Jeff Buckley Wants To Be Remembered for 'Just The Music' in Late Singer's ‘It's Never Over' Doc Trailer
'How would you like your fans to think of you,' an interviewer asks as the trailer opens. 'Just the music,' he responds. 'Because when I'm dead, that's the only thing that'll be around.'

Elsewhere in trailer, Buckley's remembered for opining that 'I'm not going to last that long,' while a question from an interview on 'where would you like to see yourself in 10 years' goes unanswered, with a moment of suspense.
Director Amy Berg delivers It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley with archival footage combined with interviews his mother Mary Guibert and former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, and with his bandmates as well as with contemporaries like Aimee Mann, who can be seen in the trailer calling Buckley 'literally the best singer I've ever heard.' The film, which debuted at Sundance back in January, is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 8.
'It's difficult to imagine a time when I wasn't attempting to make the Jeff Buckley doc,' Berg said in a statement. 'It's been on my bucket list since I made my first film in 2006. And maybe, since I first heard Grace in 1994. It changed my life forever. It literally became the 'tear that hangs inside my soul forever.'
In a review, The Hollywood Reporter film critic David Rooney called the picture a 'stirring if circumscribed tribute' to Buckley, writing that 'it might not be the Buckley bio everyone needs, but it's a stirring tribute made with a lot of heart.'

Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones in Netflix's ‘Train Dreams' trailer: Everything to know about Clint Bentley's ‘Sing Sing' follow-up
On Thursday, Netflix unveiled the teaser trailer for Train Dreams, directed by Clint Bentley and starring Joel Edgerton. The film premiered to critical acclaim at Sundance, currently holds a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and is already generating significant awards buzz. Bentley cowrote the screenplay with Greg Kwedar, marking their first collaboration since the Oscar-nominated Sing Sing. WHAT'S THE PLOT? The film follows Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a logger and railroad worker navigating life in the forests of the Pacific Northwest during early 20th-century America. It is adapted from Denis Johnson's Pulitzer Prize finalist novella of the same name. More from Gold Derby Eileen Davidson leads Daytime Emmy predictions for Best Drama Actress, but watch out for Nancy Lee Grahn 2025 Emmys: These are the episodes every Best Drama Supporting Actor nominee submitted Bentley has previously described the film as, 'a really special story and it feels very unique in that it is just about this one person's life. This very simple life. Robert Grainier doesn't do anything that really alters the course of history — he doesn't fight in some great battle or create some invention that changes people's lives, and yet he lives a very deep and rich life.' WHO'S IN THE CAST? Besides Edgerton, the film boasts an acclaimed cast that includes Academy Award nominees Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon and William H. Macy, as well as Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, and Paul Schneider and is narrated by Will Patton. WHO ELSE IS BEHIND THE FILM The score is composed by Oscar nominee and multi-Grammy winner Bryce Dessner (The Two Popes, The Revenant). This wild Pedro Pascal movie just got an HBO Max release date
HBO Max is adding new movies all the time, and next month, it's adding "Freaky Tales." Now, if you're like me, you've quite possibly not even heard of this movie. Which was surprising — it was a Sundance film, distributed by Lionsgate and stars a pair of actors I love in Pedro Pascal and Ben Mendelsohn. It even has a bunch of punks fighting Nazis! In short, I should have been all over this movie. But somehow it escaped my notice and most everyone else's, because it reportedly only brought in $400K at the box office. But those who have seen this wild comedy have loved it. It currently has an 89% "hot" rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, even though critics were a bit more muted in their praise. You'll get to judge for yourself on Friday, Aug. 8, when the movie hits HBO Max. Or, if you're someone who prefers linear HBO to the streaming service, it'll air at 8 p.m. ET the next day (Saturday, Aug. 9) on the premium cable channel. In the meantime, here's what "Freaky Tales" is all about and why this wild comedy needs to be added to your watchlist. The most important thing to know about "Freaky Tales" is that it doesn't follow a typical plot structure. Instead, there are four vignettes that are loosely interconnected, only really all coming together at the end. It's based on real events and real locations in 1987 Oakland, California. The first chapter, "Strength in Numbers: The Gilman Strikes Back," focuses on a pair of young punks, Tina (Ji-young Yoo) and Lucid (Jack Champion), who are at an Operation Ivy concert that comes under attack from Nazi punks. