Andor Breakout Star Reveals The Action Role She Wants After Playing Kleya, And I Really Hope Hollywood Is Listening
With Andor Season 2 now complete amid the 2025 TV schedule, the Rogue One spinoff has now definitively reached its conclusion. There's a lot to love about the science fiction show (which is streamable with a Disney+ subscription), from its impeccable writing and awesome production values. Of course, the ensemble cast is also pitch-perfect, and relative newcomer Elizabeth Dulau is one of its brightest spots. Now, with the series done, Dulau just revealed a major role she'd love to play at some point – and I'm so here for her taking it on!
The up-and-coming British actress played the role of Kleya Marki during both seasons of Andor. Introduced as the assistant of Luthen Rael and a Rebel Alliance communications operator, Kleya's role expanded during Season 2 as she began to perform more fieldwork. Elizabeth Dulau received critical acclaim for her performance during the last stretch of episodes and solidified herself as a fan-favorite. After making her mark on the galaxy far, far away, Dulau now wants to step into the shoes of a certain video game-birthed adventurer:
Honestly, a dream role would actually be some sort of action hero – someone like Lara Croft! The people who know me best would not be at all surprised to hear me say that. I idolised characters like her and Indiana Jones as a kid, running around the house fighting imaginary bad guys. I even had a toy bow and arrow! Seeing a female character be that undeniably cool, clever and physically capable was so inspiring to me as a child, and my life would really come full circle if I ever got the chance to be that to other kids.
So which Hollywood executives do I have to talk to in order to make this happen? I'm really excited after hearing the House of Guinness tell Country & Town House about her desire to lead the Tomb Raider franchise. Upon giving it thought, there are several reasons as to why she would be a solid fit for the widely loved Lara.
As Kleya Marki, Elizabeth Dulau perfectly exudes the character's stoic nature as well as her desire to stand up for those in need or danger. Kleya has a somewhat defiant nature that shines through even during her conversations with Luthen. There's more to the orphaned character than that, though, as there's also a sheer sense of vulnerability to her that especially shines through during the final episodes of Andor. I'd argue that some of Kleya's final scenes represent some of the show's most tender moments.
Every single attribute described above could easily be applied to Lara Croft as well, which is why I think the London-born actress could slide right into that role. Of course, there is a physical component to the role of Croft, as her former live-action portrayers, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, performed stunts while playing the character. I have no doubts, however, that Elizabeth Dulau could throw herself into training and commit to the necessary physicality.
The Tomb Raider franchise is an interesting space, from a live-action standpoint. Actress and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge was developing a series for Amazon Prime Video, and Sophie Turner was tapped to play Lara. However, that project was eventually canceled. At present, Hayley Atwell portrays the role in the animated series, The Legend of Lara Croft, which is streamable with a Netflix subscription. Given it's been over seven years since the film starring Alicia Vikander hit theaters, it would be wonderful to see another live-action interpretation of Croft.
If another live-action take on the Tomb Raider mythology does come together, I'm not sure if Elizabeth Dulau will actually receive serious consideration. But, given her performance on Andor (which marked her first starring role), she should certainly receive a look from any casting directors. I'll be sitting here crossing my fingers that it happens but, in the meantime, do yourself a favor and check her out on the recently-ended Star Wars show.

