Masterstroke by Modi govt, India makes big move for this country, Pakistan, China in tension due to...
New Delhi: India has given Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) a special exemption from some foreign investment rules. The decision has been taken by the Indian government with an aim to attract more capital and boost financial ties between the two countries. This will also strengthen relations between New Delhi and Riyadh. The move will also enable the Middle East country to invest more in India. A lot of money from Saudi Arabian companies is invested in Mukesh Ambani's companies.
According to the current rule, if a foreign company of any country invests in India, then its investment coming from different parts will be considered as one, with an investment limit of 10 percent. Because of this rule, companies of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) were not able to invest much in India. This move by India will give tensions to China and Pakistan as both the countries also want to improve their economic relations with Saudi Arabia. What Will Happen Now?
The Indian government has exempted Saudi Arabia's PIF from the current rule. It simply means that different companies of PIF will now be able to make separate investments in the country. This will make it easier for them to invest money in the Indian stock market.
India wants Saudi Arabia to invest more in the country. Saudi Arabia has a lot of money to invest and India needs that money for development work.
The middle east country also wants to invest in fast-growing countries such as India. Under 'Vision 2030', Saudi wants to remove its economy from dependence on oil. Discussion Between The Two Countries?
During Prime Minister Modi's April visit to Saudi Arabia, both nations committed to boosting investment collaborations in energy, infrastructure, and healthcare. Simultaneously, negotiations are underway for a bilateral investment treaty. However, a Reuters source indicates that restrictions on combining investments from various sovereign entities may hinder the Saudi fund and its affiliates from investing autonomously. What Is PIF?
The Public Investment Fund (PIF), a major global sovereign wealth fund with approximately USD925 billion in assets, has invested USD1.5 billion in Jio Platforms and USD1.3 billion in Reliance Retail, both Indian companies. This investment aligns with India's aim to attract long-term capital from Gulf nations, particularly given India's significant oil imports, and Saudi Arabia's 'Vision 2030' plan to boost investment in rapidly expanding economies.
To achieve these goals, both the countries have formed a high-level task force last year. It aims to expedite Saudi's plan to invest USD 100 billion in India. Tax exemption can be available
As per reports, the Indian government is also mulling about giving tax exemption to PIFs. The fund coming from the investments will be used in infrastructure and energy sector.

EC to cancel EPIC of Afghan nationals living illegally in Patna house

Lucknow: Following TOI's May 29 report about a house in Patna that allegedly became a hotbed for immigrants with multiple fake Indian identity cards, the Election Commission of India is set to remove their elector's photo identity card (EPIC) from the electoral roll. The move is significant as Bihar assembly polls are around the corner. Jandullah Dad Mohammad, an Afghan national from Paktika province, was living at Patna's Wakil Anwer House, impersonating as Rehan, son of Kabir, alongside his brother Mansur. After entering India on a six-day medical visa in December 2019, Jandullah went off the radar in Delhi. By 2020, he had managed to obtain a complete set of fake Indian identity documents. His EPIC (AFS3853934), Indian passport (C6978659), Aadhaar card (322874855132), PAN card (ETXPR8222K), driving license (BR0120210005369), SBI bank passbook (39914603822), Patna Municipal Corporation issued birth certificate (B-2019 10-90097 025254), and even a ration card painted a convincing picture of an Indian citizen. "We are now preparing to revoke the EPIC issued in the name of Rehan," said electoral registration officer (ERO) Raghvendra Pratap Singh. The accused foreign national is currently lodged in Lucknow jail after being caught by the Bureau of Immigration from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on May 19. The ECI's consolidated electoral list, published on Jan 7, 2025, under a special summary revision, revealed that the Wakil Anwer House has 12 male occupants, all in their 20s and 30s except one, with no women registered. At least four of them shared identical details: Same age, same father's name (Kabir), and EPICs. Kabir's real identity has been established as Dad Mohammad Khan. His elder son Mansur, who left for Dubai more than six months ago, is registered in electoral roll with two EPICs AFS4130290, AFS4127999. Another resident, Mohammad Sher Khan, also had dual EPICs AFS4129953 and AFS4125266. "Currently, Kabir is missing from Wakil Anwer House, with no confirmation of his existence, though locals confirm his presence in Patna 7-8 years ago. We have cancelled Mansur's and Mohammad Sher Khan's EPICs... One individual cannot have two EPICs," said ERO Raghvendra. He added, "The owner of Wakil Anwer House has not returned to Patna from New Delhi till date. He has now assured to be back around June 9, following which he would furnish details of everyone living in his property."