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. HBO Max gives you tons of hit shows and movies, from HBO Originals to A24 movies and more. "Don't Fight the Feeling" is the next story, picking up at the same point as the start of the first chapter, but instead focuses on Barbie (Dominique Thorne) and Entice (Normani), who perform as the hip hop duo Danger Zone. They don't go to the Operation Ivy show, but instead are roped into performing with the rapper Too Short. "Born to Mack" is where Pedro finally arrives. He plays Clint, a career criminal who is looking to get out of the game. When he's asked to pull a job during a Warriors basketball game, that desire to leave crime behind is put to the test. Finally, there's "The Legend of Sleepy Floyd." This is where the story finally starts to come together. Sleepy Floyd (Jay Ellis) is a star for the Warriors, and it's his house that Clint is supposed to rob. But instead, "The Guy" (Mendelsohn), sends the Nazi punks to rob it and things go horribly wrong. As I mentioned earlier, audiences are loving this movie for the most part. Critics are a bit harsher on it, and after combing through the reviews from both parties, this seems to come down to critics judging its (admittedly) loosely connected chapters failing to come together properly in the end. Ultimately, if you want a wild comedy that doubles as an impressive period piece, then "Freaky Tales" seems like it's worth watching. It doesn't necessarily stick the landing narratively, but the acting of its loaded cast is sublime, and its recreation of 1987 Oakland has been masterfully done by all accounts. Even Deadline praised the period elements of the movie in its review, saying, "What does work for 'Freaky Tales' is the film's gritty visuals immediately immerse the audience in the look and feel of late-'80s Oakland." ‘After the Hunt' is the latest Best Picture hopeful to open the New York Film Festival
Luca Guadagnino is going to be on the road a lot in the coming months. One day after the Italian filmmaker's latest feature, After the Hunt, joined the Venice Film Festival lineup as an out of competition selection, the New York Film Festival announced that the Amazon MGM-released film will play as the opening night selection of its 63rd edition. "We are excited to open this year's festival with Luca Guadagnino's latest, which confirms his status as one of the most versatile risk-takers working today," NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim said in a statement. "Brilliantly acted and crafted, After the Hunt is something rare in contemporary cinema: a complex, grown-up movie with a lot on its mind that also happens to be a deeply satisfying piece of entertainment." More from Gold Derby 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps': Instant Oscar odds Jim Jarmusch's 'Father Mother Sister Brother' set for North American premiere at New York Film Festival In his own statement, Guadagnino called NYFF "an arbiter of global cinema," and provided a quick preview of the movie's themes. "I, alongside the incredible cast and crew and our companions at Amazon MGM Studios who made After the Hunt possible, am elated and thrilled to bring to New York our tale of morality and power." That tale plays out against the backdrop of an Ivy League campus where celebrated professor Alma Olsson (Julia Roberts) becomes embroiled in a "he said, she said" case involving two close colleagues: her fellow scholar Hank Gibson (Andrew Garfield) and her pupil Maggie Price (Ayo Edebiri). Their tight-knit relationship unravels when Maggie accuses Hank of assault, a charge that opens up a can of worms in Alma's own past. Introducing After the Hunt's first trailer at CinemaCon earlier this year alongside Edebiri and Guadagnino, Garfield promised that the film would be a conversation-starter throughout award season. "[Luca] has a rare gift of exploring the complexity of what it is to be human," the actor said. "That's why we're so excited for audiences to see After the Hunt. I have a feeling it's a film that needs to be seen in a cinema, because I think it's gonna spark a lot of conversations." Those conversations are sure to fill the Lincoln Center lobby following the movie's NYFF bow on Sept. 26. It's the first time that one of Guadagnino's films has opened the festival, and the director joins a long list of filmmakers who have seen their own opening night selections go on to join the Best Picture race. Just last year, for example, RaMell Ross's Nickel Boys — another Amazon MGM release — went on to the 10 Best Picture nominees after kicking off the 62nd edition of NYFF. But arguably the most famous NYFF-to-Oscar transfer remains David Fincher's The Social Network, which had its world premiere at Lincoln Center in 2010 and went on to receive eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. While it lost those statuettes to The King's Speech and its director Tom Hooper, the movie did win three awards: Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score and Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin, who recently revealed that he's working on a sequel. The 63rd New York Film Festival runs Sept. 26-Oct. 13.
