U.S. Open leader J.J. Spaun is not betting favorite after 18 holes. Instead it's Jon Rahm

U.S. Open leader J.J. Spaun is not betting favorite after 18 holes. Instead it's Jon Rahm The 125th U.S. Open has 18 holes in the books, with many of the first rounds stretching well past five hours on the Oakmonster, Oakmont Country Club. J.J. Spaun leads after his bogey-free 4-under 66 on Thursday. Thriston Lawrence is a shot back at 3 under and there's a three-way tie for third at 2 under among a pair of Koreans, Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im, as well as two-time U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka. You may be inclined to believe that Spaun is the betting favorite after one round, but that's not how BetMGM has things stacked up. Scottie Scheffler opened the week as the runaway betting favorite at +275 but he's slid into the second spot at +650, now that he's seven shots off the lead. Jon Rahm, who opened with a 1-under 69, has moved into the top spot as the betting favorite after 18 holes. The 2021 U.S. Open champ will start his Friday round five shots off the lead. Betting favorites at 2025 U.S. Open after the first round Jon Rahm, 1 under, +550 Scottie Scheffler, 3 over, +650 Brooks Koepka, 2 under, +1100 J.J. Spaun, 4 under, +1200 Collin Morikawa, even, +1400 Bryson DeChambeau, 3 over, +1800 Si Woo Kim, 2 under +2000 Sungjae Im, 2 under +2000 Ben Griffin, 1 under +2500 Jordan Spieth, even +2800 We see you, those of you taking a long, hard look at Spieth's name right there. And if you were curious what the odds are on the guy in solo second at 3 under after one round, how does +5000 sound? Odds at BetMGM as of 9:20 p.m. ET on Thursday. NASCAR adjusts Mexico schedule after planes carrying team members grounded

MEXICO CITY — NASCAR had to change this weekend's schedule at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez after two planes carrying Cup and Xfinity team members were grounded in Charlotte, delaying the arrival of some drivers and team members. Xfinity practice scheduled for Friday has been moved to Saturday morning. Cup practice has been moved back Friday afternoon. Because of changes Saturday, Cup qualifying has been moved back that day. Sunday's Cup race has not been changed. It is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Prime. An apparent mechanical problem caused an issue with one of the planes carrying NASCAR team members on takeoff Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina. A second plane carrying team members was found to have an issue. Xfinity driver Ryan Ellis stated on social media that the 'plane attempted takeoff, plane made a small boom, we are headed back.' Xfinity driver Austin Green stated on social media that 'the engine blew up going down the runway to Mexico City.' Some members of Haas Factory Team headed to Atlanta and were going to fly commercial to Mexico. Green posted on social media that he was flying commercial out of Raleigh, North Carolina Here is the updated schedule for Friday and Saturday FRIDAY — No Xfinity practice — The two Cup practices are moved back to 4:05 p.m. ET (50-minute session) and 5:30 p.m. ET (25 minutes) — The NASCAR Mexico Series race has been moved up to 1:30 p.m. ET. SATURDAY — The Xfinity Series will have a 50-minute practice session starting at 11:05 a.m. ET. — Xfinity qualifying will be held at 12:10 p.m. ET. — Cup qualifying moves to 2:05 p.m. ET — The Xfinity race remains at 4:30 p.m. ET — The NASCAR Mexico Series race moves to 7 p.m. ET

Angels to call-up top infield prospect Christian Moore for MLB debut: Source

The Los Angeles Angels are calling up their top infield prospect, second baseman Christian Moore, a league source told The Athletic. Moore was the No. 8 pick in last year's MLB Draft out of the University of Tennessee and was ranked as the Angels' No. 2 prospect by The Athletic's Keith Law. He'll be with the Angels as they travel to Baltimore to begin a seven-game road trip on Friday. Advertisement The call-up, while quick, is actually much later than expected for Moore. He was set to make his debut late last season, but a September knee injury sidelined him and delayed his arrival. After struggling in spring training, Moore went to Double-A Rocket City, where he did not hit well, posting a .665 OPS in 146 plate appearances. Still, he was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake, where his offense took off. Moore hit .350 with four homers and 18 RBI in 92 plate appearances in Salt Lake, making the timing of his call-up seemingly imminent in recent days. He'll provide a boost to an Angels team that's gone 16-9 over its last 25 games, and enters Friday just four games back of first place in the American League West. The Angels have needed help on the infield amid copious struggles for Luis Rengifo, who has gone 74 consecutive plate appearances without an extra-base hit. Kevin Newman has also performed poorly on offense this season. In recent years, the Angels have called up their top prospects quicker than any other organization. Pitcher Chase Silseth was the first player from the 2021 MLB Draft to debut in the majors, while shortstop Zach Neto was the first player from the 2022 draft to get the call-up. First baseman Nolan Schanuel played his first game with the Angels just a few weeks after being selected in 2023. The front office has hoped that Moore will complement Schanuel and Neto as their infield core for many years. Neto's had an excellent start to the season, posting an .820 OPS with 10 home runs and 11 stolen bases. Schanuel's offense has picked up over the last month, and he has a .768 OPS on the season.
