Michelle Collins pockets six-figure payday as EastEnders return boosts earnings
Michelle Collins has revealed that her dramatic comeback as the iconic Cindy Beale in EastEnders has paid off not just creatively, but financially, with her personal company, It Worx Limited, seeing a major surge in earnings following her return to Albert Square.
The actress, 63, who founded the company in 1996 to manage income from her television work, saw its cash reserves jump from just £20,000 to nearly £200,000 in the year ending March 2024.
According to newly published Companies House records as seen by The Sun, she now faces a Corporation Tax bill of £69,694, suggesting her earnings from the period were roughly five times that amount.
Despite the financial success, Collins admitted she initially felt uncertain about reprising her role as Cindy after 25 years off-screen.
Speaking at the TRIC Awards at Grosvenor House in London, she said: 'I didn't know if people would be happy that she was back. I really didn't know, you have to take that risk! But I think she's gone down quite well.'
Since her shock return, following a twist that revealed Cindy had faked her death and lived under the alias Rose Sawyer in witness protection, Collins has thrown herself back into the soap's most outrageous storylines.
Now entangled in messy relationships and dramatic feuds, Cindy's latest arc includes an affair with her ex-husband George Knight's son, Junior.
Collins says audiences have embraced the character's villainous streak. 'I think people are liking her,' she said. 'People don't want to see nice Cindy. She was nice for a while, and they don't want to see nice Cindy - I promise you, they don't.
"Sometimes I'll pick up the scripts and I'll go, 'Oh no, you can't. Really? Having an affair with his son? No, it'll be fine, people love her.''
Michelle originally joined the cast in 1988, before returning in 1992 for a longer stint. Her 2023 return marked a major moment in soap history, with the twist that she had never actually died in prison as previously believed.
Outside of EastEnders, the 63-year-old is preparing to debut a one-woman show titled Motorhome Marilyn at the Edinburgh Festival this summer.
The play follows a Marilyn Monroe impersonator on the road, and Collins has been granted a month-long break from filming to take part.
While she's remained quiet about how Cindy will temporarily leave the Square, she hinted that details of her character's exit will be revealed soon.

YouTube star and EastEnders actress among first batch of Strictly contestants
The popular BBC dancing show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, will return to TV screens in September with a new host of famous faces competing each week to win the glitterball trophy. Podcast host and YouTube star George Clarke was announced as the sixth celebrity contestant on Tuesday during BBC Radio 1's Going Home drivetime show. Michelle Collins: ‘The death of my school friend changed my life'
Michelle Collins, who's in Edinburgh with her Fringe show, Motorhome Marilyn, is best known for playing Cindy Beale in EastEnders. It's a dark comedy about a woman called Denise who went to America to seek fame and fortune and ends up as a Marilyn impersonator. She is an obsessive Marilyn fan and also lives in a motorhome, hence the title. She has a very lonely existence in Las Vegas, living with her pet python, and has been Marilyn for so long she is not quite sure who Denise is any more. Port Logan, where I spent three summers filming Two Thousand Acres of Sky (even though the series was set on a fictional island off Skye). It was probably the most enjoyable filming I've ever done. Port Logan is a tiny village next to Portpatrick with, I think, a population then of only about 20 people. Just beautiful. In the height of summer I remember it not getting dark until so late, and sometimes you could see the northern lights. I love the beautiful, rugged landscape of Scotland; I feel a real affinity with the country. I also filmed Sea of Souls with Bill Paterson right up in northern Scotland, near Durness. It was a really hot summer and there were caves right on the beach. When the weather is good, Scotland is the best place in the world. The beaches were so beautiful and it was quite spooky because it was about a psychic criminologist and that part of Scotland in the north is quite spooky — I even stayed in a haunted hotel and saw a ghost. Mother India's café in Edinburgh, an amazing Indian tapas restaurant near the Gilded Balloon, where I am performing this year. There were also some fantastic fish restaurants in Portpatrick: I remember getting my first deep-fried Mars bar there. I used to have big posters of the Arsenal football team, especially when they did the double in the early Seventies. I still support them now. My agent didn't really want me to do it, but I wanted to because I loved the book. I loved playing the character, Marigold. It did really well — it won Baftas and an International Emmy. And I had a very memorable experience going to New York with Jacqueline Wilson. I was presented with the Emmy by Lenny Kravitz. • Miriam Margolyes: 'They call me vile. I'm absolutely delightful' I have very fond memories of going to see Oliver! with my mum when I was a kid. We saw it loads of times and every time I see it on TV now I feel an overwhelming sense of warmth and nostalgia. It still makes me cry. Also, The Sound of Music. Meeting a girl called Kate Healy. I was about 14, she was 15. We had very, very different lives; she had much more of a privileged life than I did. I would say she was more middle class, I was working class from a single-parent family. Sadly, Kate died when she was 16 — I was devastated. Killer John left reeling in Emmerdale as new Nate evidence comes to light
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is in for a shock when it's revealed that Nate's death in Emmerdale is not all wrapped up in a bow as he thought – there's some damning evidence floating around that could yet bring him to justice. This is not good news and could mean all the hard work he put in framing dead man Owen for the murder was all for nothing. He's even managed to get Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) off his back after he came dangerously close to discovering the truth. Robert figured out that Owen had an alibi and that John had been to his house the day before he was found dead. But John carefully orchestrated things to discredit Robert in both the villagers' eyes and sister Vic's (Isabel Hodgins) both by portraying him as a scorned ex, and a threat to nephew Harry's safety. Now John just has to worry about the fact that actual, credible evidence is about to come to light. DC Cole puts Cain (Jeff Hordley) on edge when he's told they need to discuss Nate's murder. There is new evidence, which they need to discuss. Cain relays this to John, who is immediately struck with a sense of impending doom. It opens wounds for Cain and Tracy (Amy Walsh), who thought they could put the nature of Nate's death to bed and begin to work through their loss. But a fresh round of questioning reignites the pain. The elusive removal man is finally tracked down and suspicions are raised when Tracy shows him a photo and he doesn't recognise the man – Nate – who supposedly hired him. More Trending The police question him and he confirms it was in fact Owen who paid for his service. Of course, John has got involved here – it appears he has paid the man off.
