Rassie van der Dussen to lead South Africa's T20I squad for tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand

South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen celebrates after scoring fifty during the ICC Champions Trophy cricket match between Afghanistan and South Africa, in Karachi, Pakistan Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. AP/PTI South Africa has named Rassie van der Dussen , who has played 50 T20 Internationals, as captain of their T20I squad that includes four uncapped players - Corbin Bosch, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Rubin Hermann, and Senuran Muthusamy - for the tri-series against hosts Zimbabwe and New Zealand, set to take place in Harare from 14 - 26 July. The new faces earned their spots following impressive domestic performances, particularly in the SA20 tournament. Pretorius dominated the 2025 SA20 edition as the leading run-scorer, accumulating 397 runs with a strike rate of 166. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rubin Hermann also showed his prowess with 333 runs at an average of 41.43. Bosch, who has previously represented the Proteas in ODIs and Tests, contributed significantly to MI Cape Town's SA20 victory this year, while Muthusamy strengthens the team's spin-bowling all-rounder options. The squad welcomes back Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, and Gerald Coetzee after their injury recoveries, joining Lungi Ngidi and emerging fast bowler Kwena Maphaka in the bowling department. "With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates opportunities for others to step in and show what they can offer," said head coach Shukri Conrad, who will oversee his first T20I series since becoming the all-format coach. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now "This is a chance for us to build depth and see how these players cope with international demands," Conrad added. IND vs ENG: 'Continues to raise the bar', LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka issues lengthy praise for Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant scored centuries in both innings of the first Test between India and England. (AP) Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant achieved his career-best ranking of seventh position in the ICC Test rankings for batters after scoring two remarkable centuries in the first Test against England at Leeds, making him only the second wicketkeeper in history to achieve this feat. Pant's outstanding performance included scores of 134 and 118 in the Leeds Test, which England ultimately won by five wickets. His achievement matches Zimbabwe's Andy Flower as the only wicketkeepers to score two centuries in the same Test match. The 27-year-old's success is particularly noteworthy following his near-fatal car accident in December 2022, where he had to escape from his burning vehicle after it overturned.