Zhu Yilong, Ni Ni on ‘Dongji Rescue' WWII Maritime Epic: ‘Humanism Doesn't Recognize National Boundaries'
Zhu Yilong trained extensively in free diving. Ni Ni built up her physique to look like a 1940s fisherwoman. And for co-director Fei Zhenxiang, the underwater epic about one of WWII's most harrowing rescue missions meant working in complete collaboration with his mentor. 'Dongji Rescue' dramatizes the real-life Lisbon Maru incident of October 1942, when Chinese fishermen rescued over 384 British prisoners of war after their transport ship was accidentally torpedoed by an American submarine. Co-directed by Cannes winner Guan Hu ('Black Dog,' 'The Eight Hundred') and Fei Zhenxiang, the film tells their story of rescue against the backdrop of wartime occupation. 'We have a teacher-student relationship — what Chinese people call 'master and apprentice.' So in creating the script, including filming and everything else, it was all completed together,' Fei says. This collaborative approach extends to the film's central challenge: balancing spectacular maritime action with intimate human drama. 'Because this is based on a real historical event, the event itself involved people against the sea, against heaven and earth,' Fei explains. 'So the story itself possesses this possibility of combining them together, because it flows naturally.' Lead actor Zhu Yilong, known for performances in Cannes selection 'Only the River Flows' and 'Lost in the Stars,' details the extensive preparation required for his role as fisherman Ah Bi. 'First, in terms of skills, we did thorough preparation beforehand, training in diving and free diving, and constantly matching the intensity of the entire filming process in terms of physical fitness,' he says. The psychological preparation proved equally demanding. 'Because this is based on a real historical event, before filming we looked at a lot of materials, then had extensive communication with the directors. The entire film crew also gave us a very good on-location filming environment. What we needed to do was make all preparations, then relax, and after entering the real environment, express all the real emotions we felt,' Zhu adds. When asked about how his previous internationally recognized work influences his role choices, Zhu emphasizes character-driven selection: 'I've always chosen works focusing on characters. For me, characters that can resonate with me, that I can feel have a real sense of existence, including their richness and character arc — if I can resonate with them, I will choose them.' The production faced significant technical challenges, with underwater sequences comprising over 40% of the runtime. The Imax format film utilized robotics for subsurface filming and demanded extensive breath-holding performances from cast members, with full-scale ship recreations constructed on location at Dongji Island. Ni Ni, who stars alongside Zhu as another island resident, Ah Hua, describes her comprehensive approach to embodying a 1940s fisherwoman. 'First, to get close to this character, I had to work out, because this fisherwoman's image requires a strong physique and a skin tone more suitable for that period,' she explains. The preparation extended beyond physical transformation. 'We would look up a lot of materials and pictures online, then watch documentaries. When the director brought all of us actors together on an island, we got to know each other, put on costumes and dressed up as fishermen, entered into the characters. We stood on the mountaintop and felt the resonance this island brought us,' she adds. Despite her diverse filmography spanning different eras and genres, Ni Ni finds common threads in her characters. 'Although they exist in different times or have different personalities, I think the essence is the same because they're all human. How we perceive the world, how we feel joy, anger, sorrow and happiness, how we feel the changes our surrounding environment brings to ourselves — it's all similar.' As the film prepares for its European release, with a London premiere that took place Aug. 15 marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, the cast emphasizes the story's universal appeal. 'What we want to convey to all audiences around the world in our film is humanism — it doesn't recognize national boundaries,' Zhu Yilong states. 'Conscience is humanity's final bottom line.' Ni Ni expands on the humanitarian themes: 'No matter what era we're in, we must revere and respect life — every life. This life doesn't recognize national boundaries or any gender. We must revere, cherish, and respect life, and we must also cherish peace.' Producer Liang Jing explains the timing and epic scale of the production: 'The scale exists because the filming difficulty is genuinely that challenging — it's not scale for scale's sake. This is a story between people. In terms of timing, it definitely has historical significance because Aug. 15 is the 80th anniversary of the victory against fascism worldwide, so its release in the U.K. is very meaningful.' British man rides 55 different roller coasters in one week

File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 19 (UPI) -- An amusement park aficionado from England is on a quest to ride every roller coaster in Britain and Ireland broke a Guinness World Record by boarding 55 of the thrill rides in a single week. Guinness World Records announced Dean Stokes, 36, is the inaugural holder of the record for the most roller coasters ridden in one week, after surpassing the record-keeping organization's goal of 30. "I visited my first theme park as a teenager and quickly realized I loved the adrenaline rush," Stokes told Guinness World Records. "I enjoy finding new theme parks to visit and taking in the whole ambiance from theming, the music and through to the rides themselves." Stokes started his attempt Aug. 2 at Brighton Palace Pier and ended one week later at Thorpe Park in Surrey. Stokes said his original plan was to ride more than 60 coasters in a week, but weather led to two theme parks being unexpectedly closed in the middle of the week. He said his favorite coaster of the attempt was the Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Stokes is now continuing on his quest to ride every roller coaster in Britain and Ireland.
