Keely Hodgkinson to compete at Alexis Ohanian's Athlos NYC meet in October

Athlos, a project backed by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian's venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, premiered at Icahn Stadium last September and returns to the same venue on October 10, just under three weeks after the World Athletics Championships wrap up in Tokyo. Hodgkinson has been recovering from a hamstring issue, and recently withdrew from Saturday's London Diamond League meet – the second delayed start to her season – but her team said the 23-year-old still aims to arrive in Japan in 'peak form'. Olympic gold medalist. BBC Sports Personality of the Year. 800M legend. THE @keelyhodgkinson is landing at ATHLOS NYC. Great Britain's track queen is coming to fight for her crown 👑 — ATHLOS (@athlos) July 15, 2025 'Athlos NYC represents everything I love about our sport: unity, passion, and the pursuit of greatness,' Hodgkinson said. 'I can't wait to line up alongside some of the best in the world to cap off the season.' Athlos' inaugural edition paid out more than USD 600,000 – the largest-ever purse for a women's track event – with winners taking home USD 60,000 (£44,603), and also featured a give-back initiative in which 10 per cent of ticketing, commercial sponsorship and broadcast revenues were re-distributed to participating athletes. Last year's event had a purposeful festival feel, featuring a performance from rapper and songwriter Megan Thee Stallion. Unlike the track-only inaugural competition, Athlos' second iteration will also include a field event, long jump, headlined by American Olympic champion Tara Davis-Woodhall. British 400m record holder Amber Anning, who collected a pair of relay bronzes at the Paris 2024 Olympics and the individual world 400m indoors title in March, has also signed up. The Track & Field Experience levels up again on October 10th in NYC. Y'all ready for @athlos ?? — Alexis Ohanian 🗽 (@alexisohanian) June 16, 2025 In 2026, Athlos plans to shift from an individual-centred event to a team-based league format. Ohanian, who is married to 23-time tennis grand slam singles champion Serena Williams, announced in May that he had bought a stake in Women's Super League side Chelsea – reportedly 10 per cent and worth around £20million. He has also joined the board of the club, telling the BBC he thinks Chelsea's 'queens of global soccer' could become a 'billion-dollar franchise'. He wrote on X: 'I've bet big on women's sports before – and I'm doing it again.'

Kate Cross expects results under ‘queen of English cricket' Charlotte Edwards

Charlotte Edwards, who captained England to 50-over and T20 World Cup glory in 2009, replaced Jon Lewis as head coach in April and has just a few months to mould her team before the 2025 edition of the former competition in India and Sri Lanka. Edwards will send her side into the first of three one-day internationals against India in Southampton on Wednesday on the back of 3-2 T20 series defeat by the same opposition, with Cross confident her inspirational former captain can make a significant impact. ODI squad assemble! 😍 Training vibes high 👊 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) July 15, 2025 The Lancashire pace bowler said: 'She is the queen of English cricket, isn't she? 'I spoke in a press conference months ago about how Lottie was the captain that gave me my debut cap, so it's kind of like a full-circle moment for me where one of the best English cricketers to play the game is now leading the team. 'She's so passionate about English cricket and so passionate about women's cricket. She's the biggest badger I know – she's literally watched every ball that you bowl or every ball that you face, she's really on it. She's got about seven laptops, I think, to watch all the Blast games. 'But her knowledge around the game is just phenomenal, so I think we feel really lucky that we've had a coach with that sort of experience, but also with the career that she had in the game, come in to help guide us and make us a better team, so it's been brilliant.' Edwards has work to do as she attempts to restore England's fortunes after a difficult year which has included a 16-0 Ashes whitewash, and she has vowed to make fitness one of the key elements of her regime. However, Cross revealed she has set about her task with a smile on her face. She said: 'She's not just not changed at all. She's still the same Lottie that was my captain eight or nine years ago, so it's been really lovely for me personally to have her around. 'She's just great fun as well. She's always chuckling and making you laugh, which is a really nice place to be in an international dressing room.' On the pitch, Nat Sciver-Brunt's side are still getting to grips with Edwards' philosophy, and Cross insists they need time to do that as they attempt to eradicate the failings which have cost them so dearly in recent times. She said: 'It's difficult. I know we're getting still quite a lot of press around our fielding. It's not where we want it to be and we know there's been some mistakes made in key moments. 'But hopefully if we can be judged in six months', eight months', 12 months' time when the new regime has had a chance to kind of bed in, then hopefully those comments that are made will be… not fairer, because I think the comments that were being made are quite fair at the moment. 'But you'll only then see the changes which will fit with the new regime that Lottie wants to bring in.'

Nicolas Jackson: Manchester United monitoring Chelsea forward

Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Nicolas Jackson as the forward weighs up his future after Chelsea's summer spending spree, which included the acquisition of strikers Liam Delap and João Pedro. Pedro scored three times for Chelsea having joined up with them during their victorious Club World Cup triumph after his £60million move from Brighton & Hove Albion while Delap, who joined from Ipswich Town last month for £30million, scored in the group stage win over Espérance de Tunis. Jackson failed to score in the tournament in the United States and the 24-year-old Senegalese was banned for two matches for a studs-up challenge on Flamengo defender Lucas Ayrton. Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Jackson, who cost them £32million two years ago when they bought him from Villarreal, but there is a feeling that they could end up cashing in on the player if they receive a decent offer for him, and United are among a number of interested clubs. AC Milan and Aston Villa are also monitoring events. Chelsea also spent an initial fee of £48.5million on Jamie Gittens, the winger from Borussia Dortmund, a fortnight ago. United want to bolster their attack after they scored only 44 Premier League goals last season, their worst total for a single league campaign since 1973-74 (38 goals) — when they were relegated. Jackson celebrates Chelsea's Club World Cup success, a competition in which he made one start, scored no goals and was sent off four minutes into another substitute appearance GETTY IMAGES After their signing of attacker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5million last month, United are in talks with Brentford over a deal for forward Bryan Mbeumo, who is valued at a similar price by the London club. United have so far failed to get rid of wantaway players like Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho, but they are still set to make up to about £18million from sell-on clauses in the contracts of Anthony Elanga, Maxi Oyedele and Álvaro Carreras, the latter of who joined Real Madrid in a £37million deal from Benfica on Tuesday.
