Mariska Hargitay Announces New Documentary About Her Late Mother Jayne Mansfield: 'Strength in Vulnerability'
Mariska Hargitay's latest project is personal.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star announced on Tuesday, April 8 that she's been working on My Mom Jayne, a documentary about the life of her late mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield.
In a joint Instagram post with Hargitay, 61, HBO noted the project is defined by "strength in vulnerability," and added that the documentary is about Hargitay "embracing... the mother she never knew."

Hargitay, who directed the documentary, which premieres in June, was on a mission to get to know Mansfield on her own, as an adult, some 57 years after her mother's tragic death. Mansfield would've turned 92 on April 19.

When Hargitay was just three years old, she, along with her two older brothers, survived the car wreck that killed Mansfield, then just 34, in 1967.
Hargitay, who shares three children with her husband of 20 years Peter Hermann, has spoken often about her mother's posthumous influence on her life.
During her speech as an honoree at Variety's Power of Women event in New York in May 2024, Hargitay celebrated fellow honorees Anitta, Shonda Rhimes and Amy Schumer. The latter, dressed in what the SVU star described as a 'glorious sequiny pink dress,' received a special shoutout from the actress.
When Hargitay saw Schumer, 42, in her gown, she said she 'immediately thought' of Mansfield, who famously loved the color pink, telling the Trainwreck star, 'I feel like my mom's here with me.'
'Because you're Jayne Mansfield incarnate right now, so thank you for that,' she said to Schumer. 'I always look for signs, and she's here and she's today with me.'
On special occasions, Hargitay herself will often channel her mom through fashion. When she received Glamour's Women of the Year award in 2021, she rocked a pink one-shoulder Valentino number.

Then, in October 2023, Hargitay was honored with an award from the Women's Media Center. Prior to the start of the ceremony, Hargitay found herself taking photos with organization co-founder Jane Fonda on the red carpet — and listening to photographers yell their names in tandem.
The moment wasn't lost on Hargitay, who turned to whisper something to Fonda on the carpet, and later took a moment in her acceptance speech to honor the serendipity.
'I met the magnificent Jane Fonda tonight, who obviously is one of my heroes and mentors. And as the photographers were standing in front of me, they said, 'Mariska, Jane. Mariska, Jane,'' the actress explained.
'And so I thank you for that moment and I thank you for being able to stand next to you, and I also feel that you invoked my mother here tonight," she continued, lauding Fonda.
"I thank you for that, and I bring her in here in this moment because I think she would love this night.'
And, as recently as September 2024, even Hargitay's photoshoot for Interview Magazine was inspired by shots of the famous screen siren.
My Mom Jayne isn't Hargitay's first foray into the documentary world, either. In 2017, the multi-hyphenate produced Emmy-winning I Am Evidence about the rape kit backlog in the United States.
The actress is also still chasing down perps on the streets of New York City as Captain Olivia Benson on SVU, which is currently in it's record-breaking 26th season on NBC, and she continues to work closely with her foundation Joyful Heart, which she launched in 2004 with a focus on healing and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

Christian Music Star Michael Tait Breaks Silence On Sexual Abuse Allegation
Wondering why Michael Tait is making headlines across the Christian music world? The former Newsboys frontman recently admitted to serious misconduct. A years-long investigation had revealed allegations of drug abuse and sexual assault. Michael Tait's 'confession' followed a detailed report involving multiple alleged victims. Here's what we know about the allegations and Michael Tait's 'confession.' On June 10, Michael Tait shared a post on Instagram titled 'My Confession.' He admitted to drug use and unwanted sexual advances on men. His statement followed the release of an investigative article by The Roys Report, which accused Tait of misconduct over a span of two decades. Tait wrote, 'Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and sexual activity are sadly, largely true.' In the post, Tait confessed, 'For some two decades I used and abused cocaine, consumed far too much alcohol, and, at times, touched men in an unwanted sensual way.' He said he made no excuses, adding, 'While I might dispute certain details in the accusations against me, I do not dispute the substance of them.' He also acknowledged, 'I was, for the most part, living two distinctly different lives.' Tait left Newsboys abruptly in January 2025. On June 4, The Roys Report revealed three men accused Tait of assault during tours in 2004, 2010, and 2014. Two said he fondled them after drinking. One alleged non-consensual touching after Tait invited him to share a bed. Newsboys responded in a June 5 statement, writing, 'We are horrified, heartbroken, and angry… we feel as if we and our families have been deceived for the last fifteen years.' K-LOVE and other Christian radio networks paused airplay for Newsboys and DC Talk music after the story broke. Tait wrote that he had entered a treatment facility in Utah earlier this year and had been sober since. 'I accept the consequences of my sin and am committed to continuing the hard work of repentance and healing,' he stated. He concluded by apologizing to those hurt by his actions. Justin Baldoni's Legal Team Breaks Silence After Defamation Dismissal Against Blake Lively
The legal team of Justin Baldoni called out Blake Lively on her premature celebration after the court dismissed his $400 million lawsuit. The case accused Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and publicist Leslie Sloane of defamation, extortion, and interference. Here's what Baldoni's lawyer revealed about the ruling, which claims remain, and how they plan to continue the legal fight. Justin Baldoni's lawyer has confirmed that the actor-director will continue legal action against Blake Lively. A federal judge recently dismissed his $400 million defamation lawsuit. On June 10, Bryan Freedman stated, 'Ms. Lively and her team's predictable declaration of victory is false,' adding that the court has allowed them to amend four of the seven dismissed claims, as per Variety. Freedman said, 'This case is about false accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation and a nonexistent smear campaign, which Ms. Lively's own team conveniently describes as 'untraceable' because they cannot prove what never happened.' He added, 'Most importantly, Ms. Lively's own claims are no truer today than they were yesterday, and with the facts on our side, we march forward with the same confidence that we had when Ms. Lively and her cohorts initiated this battle.' On June 9, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Baldoni's defamation claims against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, publicist Leslie Sloane, and The New York Times. He ruled that California law protects sexual harassment allegations. The court gave Baldoni until June 23 to refile amended claims for contract interference and breach of the implied covenant. On June 9, Lively's legal team stated, 'As we have said from day one, this '$400 million' lawsuit was a sham, and the Court saw right through it.' Attorneys Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb added, 'No amount of spin, bluster, or creative accounting from Baldoni's legal team will change the embarrassing reality… the plan to sue Blake Lively and her family into oblivion has been a complete and total failure.' Lively commented via Instagram about 'the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit' and emphasized support for women's rights groups. The trial is currently scheduled for March 2026.
