Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden hints at return to ITV soap
His character left the village after he found out his son Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) was having a secret romance with his ex-girlfriend Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins).
It was reported at the time that Wolfenden's exit was due to him 'not getting any gritty storylines' and that his next career move would be in theatre, as he went on to star as Buddy in Elf The Musical that Christmas.

But now, the 45-year-old has hinted at a return to the soap following the show's dramatic storylines in recent weeks.
Matthew said that a possible storyline would be David dealing with the aftermath of the death of his former partner Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), who died following the tragic limo crash in February.
Matthew told Inside Soap magazine: "I would definitely go back to 'Emmerdale'.
"The big pull would have been to revisit the relationship again with Leyla."

DANNY DYER AND EMILY ATACK TO FRONT REALITY QUIZ SHOW NOBODY'S FOOL FOR ITV1, STV, ITVX AND STV PLAYER
2026 will see ITV1 and ITVX launch a brand new strategic reality quiz as Emily Atack and Danny Dyer host a compelling new game show called Nobody's Fool. A co-production between ITV Studios label Lifted Entertainment and U.S.-based prodco Nobody's Hero, Nobody's Fool is a unique reality event packed full of drama and deception where the fate of the contestants isn't decided by how smart they are, but how smart their fellow contestants think they are. Ten contestants from across the UK will be selected to stay in a unique and mischievous 'Smart House', taking on a reality contest like no other. Rivals favourites Danny and Emily will preside over the action as the contestants must compete in challenges to convince others that they are more intelligent than they may actually be. They'll also take part in daily individual quizzes that will test different areas of intelligence in order to build a group prize pot. In a surprising twist however, only the contestants themselves will know how well they have done - what information they choose to share with their competitors is down to them. Across the series, the players must determine who is the weakest amongst them and eliminate them. As each of the contestants sets out to prove their worth and value to the rest of the group, can the players suss out who is a genuine asset and who is simply faking in a bid to stay in the game? The show aims to exploit preconceived notions about intelligence, playing on stereotypes and snap judgments to create a cast of characters who will keep viewers guessing. Danny Dyer said "this is a blinder of a game show and unlike anything I've seen before. Emily and I had a brilliant time making it and much like the audience at home will be, we were kept guessing right until the very end." Emily Atack said 'It's so exciting to be part of something this new and fresh. The chance to work with Danny again was a no brainer for me. We had such a laugh. Can't wait for everyone to watch, it's an absolute must see.' Sue Murphy, Director of Factual Entertainment at ITV and Kate Teckman, Head of Development and Commissioning Editor at ITV said 'Nobody's Fool is an innovative reality/quiz crossover show that puts preconceptions, stereotypes and judgements to the test. Danny and Emily are the perfect pairing to host this game of surprise and prejudice, that will no doubt have audiences on the edge of their seats.' Richard Cowles, MD and Tom Gould, Director of Entertainment and Formats, Lifted Entertainment said 'Nobody's Fool takes a simple premise - How do you really determine how smart someone is? Trust your preconceptions and judgement or what they tell you? - and turns that into a high stakes reality game show with up to £100k up for grabs. There is drama at every turn but with Danny and Emily on hosting duties, the fun and laughter is also never far away.' Nobody's Hero co-presidents and format creators Christopher Potts and Jonty Nash said 'We've spent years trying to figure out which one of us is the least smart, so turning that daily argument into a big new format seemed like a good idea." Nobody's Fool has been commissioned by Sue Murphy and Kate Teckman. It is a co-production between Lifted Entertainment and Nobody's Hero, which has an overall deal with ITV America. The Executive Producer is Mark Saben and Series Editor is Benjamin Cook. The brand new series will be internationally distributed by ITV Studios, and will air on ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player next year (2026).

