MCMC seizes TikTok user's phone over false, offensive content
MCMC, in a statement, said the content was believed to have been uploaded in response to issues related to immoral party in the country as well as the Prime Minister's official statement on incentives for the people.
'In another post, the individual is also suspected of making false and highly offensive allegations regarding the Prime Minister's official visit abroad,' it added.
MCMC said the individual's statement was recorded yesterday at its headquarters in Cyberjaya to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
The commission reiterated that it will not compromise on any misuse of social media platforms to spread offensive content or unfounded allegations and will continue to take firm action to safeguard public order and national harmony. — BERNAMA

Toddler mauled to death by stray dogs near home
SUNGAI BULOH: A young couple returning home from work were horrified to find their son, who had been left under the care of his uncle, dead about 20m from their house in an Orang Asli settlement here. In the incident on Tuesday morning, the couple noticed their front door was ajar and their one-year and seven-month-old toddler was not inside the house. They called out his name, but there was no response. They began searching the settlement and found the boy surrounded by stray dogs that had attacked and mauled him to death. Overcome with horror and grief, they carried their son to their car and rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late. Sungai Buloh police chief, Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor, said police received a call at 8.40am from a medical officer at Sungai Buloh Hospital, who reported that a toddler had been rushed to the emergency department unconscious. "Despite swift efforts by the medical team to resuscitate him, the child showed no response. He was pronounced dead at 9.14am. "A detailed examination found multiple scratches and bite marks on his head and entire body, which is consistent with marks of an animal attack," he said. Mohd Hafiz said that at the time of the incident, the boy had been sleeping in the living room under the care of his uncle, who was unaware that the toddler had wandered outside. The boy's body has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital's forensics department for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years' jail or a fine of up to RM50,000, or both. Police urged the public not to speculate on the incident and to come forward with any information by contacting the nearest police station, the Sungai Buloh police hotline at 03-6156 1222, or the investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Aizad Abdul Azik at 013-4861194.

PAPAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on several key initiatives set to benefit millions of Malaysians reflects the government's comprehensive and significant efforts in tackling the rising cost of living faced by the people, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The Communications Minister said one of the main initiatives is the expansion of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, which will benefit 22 million citizens aged 18 and above, with an allocation of RM2bil. Under this programme, Fahmi, who is also Government spokesperson, explained that eligible Malaysians can redeem the one-off RM100 Sara aid credited to their MyKad at over 4,000 participating outlets nationwide to purchase essential goods, such as rice and eggs. "This was implemented after discussions with Cabinet members, and it clearly shows the Prime Minister's attentiveness, empathy and sensitivity to the public's concerns regarding the cost of living." He said this to reporters after attending the Community Engagement Day at Nadi Kampung Langkuas Kinarut near here on Wednesday (July 23), which was also attended by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad. Fahmi said that besides the expanded Sara programme, the government is also doubling the allocation for the Rahmah Sales programme from RM300mil to RM600 mil. "The Prime Minister has announced that each district will have at least one Rahmah Sale location. These two initiatives – Sara and Rahmah Sales – clearly show the Prime Minister's strong focus on addressing the cost of living issue," he said. Fahmi also highlighted the Prime Minister's announcement of a reduced RON95 petrol price, from the current rate to RM1.99 per litre, with the mechanism to be detailed by the Finance Ministry. "This is a reflection of the government's effort in overcoming fiscal deficit, improving governance, and restoring investor confidence over the past two and a half years. Now, the benefits are being returned to the people," he said. Fahmi also noted that today's announcement is just the beginning, with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) scheduled to be tabled on July 31, followed by Budget 2026 in October. "God-willing, come October, the Prime Minister will present Budget 2026, where we can expect deeper, broader, and more responsive initiatives to address the challenges faced by the people," he added. – Bernama
