Mariska Hargitay Announces New Documentary About Her Late Mother Jayne Mansfield: 'Strength in Vulnerability'

Yahoo08-04-2025
Mariska Hargitay's latest project is personal.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star announced on Tuesday, April 8 that she's been working on My Mom Jayne, a documentary about the life of her late mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield.
In a joint Instagram post with Hargitay, 61, HBO noted the project is defined by "strength in vulnerability," and added that the documentary is about Hargitay "embracing... the mother she never knew."

Hargitay, who directed the documentary, which premieres in June, was on a mission to get to know Mansfield on her own, as an adult, some 57 years after her mother's tragic death. Mansfield would've turned 92 on April 19.

When Hargitay was just three years old, she, along with her two older brothers, survived the car wreck that killed Mansfield, then just 34, in 1967.
Hargitay, who shares three children with her husband of 20 years Peter Hermann, has spoken often about her mother's posthumous influence on her life.
During her speech as an honoree at Variety's Power of Women event in New York in May 2024, Hargitay celebrated fellow honorees Anitta, Shonda Rhimes and Amy Schumer. The latter, dressed in what the SVU star described as a 'glorious sequiny pink dress,' received a special shoutout from the actress.
When Hargitay saw Schumer, 42, in her gown, she said she 'immediately thought' of Mansfield, who famously loved the color pink, telling the Trainwreck star, 'I feel like my mom's here with me.'
'Because you're Jayne Mansfield incarnate right now, so thank you for that,' she said to Schumer. 'I always look for signs, and she's here and she's today with me.'
On special occasions, Hargitay herself will often channel her mom through fashion. When she received Glamour's Women of the Year award in 2021, she rocked a pink one-shoulder Valentino number.

Then, in October 2023, Hargitay was honored with an award from the Women's Media Center. Prior to the start of the ceremony, Hargitay found herself taking photos with organization co-founder Jane Fonda on the red carpet — and listening to photographers yell their names in tandem.
The moment wasn't lost on Hargitay, who turned to whisper something to Fonda on the carpet, and later took a moment in her acceptance speech to honor the serendipity.
'I met the magnificent Jane Fonda tonight, who obviously is one of my heroes and mentors. And as the photographers were standing in front of me, they said, 'Mariska, Jane. Mariska, Jane,'' the actress explained.
'And so I thank you for that moment and I thank you for being able to stand next to you, and I also feel that you invoked my mother here tonight," she continued, lauding Fonda.
"I thank you for that, and I bring her in here in this moment because I think she would love this night.'
And, as recently as September 2024, even Hargitay's photoshoot for Interview Magazine was inspired by shots of the famous screen siren.
My Mom Jayne isn't Hargitay's first foray into the documentary world, either. In 2017, the multi-hyphenate produced Emmy-winning I Am Evidence about the rape kit backlog in the United States.
The actress is also still chasing down perps on the streets of New York City as Captain Olivia Benson on SVU, which is currently in it's record-breaking 26th season on NBC, and she continues to work closely with her foundation Joyful Heart, which she launched in 2004 with a focus on healing and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

Bonkers Red-Band Trailer For DC's PEACEMAKER Season 2 Delivers Bloody Mayhem — GeekTyrant

HBO Max has unleashed the red-band trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, and it's just as chaotic, violent, and unfiltered as fans could've hoped for. With the series set to return next week, this trailer gives us a clear look at where things are headed, and it looks absolutely bonkers! From an eye-gouging Eagly bird attack to multiversal madness, James Gunn is clearly upping the stakes as the show transitions fully into the new DC Universe. The trailer wastes no time going full throttle. There's a heavy dose of bloody violence, and there's even an orgy thrown into the mix, because of course there is, along with a Lex Luthor name drop that suggests some major DC players are creeping into the storyline. The season teases a trip into a strange new world where things are just a bit... off. There's a version of Peacemaker who's famous, emotionally stable, and in love with Emilia Harcourt . Whether this is a parallel universe, an illusion, or something even crazier remains to be seen. We also get a glimpse of Rick Flag Sr. , played by Frank Grillo, who's clearly looking for revenge after his son's death in The Suicide Squad . The guy seems pissed — and likely dangerous. James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 will have a direct tie-in with Superman , the upcoming DCU film. 'You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker , and we see more about that technology in Superman ,' said Gunn. 'The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2.' He added, 'We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman .' He even teased that, 'There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.' That last comment has fans speculating, especially since the final few episodes weren't sent to critics, just like Season 1, which famously featured surprise cameos from Aquaman and The Flash. Critics were given five of the eight episodes ahead of the premiere, and the social media and review embargo lifts tomorrow. That's when we'll get the first wave of reactions to see if Peacemaker can keep DC Studios' current hot streak going, following the success of Creature Commandos and Superman . Peacemaker season 2 follows Christopher 'Chris' Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante superhero, as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evildoer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost. He discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands. This second batch of episodes will star Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Brey Noelle, and Tim Meadows. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed three, including the first episode. The second season of Peacemaker officially premieres August 21, 2025, on HBO Max.

