Mark Zuckerberg is writing to top AI talent, offering ₹860 crore pay packages: report

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has spent the last few months personally reaching out to the smartest AI minds and offering them as much as $100 million or ₹ 860 crore, in an attempt to catch up in the artificial intelligence race, a report by the Wall Street Journal said. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is personally reaching out to hundreds of researchers, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.(AFP) The tech leader is personally reaching out to hundreds of researchers, scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to convince them to join his new Superintelligence lab. Zuckerberg is willing to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars to onboard these people, making them some of the most expensive hires in the industry. Apart from offering $100 million packages to some people, he has also spent $14 billion for a stake in AI startup Scale and its CEO Alexandr Wang, who is slated to run his new AI team. The 28-year-old is now one of the most lucrative hires in history of the tech industry. The report claimed that Zuckerberg has also connected with Aravind Srinivas, a co-founder of Indian origin, and offered to buy Perplexity, an AI search startup. The Meta CEO has also reached out to OpenAI employees, including co-founder Ilya Sutskever, but Sam Altman claims that none of his best people have decided to go with him. Zuckerberg's hands on approach The messages directly from Zuckerberg have surprised people, some of whom did not believe it was really the Meta CEO reaching out to them and ended up not responding to the emails they considered hoaxes. Those who have turned him down have claimed his vague concept of a "superintelligence" achieving a team of 50 lacks a specific enough execution plan. However, Zuckerberg has taken a hands-on approach to recruiting top AI researchers, believing it's where he can have the greatest impact at Meta. After convincing candidates that the outreach is genuinely from him, he often hosts them at his homes in Palo Alto or Lake Tahoe. He stays involved throughout the hiring process, even planning where they'll sit.

Dubai's RTA aims to harness quantum tech for traffic forecasting and smarter route design

The RTA held a specialized workshop on quantum communication in collaboration with Cisco, bringing together experts and engineers to explore its applications in smart infrastructure/ Image: Dubai RTA Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is taking a bold step into the future by actively exploring the use of quantum technologies to address key transport challenges. This pioneering move focuses on leveraging quantum communication, computing, and cybersecurity to predict traffic congestion, guide autonomous vehicles, and optimize public transport systems. By doing so, the RTA aims to strengthen Dubai's smart city ambitions and build a more secure, efficient, and sustainable transportation infrastructure. Quantum Tech : A Leap Towards Smarter, Future-Ready Mobility Dubai's RTA is among the first government entities in the region to investigate how next-generation quantum technologies can transform the transport sector. This initiative aligns perfectly with Dubai's broader vision of future readiness and smart city transformation. The authority is keen to harness the unique capabilities of quantum systems, which offer unparalleled speed, data security, and analytical power, to enhance the city's mobility landscape. Potential applications of quantum computing within the RTA cover several critical areas, such as analysing transport and traffic flow patterns, predicting congestion hotspots, guiding autonomous vehicles more effectively, and optimising route planning and scheduling for public transportation networks. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Enhancing Smart Mobility and Digital Security The RTA's quantum initiative is not just about improving traffic flow; it also aims to bolster digital security and accelerate the city's shift toward sustainable, data-driven infrastructure. The authority targets key sectors such as transportation, mobility systems, and smart infrastructure, striving to: Enhance the performance of smart mobility systems. Strengthen digital protection and cybersecurity. Advance intelligent system performance. Build a resilient, sustainable digital ecosystem. This comprehensive approach reflects Dubai's commitment to staying at the forefront of technological innovation while ensuring public safety and operational efficiency. Collaborative Expertise: Workshop on Quantum Communication To deepen understanding and accelerate implementation, the RTA recently organised a specialised scientific workshop titled 'Quantum Communication and Its Applications in Smart Infrastructure'. Conducted in partnership with global technology leader Cisco, the workshop brought together experts in quantum communication alongside representatives from RTA's technical and engineering teams. According to the workshop report, participants explored foundational principles of quantum communication, examining key research developments and practical applications of this emerging technology. Core topics included quantum mechanics, computing, networks, and cybersecurity, all critical to building the future smart transport systems Dubai envisions. Through strategic collaboration in quantum technologies, the RTA is advancing a secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, positioning Dubai at the forefront of smart transportation innovation. Unlocking Potential: Quantum Communication, Computing, and Cybersecurity At the heart of the RTA's efforts are three quantum technologies: Quantum Communication: This next-generation data transmission system uses photons (light particles) to guarantee information confidentiality. One of its standout features is the ability to detect any unauthorised access or suspicious activity, making it a powerful tool for securing operational data. The RTA sees strong potential for integrating quantum communication across various departments to protect sensitive information and maintain digital trust. Quantum Computing: Quantum computers can process enormous datasets and analyse complex transport scenarios at unprecedented speeds. Potential applications within the RTA include predicting traffic congestion, analysing flow patterns, guiding autonomous vehicles in real time, and optimizing route planning and scheduling for public transport. This computing power promises smarter, more adaptive mobility solutions tailored to Dubai's growing urban landscape. Quantum Cybersecurity: Employing advanced, intrusion-resistant algorithms, quantum cybersecurity solutions are designed to combat emerging and future cyber threats. For the RTA, these technologies will help safeguard operational digital platforms, secure smart infrastructure, protect internal networks, and prevent cyberattacks, ensuring the city's transport ecosystem remains robust and resilient Through strategic collaboration in quantum technologies, the RTA is advancing a secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, positioning Dubai at the forefront of smart transportation innovation.

Google launches Advanced AI Search in India through Labs

Google added an AI mode feature to India on Tuesday as an experiment in Labs in English. This feature will provide more advanced reasoning and multimodality, as well as the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web. "Using a custom version of Gemini 2.5 lets you ask longer, more complex or nuanced questions that would have previously required multiple searches," Google said. Early tester of this AI mode lets you ask much longer queries, two to three times the length of traditional searches. This would be helpful for exploratory questions and for more complicated tasks like comparing products, planning a trip, or understanding complex how-tos. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Da Kao: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo This AI mode feature is multimodal, which means that one can speak their question or even snap a photo to raise a query. Google believes this launch is part of its long-term vision to make finding and accessing information even more effortless in Search. It further adds that this would help people to turn to Google Search to tackle increasingly complex and nuanced questions. Live Events " AI Overviews , now used by over 1.5 billion users monthly, is a testament to this evolution. In our biggest markets like the U.S. and India, it's already driving a more than 10% increase in usage for the types of queries where they appear," Google said. To access the feature, one must sign up for Labs and try out the AI Mode in Google Search. "We aim to show an AI-powered response as much as possible, but in cases where we don't have high confidence, you will see a set of web search results," Google added.
