis trade loophole. This quarter, Li said there's been a noticeable "improvement" with those Asian-based ecommerce firms, which have increased their digital ad spending on the platform along with small, North American-based advertisers. "We generally expect another quarter of healthy advertising demand," Li said about the advertising pickup. Gil Luria, the head of technology research at D.A. Davidson, said that while there is still broader macroeconomic uncertainty, "today, digital advertising in general, is doing well; It is simply an extension of the fact that the consumer is still strong." "There's optimism that consumer spending will hold up and therefore all the downstream markets will hold up," Luria said. "I think one of the things that its earnings taught us was that you can spend a lot of money on AI when your core business is doing well, and especially when your core business has been already benefiting from the investments that you've made in AI," Jasmine Enberg, a vice president and principal analyst for eMarketer, said about Meta's second quarter. The continued jaw-dropping pace of AI spending also doesn't seem to be slowing any time soon. Alphabet added an extra $10 billion to its 2025 forecast for capital expenditures, now pegged at $85 billion, while Meta raised the low end of its capital expenditures for the year to come in between $66 billion and $72 billion instead of $64 billion and $72 billion. Investors showed no signs of trepidation about Meta and Alphabet's massive AI spend because those companies' overall sales continued to rise. Outside of the tech giants, Reddit reported strong second-quarter sales of $500 million, representing a 78% year-over-year increase that helped lift the company's shares as much as 20%. "They kind of rose back like a phoenix and had some extraordinary results," Luria said about Reddit, which saw its shares plummet over 15% in February after it reported weaker-than-expected user numbers due to a Google search algorithm change. Reddit's blockbuster quarter contrasted with similar-sized peers like Snap and Pinterest, which both reported lukewarm quarterly earnings this week. Snap's second-quarter sales grew only 9% year-over-year and it missed Wall Street's estimates on global average revenue per user, a metric that refers to how much money the company derives from each user. Contributing to the miss was a botched update to Snap's advertising platform that hurt the company's "topline growth," Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said in an investor letter. The Snapchat parent on Wednesday also added Reddit to its list of competitors in its latest 10-Q filing on Wednesday, indicating a potential, burgeoning rivalry. Meanwhile, Pinterest shares sank over 10% on Thursday after it reported second-quarter earnings that missed on earnings per share. Pinterest finance chief Julia Brau Donnelly told analysts during an earnings call that the company is still noticing some tariff-related concerns, "and broader market uncertainty" as it previously indicated in May. Unlike Meta, Donnelly said that "Asia-based e-commerce retailers pulled back spend in the U.S.," underscoring how some advertisers gravitate toward bigger online ad platforms amid any signs of global economic uncertainty. "There's very little room for mistakes or missteps," Engberg said about the quarterly earnings reports from smaller tech firms like Snap and Pinterest. WATCHTech growth rates are remaining robust.

Can Cannabis Stocks Reverse Their Prolonged Downtrend?

When Canada legalized recreational cannabis in 2018, many believed that the United States wouldn't be far behind. Optimism grew further when the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp nationwide, fueling hopes that full federal marijuana reform was within reach. Based on this confidence, investors envisioned a booming North American market, with cannabis stocks poised to become one of the decade's hottest growth stories. Six years later, that early promise has faded. Instead of the boom investors envisioned, cannabis equities have endured one of the most disappointing stretches in modern market history. What Went Wrong? Following the 2018 reforms, Canada-based licensed producers raced to list on U.S. exchanges with a bid to expand their operations globally. When these companies were listed, investors poured billions into them, betting on swift legalization across the nation. The hemp legalization even helped establish that a multi-billion-dollar opportunity awaited marijuana companies in the United States. But those reforms never arrived. While marijuana is legal in many U.S. states, it is still illegal at the federal level. This forces producers to comply with a patchwork of state regulations, while enduring penalizing tax rules such as IRS Section 280E, which prevents cannabis businesses from deducting most operating expenses. Limited access to banking and capital markets has continued to force many operators to borrow debt at high interest rates, further squeezing margins in an increasingly competitive market. Lawmakers remain deeply divided when it comes to marijuana legalization. Recently, attempts were made to 'close the hemp loophole' by adding new restrictions to a House spending bill; they were subsequently removed after pushback from industry supporters. Though the newly appointed DEA Commissioner, Terrance Cole, has signaled a willingness to review marijuana's federal classification, the lack of a clear timeline keeps this sector stuck in limbo. Cannabis Stocks Under Pressure At the time of listing on U.S. stock exchanges, Canada-based pure-play cannabis operators like Tilray Brands TLRY and Canopy Growth Corporation CGC debuted with multi-billion-dollar valuations. Today, those shares are trading at a fraction of that value, weighed down by declining revenues and persistent losses. Even U.S.-based Green Thumb Industries GTBIF — one of the few pure-play cannabis companies still valued north of a billion dollars — faces the same structural challenges, despite posting a full-year profit in 2024. Some industry players have even shifted gears and pivoted to other areas. Tilray expanded its footprint in the craft beer and beverage alcohol segment, while Canopy Growth is focusing on health and wellness brands. Others are streamlining operations to survive until federal reform materializes. The underperformance of Green Thumb, Tilray and Canopy Growth is in line with the broader sector. The AdvisorShares Pure US Cannabis ETF, widely seen as the benchmark for U.S. marijuana equities, has plunged 86% over the past five years, highlighting the prolonged and severe downturn in the industry. What Can Turn It Around? For cannabis stocks, the clearest catalyst remains U.S. federal reform. Descheduling or rescheduling marijuana could remove the tax burdens and improve banking access. This will likely attract the attention of institutional investors and open the U.S. stock exchange listings to more domestic operators. International markets like Europe and Australia are opening up, with early movers reporting record growth. These expanding opportunities, coupled with any shift in U.S. policy, could finally set the stage for a long-awaited rebound. Our Take Investors should exercise caution and closely monitor how the legislation evolves in the coming weeks. The outcome of this proposal won't just affect hemp-based revenues — it could reshape the broader trajectory of cannabis reform and legalization efforts across the United States. For those still interested in cannabis exposure but wary of the volatility offered by pure-play cannabis stocks, it may be worth looking into unconventional names like Harmony Biosciences HRMY and Corbus Pharmaceuticals CRBP, which are tapping into the cannabis space to develop novel cannabinoid (CBD) medicines for different indications. While HRMY is developing a pharmaceutically manufactured synthetic CBD gel for rare neuropsychiatric conditions, CRBP is developing its CBD candidate to treat obesity.