The Best Restaurant Restrooms for a Selfie Break in Atlanta

Lia Picard is a lifestyle journalist who has called Atlanta home for more than a decade. Since 2017, she's written about the intersection of food and culture as well as the restaurant industry and the fascinating people that comprise it. We go to restaurants for the food and ambiance, but these days, a well-designed bathroom may steal the show. In the Instagram era, bathrooms do more than serve as a pit stop; they're backdrops for selfie photoshoots. Designers across Atlanta are creating bathrooms decked out with murals, tiled mosaics, and dreamy lighting. Whether it's a neon sign or flying pigs, here are eight Atlanta restaurant bathrooms that make a mid-meal bathroom break part of the overall experience. You don't have to attend a swanky 12-course dinner at Kinship to use their restroom; just stop by for a breakfast sandwich or a coffee from Academy. Or maybe some bacon? The restroom's decor pays homage to the butcher shop setting with a pink LED sign that says 'ham' and a whimsical mural of flying pigs spanning the walls. Plenty of potted plants line the floor. The bathroom at Kinship Butcher & Sundry. Lia Picard While it's Jarrett Stieber's creativity and execution on the plate that garnered accolades from Michelin, the restaurant's bathrooms are uniquely designed, too. There are two to choose from: blue or pink. The pink restroom is awash in a pink glow from a neon sign in cheeky Little Bear fashion that simply reads 'neon sign,' while the blue bathroom sports an abstract hand-cut tile mosaic by artist Wihro Kim. It's an exciting time at Umi — the restaurant recently installed Kazuo Yoshida as chef and unveiled renovated restrooms. Umi's dining room pulses with upbeat music and sharply dressed diners (maybe even a celeb or two), while the restrooms serve as a quiet retreat from the hubbub. The single-stall bathrooms riff on minimalist Japanese design with Pietra d'Avola marble lining the walls, floors, and sink. It's a dark and moody sanctuary, but the real star of the loo is the seat-warming Toto toilet. Valor's Dunwoody location is sun-filled and high energy, with a quiet escape found in their two single-stall bathrooms. One is your standard restroom, while the other is decidedly a vibe with a glowing pink light. It's a little trippy, but with the help of botanical scented hand soaps by Everyone, it's also kind of zen. Writer Lia Picard at Tiny Lou's peach wallpaper-covered bathroom. Lia Picard Tiny Lou's restroom is wrapped in oversized peach wallpaper, a nod to its home state, we're sure. The bold orange and green palette has a way of making you feel like you're in an orchard and creates a dreamy landscape. Since you're already at Hotel Clermont, you may as well swing by the lobby bathroom, which is cool in a different way with two-way mirrors in the powder room. Check out the two-way mirrors at the lobby bathroom in Hotel Clermont. Asher Moss You must visit the bathroom at Ryokou in Adair Park. It's one of the most luxurious experiences in town: It's all black, with a heated toilet seat, a beautiful marble sink, and even matching black toilet paper. The room is candlelit, and black rolled hand towels complete the look. These details are a wonderful respite from the equally gorgeous dining room. Read our full scene report of the restaurant here. — Henna Bakshi, Eater regional and audience editor, Southeast. Located in Midtown, the Consulate is designed to the hilt throughout the dining room with decor that matches its global fare, and the bathrooms are just as design-forward. Choose your fighter: the 'gun room' or the 'green room.' The gun room pays homage to James Bond and features a literal wall of prop guns and movie memorabilia. The green room, on the other hand, soothes with a soft palette, floral artworks, and a vintage dressing room chair. There's a mid-century modern flair in both of them, adding to a sense of timelessness. Whether you visit the St. Regis in Buckhead for Michelin-starred Atlas or afternoon tea, you're likely dressed up for the occasion. Marble-tiled walls and floors, as well as a handsome chandelier and a recessed ceiling, reinforce the glam essence associated with the hotel. Floor-length mirrors make it easy to get a fit check (and maybe a quick pic) before heading out. Located in Decatur, the Reading Room creates a cozy setting with its boho-chic, plant-filled decor in its coffee shop. The bathrooms further reflect that design. One bathroom wraps the visitor in a lush tropical print on black wallpaper and a stunning brass sink, while the other sports a lighter, cheery floral and butterfly-printed wallpaper. Both pack an aesthetic punch, so you can't go wrong.