EastEnders confirms tragic update on legend in iPlayer release ahead of death
This article contains spoilers for tonight's EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. Tonight's EastEnders offered an update on a show legend, and it wasn't good news. Viewers have followed Nigel Bates' (Paul Bradley) dementia journey for several months now, since his return to Walford last winter. When Nigel arrived in Albert Square, he reconnected with old friend Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), but it took him a while to work up the courage to tell him why he was really back in London. Eventually, Nigel's young-onset dementia diagnosis was revealed, and he confessed that he had walked out on wife Julie Bates (Karen Henthorn) to save her from having to care for him as his condition deteriorated. However, in recent scenes, Nigel and Julie reconnected and, despite their differences, Phil allowed her to move into the house to prevent Nigel from having to choose between them. It's safe to say that Phil and Julie have yet to overcome said differences, and tonight's episode saw them take very different approaches to Nigel's illness. After a disagreement over Julie's chickens, the trio headed to the doctor's surgery for Nigel's assessment, where it was revealed that things were worse than they thought. Though the doctor commended his physical health, she explained that his short-term memory had rapidly deteriorated. However, it was clear that Julie was in denial, as she later insisted to Nigel that the doctor must have made a mistake and that everything would be fine. After Julie and Phil bickered once more, this time over what was for dinner, Nigel pulled Phil aside for a chat, where he admitted that he didn't want their living situation to make things difficult. Phil assured him that he would make it work, because even though he doesn't like Julie, he cares about Nigel and wants the best for him. He admitted that he didn't think Julie was good for Nigel, pointing out how she didn't seem to be taking things seriously and was acting like he didn't have a serious illness. When Julie overheard this, she was furious and demanded that Phil stop reminding Nigel about 'how bad his life is going to be'. However, she was taken aback when Phil revealed that Nigel already knew and that he had come to Walford intending to take his own life. How will Julie react to this devastating development, and will she and Phil be able to put their differences aside for Nigel's sake? Speaking about their complicated relationship, actress Karen Henthorn previously said: 'Phil is a very stubborn man, so he'll be a hard nut for Julie to crack. He's not the sort of man who'll sit down with her for a heart-to-heart and be open and honest. 'For now, Julie is stuck in the middle of Nigel and Phil, and Nigel is stuck in the middle of Phil and Julie!' More Trending She also confirmed that Julie is in it for the long haul, and won't let Phil drive her away. 'Even with the Phil situation, Julie knows that as long as she's with Nigel and he knows how much she loves him, that's what matters,' she explained. View More » 'They are facing a hard road ahead, but they've got each other now. Julie loves Nigel more than anyone else, and she'll go above and beyond to help him. Phil can be as difficult as he wants to Julie, she's not going anywhere.' Box 14 showed a character fast asleep and travelling in a striped car, with an alarm clock on the front. Sue guessed "speeding" before opting to pass to box 13. This showed two cardinals standing outside a building with an arrow pointing towards one of them, and Sue suggested it could represent "right bishop" or "right priest" and "right cook." Would you have had any ideas? The star then ran out of time, but scooped £10K for her efforts, to add to the £6,900 she won for charity earlier in the show. Stephen remarked on her performance and said: "£10k you were going for it there!" to which she replied: "I got really stymied on 13 and 14, it would be interesting to see what they are." Number 13 was revealed as an arch bishop while 14 represented the phrase fast asleep. Sue quipped: "Oh thats good - you fiends!" Recently, an EastEnders legend was also left stumped by a Celebrity Catchphrase riddle. Celebrity Catchphrase leaves EastEnders legend stumped by tricky riddles - but could you have solved them? Yet The Chase star Jenny Ryan showed off her game show prowess as she won her episode in record time. SHOW AXE Meanwhile, Sue's own Channel 4 game show was quietly axed after just one season on air. Double The Money has seemingly been given the boot following its airing last year. The show saw 13 pairs of Brits using their entrepreneurial spirit to try to double a certain amount of money in a set time frame. Stephen Mulhern's career so far The presenter is a mainstay on various ITV shows, but how did he become one of Britain's most well-known faces? Stephen first gained an interest in magic and tricks from his father who taught him as a kid. After performing at Butlins, he became the youngest member of the Magic Circle and even made an appearance on Blue Peter in a piece about Harry Houdini. His career started in Children's TV when he presenter the show Finger Tips in 2001. After four years, he launched Tricky TV on CITV in 2005, which he presented until 2010. During this time, he was handpicked by bosses to front the ITV2 spin-off for Britain's Got Talent. He presented Britain's Got More Talent until the cancelation of the companion in 2019. But it's not all bad news for Stephen who is known for his duties on a number of quiz shows. In for a Penny, a format originally launched on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway was launched the same year. Before, he was chosen by bosses to host Catchphrase in 2013 and has been fronting the show ever since. Other huge shows he presented for ITV included Big Star's Little Star, Rolling In It and the reboot of Deal Or No Deal. He also made regular appearances on This Morning in 'The Hub' segment between 2011 and 2014. After the Philip Schofield scandal rocked ITV, he was chosen to reunite with his former CITV co-star Holly Willoughby as the host of Dancing on Ice. If they were unable to do so, they faced a brutal elimination round which saw them axed from the game. The contest continued week by week, with the amount of money increasing as time went on. Eventually, those that made the final had to convert £10,000 into £20,000 in the space of a month. Whichever couple managed to convert the most won the show as well as receiving an additional £20,000 on top of their earnings to be crowned champions. However, in a blow to the programme's fans, it is understood that Channel 4 bosses have opted not to bring the show back for another go-around. Plans for a second series have been abandoned and the show has been shelved, according to TVZone. Hosting the game show marked a change in direction for Sue after presenting a slew of travel programmes throughout 2024. 5 A religious themed brain teaser on box 13 also caused issues Credit: ITV
