Loperfido homers as the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 8-4 for their 9th consecutive win
CHICAGO (AP) — Joey Loperfido homered and drove in three runs, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Monday night for their ninth consecutive win.
Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes also connected as AL East-leading Toronto improved to 27-10 in its last 37 games. Bo Bichette had two hits and All-Star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walked three times.
At 53-38, the Blue Jays matched the franchise record for most victories before the All-Star break. It's the longest win streak for the team since an 11-game run in August 2015.
José Berríos (5-3) pitched six innings of one-run ball, bouncing back nicely after he struggled in a no-decision against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The right-hander improved to 16-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 27 career starts against Chicago.
Mike Tauchman had three hits and two RBIs for the last-place White Sox, who won two of three at Toronto last month. Colson Montgomery, one of the team's top prospects, went 0 for 3 with a walk in his home debut.
The Blue Jays opened an 8-1 lead when they scored five times in the sixth. Barger hit a two-run drive off Sean Burke for his 12th homer, and Loperfido chopped a two-run single over a drawn-in infield.
Burke (4-8) was charged with six runs and six hits in five-plus innings. The right-hander allowed two earned runs in 16 1/3 innings over his previous three outings.

Rays trade catcher Danny Jansen to his hometown Brewers for minor league infielder
NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran catcher Danny Jansen was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to his hometown Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night for minor league infielder Jadher Areinamo. Jansen was in Tampa Bay's original lineup against the New York Yankees but was pulled about 45 minutes before the first pitch. The trade was announced shortly after the Rays ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Jansen said he found out about the deal after meeting with manager Kevin Cash and president of baseball operations Erik Neander. 'I was getting ready to play the game, and I understand that side of baseball,' Jansen said. 'Just grateful for the time spent here with the guys.' The Rays signed Jansen to an $8.5 million, one-year contract on Dec. 13. He batted .204 with 11 homers and 29 RBIs in 73 games for the Rays. Jansen grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. He is joining the NL Central leaders to serve as a backup to William Conteras, who is playing through a fractured finger. Conteras is hitting .245 with six homers and 42 RBIs in 100 games. 'I don't live too far,' Jansen said. 'That's going to be something that my wife and I had never experienced.' Jansen was moved right around the MLB trade deadline for the second straight season. Toronto dealt him to Boston on July 24, 2024, and he wound up playing for both teams in a game at Fenway Park that got suspended June 26 and resumed two months later. Quite suddenly, Baltimore's seven-run ninth-inning lead over the Blue Jays on Monday night became of secondary importance to the condition of Springer, who was essentially motionless in the dirt. Ramon Laureano and Colton Cowser also homered and Jordan Westburg joined Rutschman and Mayo with three hits. Baltimore had 16 hits in the first of four meetings between the teams across three days. Corbin Martin (1-0) was the winning pitcher with 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief. It marked his second victory in the major leagues, and his first since 2019. Bo Bichette had four hits, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Nathan Lukes each hit home runs for the Blue Jays, who've lost two games in a row for the first time since the All-Star break. The Orioles, who've won four of their last five games, tagged Toronto starter Chris Bassitt (11-5) for six runs in 2 1/3 innings. He had gone 4-0 in his first four starts in July.
