New MSU edge rusher is turning heads in practice, has 'some serious juice'
It was a point of priority for the Spartans to revamp their edge rushing room in the offseason, and it sounds like that has been an early success during fall preseason camp. There have been a number of players and coaches comments from preseason camp that would suggest a big improvement at that position, and on Thursday, we heard some more good news on a new Spartan.
According to a post from Kenny Jordan of On3, redshirt freshman edge rusher Anelu Lafaele has caught the attention of his position coach Chad Wilt. He said Lafaele has "some serious juice" -- which would suggest he is going to play a role on the Spartans defense for the next few years.
Lafaele started his career at Wisconsin before transferring to Michigan State in the winter transfer portal. He was a four-star prospect in the 2024 class, and redshirted during his lone season with the Badgers.
Michigan State's pass rushing was one of the worst in the Big Ten last year, and is hopefully going to see massive improvements this season. This comment from Wilt is another positive sign of that being the case when the Spartans open the 2025 season later this month.

UNC football lands top 100 recruit in 2026 class
Bill Belichick lands another big recruit Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue to prep for the 2025 season with kickoff against TCU just under three weeks away. While this is the first year under Belichick, the program will really start to feel his impact in terms of recruiting in the 2026 class. And the Tar Heels just added another big piece to that 2026 class. On Friday, the Tar Heels secured a commitment from top 100 player C.J. Sadler as he ended his recruitment and picked North Carolina. The four-star athlete picked the Tar Heels over his other finalists, Colorado, Maryland, and Michigan. The Michigan native is the top recruit in the state and a top 100 player overall, giving UNC their second-highest-rated recruit in the Belichick era behind only quarterback Travis Burgess. With Sadler being listed as an athlete, the plan is for him to play defensive back, wide receiver and be a return man for the Tar Heels per 247Sports. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Sadler is ranked No. 85 nationally, the No. 8 athlete, and No. 1 player in the state of Michigan per the 247Sports rankings. With his commitment, UNC now has the No. 17 overall class for the 2026 cycle. 'It was great': Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed's SportsCenter conversation on Friday
With Texas A&M's 2025 season opener against UTSA just two weeks and one day away, starting quarterback Marcel Reed has begun to make the media rounds, speaking to ESPN's SportCenter on Friday afternoon just a day after former Aggie QB and Heisman winner Johnny Manziel made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, where he discussed his belief in Reed's ability heading into the redshirt sophomore's first full starting season. Reed's confidence is noticeable every time he is in front of a camera, which is what every head coach expects from the team's leader. One of the many reasons the Tennessee native is likely beaming from ear to ear is the team's revamped wide receiver rotation, now featuring transfers KC Concepcion (NC State) and Mario Craver (Mississippi State), who chose the Aggies over multiple blue-blood suitors. Regarding his conversation with Manziel, Reed revealed what he and the college football legend discussed to SportsCenter, including Manziel's memorable connection to future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans. 'It was great. When you grow up watching college football, you think of Johnny Manziel for sure. I have been blessed to be able to come to this college and have the opportunity to speak with him.' Amid his struggles, Texas A&M has continued to back Manziel, and he has done the same, connecting with the current roster whenever possible and developing a strong connection with Reed, which could pay off on the field. When asked about his new weapons in the passing game, Concepcion was the first name that came up, and, of course, Reed noted the former NC State standout's elite ability to make plays whenever the ball is in his hands. 'He has a history of being a really good receiver, and I'm really excited to play beside him this year, give him the ball and get him some yards.' Concepcion is the current active leader in touchdown receptions (16) and has already shown his ability as a redzone threat during several preseason practice clips. Texas A&M's passing game will only improve if Reed makes the necessary strides and gains an early rapport with Concecpcion, Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and the newly formed tight end rotation.
