Foreigner arrested for suspected drug trafficking offences, over $110k worth of cannabis and Ice seized, Singapore News
Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested a 30-year-old foreign national on suspicion of drug trafficking offences on Thursday (June 12).
CNB had approached the 30-year-old on his e-bike near Bendemeer Road during an operation on June 10, but the man had abandoned his ride and fled the scene, the agency said in a press release on June 14.
He was seen discarding a bag into the Kallang River during the ensuing pursuit, and officers found it to contain 2,004g of cannabis and 518g of methamphetamine or 'Ice' upon its recovery.
"The amount of cannabis and 'Ice' seized is estimated to be worth $110,200 and could feed the addiction of about 580 drug abusers for a week," CNB stated.
The man's identity was subsequently established and a follow-up operation on the afternoon of June 12 saw his arrest for suspected drug trafficking offences at the entrance of a condominium near Kampong Eunos. He was escorted to his flat and drug paraphernalia from within was seized.
Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on their own behalf or for another person, to traffic or offer to traffic a controlled drug, or do any act preparatory to trafficking a controlled drug or offering to do so.
Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
Investigations into the drug offences of the suspect are ongoing.

Man, 39, accused of housebreaking jumps bail, arrest warrant issued, Singapore News
A Chinese national facing charges for breaking into a private residence and stealing over $570,000 worth of jewellery has jumped bail. An arrest warrant has been issued to Long Zhihua, 39, after he failed to turn up for a pre-trial conference on May 23. In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Courts said that Long has been uncontactable since April 5, four days after he was granted bail. Long, a member of a housebreaking syndicate, had broken into a home on Windsor Park Road on June 21, 2024, with his accomplice, Luo Changchang, 44. They were arrested five days after the heist, before they had planned to fly back to China on June 29. Several stolen items were found in their hotel room in Geylang, but the victim, a 53-year-old woman, still suffered a loss as more than $390,000 in jewellery remains missing. According to court documents, Long and Luo initially pleaded guilty last December and were awaiting sentencing, but retracted their plea, prompting the court to schedule a pre-trial conference. Long, who had been granted bail, failed to show up in court on April 25. He did turn not turn up to the rescheduled pre-trial conference on May 23, which led to the arrest warrant being issued. Meanwhile, Luo has remained in remand since his arrest. His case is scheduled to be be heard again on July 25. Offenders convicted of housebreaking can be jailed up to 10 years, and fined. A 58-year-old man has been sentenced to 31 years' jail over drug trafficking offences that saw him avoid the death penalty by 0.01g. Mesnawi Dahri was caught while in possession of not less than 14.99g of diamorphine, or 'pure heroin', for the purpose of trafficking. He was originally charged with possessing at least 15g of diamorphine for the purpose of trafficking, according to court documents. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) state on its website that 15g of pure heroin is equivalent to 1,250 straws, which is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week. The death penalty is mandatory for anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine or 250g of methamphetamine or more than 500g of cannabis. The charge was later reclassified and changed to him possessing not less than 14.99g of diamorphine for the purpose of trafficking, with a maximum sentence of 30 years' jail or life imprisonment, court documents showed.