TPCC chief to take up ceasefire appeal with State government; Peace Talks Committee slams Centre for not announcing ceasefire

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has said that he will bring the Peace Talks Committee's appeal for a ceasefire with the CPI (Maoist) to the notice of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, besides discussing it completely in the party's high-level committee, to explore the possibility of announcing a ceasefire in the State. Addressing a roundtable conference organised by the Peace Talks Committee at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Sunday, Mr. Mahesh slammed the Modi-led Central government for its handling of the Maoist issue and Operation Kagar at Karreguttalu. He accused the Centre of aiming to eliminate Naxalites to hand over mineral wealth in Chhattisgarh and other States to corporate companies. The Congress leader also criticised the Modi government for its 'fascist rule', saying it is willing to hold talks with terrorists but not with those who sacrificed their lives to address social inequalities. Stating that any democratically-elected government must act following the Constitution, he questioned why the Centre is not willing to hold talks with Maoists, who are Indian citizens, while offering a ceasefire with Pakistan. Referring to the Congress's ideology, he remembered that their party was built on the foundations of non-violence. He, however, condemned violence from all sides and stated that Naxalism was born out of economic inequalities. Expressing similar views, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar, representing the party at the conference, emphasised his party's commitment to peace, dialogue and democratic values. He recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, during a public meeting in Warangal, had called for an immediate end to Operation Kagar and urged the Central government to hold peace talks. Mr. Sravan suggested that people resort to arms when they lack a platform to raise their grievances and stressed the need for effective platforms for people to express their grievances. Peace Talks Committee convener Justice Chandrakumar, members Prof. Haragopal, Prof. Anwar Khan and others urged the Centre to hold talks with the Maoists immediately.

Transport dept. to give work order to roll out advanced smart cards for driving licenses and vehicle registrations

In a major technological upgrade, the Karnataka Transport Department has finalised a vendor to design and produce next-generation smart cards for driving licences (DLs) and vehicle registration certificates (RCs). These cards will feature embedded chips and QR codes, offering improved durability, enhanced data security, and easier verification processes. Transport officials revealed that the selected firm is expected to receive the official work order within 15 days. The new smart cards will replace the current polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cards that have been in use for years. These advanced cards are seen as a leap forward in modernising transport documentation, combining robust materials and secure data storage methods. 'The smart cards will be manufactured using polycarbonate, a high-grade material renowned for its strength and resilience. In addition to an embedded chip and a QR code, the cards will include laser-engraved text to prevent the wear and fading commonly seen in PVC cards. This approach ensures that the cards remain legible and tamper-resistant over their lifespan,' a senior transport department official told The Hindu. Officials highlighted that Karnataka is aligning itself with several other Indian States, such as Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh, which have already introduced similar smart card systems for their transport documents. 'The smart DL will store up to 25 distinct data fields, including the licence holder's name, photograph, date of birth, blood group, mobile number, address, licence validity, and emergency contact. Similarly, the upgraded RC will display essential vehicle-related data such as registration number, registration date, validity, chassis and engine numbers, and owner details on the front. The back will carry a QR code that provides extended information, including the vehicle's make, model, type, seating capacity, and financing details,' official added. The embedded QR code will allow quick digital access to basic user information by police and transport officials during inspections, eliminating the need for manual document checks. For more detailed data, authorised personnel can use a dedicated chip reader, thereby simplifying procedures in cases of traffic violations, accidents, or document theft. To maintain consistency and quality across all cards, printing and production will be centralised at the Transport Commissioner's head office in Bengaluru, according to officials. 'This centralised approach will help ensure all smart cards adhere to uniform security and design standards. It will also streamline logistics, reducing delays and ensuring faster delivery to applicants across the state,' the official explained.
