NEW DELHI (Bernama) : Cricket will be part of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced. The announcement was made during the ACC's Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Thursday. In a statement, ACC said 10 men's and eight women's teams will participate in the Games, selected based on their rankings from across the continent. The 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou marked cricket's return to the continental event after nine years. The annual meeting welcomed Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and the Philippines as new members of the ACC. Representatives from all member nations participated in the meeting either physically or virtually. The meeting was chaired by ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who was warmly welcomed on arrival in Dhaka on Wednesday by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam. KUALA LUMPUR: The national sepak takraw squad lived up to expectations by booking their place in the final after defeating India 2-0 in the team regu event of the 2025 Thai King's Cup Championship in Songkhla today. In the semi-final held at Hatyai Hall, Central Hatyai Shopping Centre, the first regu comprising veterans Muhammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Farhan Adam and Mohammad Azlan Alias got off to a fiery start, securing the first point with a 15-10, 15-11 win. In the second match, the trio of Muhammad Noraizat Mohd Nordin, Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam and Norfaizzul Abd Razak continued the momentum to seal a second straight-set victory, 15-11, 15-8. The win rekindled hopes of ending Malaysia's 34-year wait for the team event title against arch-rivals Thailand in the final tomorrow. Earlier, hosts Thailand, known as the 'White Elephants', confirmed their spot in the final after overcoming South Korea 2-0 (15-8, 15-11), (15-8, 15-7). KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah fell short of reaching the final of the 2025 China Open Badminton Championship after losing to home duo Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian in the semi-finals today. In the match held at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, world number three Pearly-Thinaah went down 14-21, 17-21 in 38 minutes, extending their head-to-head record against the Chinese pair to 1-4 from five encounters. So far this season, Pearly and Thinaah have secured only one title — the 2025 Thailand Open, which they won in May.
