Denis Bouanga scores, LAFC ties season-high with 22 shots in 3-0 win over Rapids
LAFC, which had 70% possession and tied their season high with 22 shots, is 7-0-0 at home against the Rapids all time in the MLS regular season with a 20-2 goal differential.
Bounga's PK gave LAFC a 1-0 lead. The 30-year-old forward joined Carlos Vela (78) as the only players in club history to reach at least 50 career regular season goals.
LAFC (8-5-5) had a nine-game unbeaten streak snapped last time out with a 1-0 loss to Vancouver.
Javairô Dilrosun's first-touch shot, off a feed from Ryan Hollingshead, was parried by goalkeeper Nico Hansen but Nate Ordaz was there to tap in the rebound from point-blank range and make it 2-0 in the 48th minute.
Dilrosun, who was acquired June 11 on loan from LIGA MX powerhouse Club América through July 24 with a purchase option scored his first career goal in MLS to give LAFC a 3-0 lead in the 59th.
Jackson Travis was shown a straight red card in the sixth minute after he extended his elbow into the face of LAFC fullback Sergi Palencia and the Rapids played a man down the rest of the way. The last time the clubs met, Palencia was accused , and cleared, of discriminatory action toward Rapids defender Chidozie Awaziem.
Colorado (7-10-5) has one win in its last seven games.

Former Olympic champion Nina Derwael retires from gymnastics
BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgian gymnast Nina Derwael, a former Olympic champion on the uneven bars, is retiring from the sport, her national federation said on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Derwael won the gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and has decided to call it quits after capturing two more titles at the European Championships in June. 'Winning double gold at the European Championships a month and a half ago was the last highlight of her long and extremely successful gymnastics career, and the perfect time for her to retire,' the federation said. Derwael won multiple medals at major championships. She was crowned world champion on the uneven bars in 2018 and 2019. 'I have achieved everything I wanted to. I proved what I was capable of,' she said, adding that she no longer wants to put her body under extreme strain. 'Recently, I have increasingly found myself asking: 'Hasn't it been enough? Sabres avoid arbitration with Bowen Byram by signing him to a 2-year, $12.5M contract
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Sabres avoided arbitration with Bowen Byram late Monday night by re-signing the restricted free agent defenseman to a two-year contract worth $12.5 million. Byram will count $6.25 million against the salary cap through the 2026-27 NHL season. He was considered a candidate for a trade or an offer sheet from another team before the Sabres elected salary arbitration with him earlier this month. The 24-year-old is coming off setting career highs with 31 assists, 38 points and 116 blocked shots while playing all 82 games in his first full season with Buffalo. The team acquired him from Colorado in exchange for center Casey Mittelstadt at the 2024 trade deadline. Byram had nine points on the Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup run.
