Former Endurance Racing boss Gerard Neveu takes Retromobile to New York

Yahoo03-06-2025
Gerard Neveu will steer the organizing team for the event at New York's Javits Centre from November 19-22 next year. After 25 years in the motorsport and automotive industries Neveu has an extensive contacts book and deep experience of staging international events and operating in the US market. During his decade at the helm of WEC, he laid the groundwork for the championship as it is today, with hybrid technology attracting multiple manufacturers.
Neveu was also one of the key protagonists in the convergence of regulations between the US based International Motor Sports Association (IMSA, owned by NASCAR) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO, owner of WEC and founder of the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Prior to WEC he served as the Director of Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France.
Retromobile Paris celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, and the New York show aims to capitalize on the burgeoning US classic car scene, where more than 50% of the global collectors' cars market is concentrated. Neveu's first moves in the role have been to secure 400,000 square feet in four halls in Javits Center and strike an auction partnership with Gooding Christie's.
'The concept of Retromobile is special,' says Neveu. 'You find both the biggest car collectors and vendors from all around the world at the same time, plus manufacturers and brokers. You also have a fan community attending the event, who can live out their dreams, see cars and people which may bring back precious memories. Retromobile is a celebration of all things automotive, including but not limited to, motorsport. And it is a place where you can live and share your passion for cars of all types.'
James Allen
The choice of New York, rather than the West Coast or Miami was based on a number of factors, with logistics being a key driver. 'But also because around New York you already have a huge community of car collectors and brokers,' says Neveu.
'For the inaugural show we are looking for 200-250 exhibitors (with more than 80% coming from the USA) and 50,000 – 60,000 visitors.
'The partnership with Gooding Christie's is great for the event because, with the combination of expertise from Gooding and the prestige of Christie's, we have every reason to hope for a spectacular classic car auction."
The New York event has a lot to live up to. Retromobile Paris last year attracted 146,000 visitors, of whom 19% were from outside France and 600 exhibitors with auction sales of over $125m.'I'm trying to bring my experience of managing big automotive events and make sure we will be able to offer a great and unique experience to our visitors and participants,' says Neveu. 'The big challenge facing us will be to attain the heights of the prestigious Retromobile Paris. The 50th anniversary of Retromobile next year is the perfect opportunity to export the concept of this exclusive event elsewhere for the very first time and we will do our best to deliver an event in New York with the same DNA as Paris at its core but with the vibrant American colors running right through it.'

LISTEN: Genesis fires up its Le Mans Hypercar for the first time

LISTEN: Genesis fires up its Le Mans Hypercar for the first time originally appeared on Autoblog. Crucial Milestone Achieved Genesis Magma Racing on Friday said it had achieved an important milestone in getting its GMR-001 Hypercar onto the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) grid for the 2026 season. On July 9, an engine was installed in the first GMR-001 chassis and successfully fired up, on schedule, and you can listen to it in the video below. Genesis has been running bench tests of the engine, a twin-turbocharged V8 that will be paired with a hybrid system, per WEC Hypercar-class rules, since February. That included running it through its rev range and all seven gears of the transmission, and testing it in combination with the hybrid system. But this is the first time it's run in a car. Strong Partnerships View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The fire-up took place at chassis builder Oreca's shop in Le Castellet, France, not far from Genesis Magma Racing's home base and the Paul Ricard racetrack. Hypercar rules require teams to base their cars on chassis from one of several constructors, of which Oreca is one. The team also had a soft opening of sorts at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, entering an Oreca 07 in the LMP2 class. That car (which was run by the IDEC Sport team) was driven by three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer, who has already been confirmed for a Genesis Magma Racing seat, and Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert, who are part of the team's "Trajectory" program. Genesis claims the V8 engine was designed with lessons learned from parent brand Hyundai's successful World Rally Championship (WRC) program. Cars in the top Rally1 class in which Hyundai competes have 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-fours, so Hyundai's powertrain engineers essentially combined two of those engines to make one V8. Plenty Of Work Ahead With the engine successfully fired up in a GMR-001 chassis, Genes Magma Racing is now closer to being able to start track testing, which is expected to get underway before the end of the year. "It's now when we can start physically connecting all the different strands of development work that we've been following for the last year with our powertrain and design teams," François-Xavier Demaison, the team's technical director, said in a statement. "The successful GMR-001 fire-up is confirmation of our work so far, but also the start of the next stage of the development that comes with testing." After debuting it in the 2026 WEC season—including the 24 Hours of Le Mans—Genesis hopes to bring the GMR-001 to North America for the 2027 IMSA sports-car racing series, as IMSA's LMDh ruleset aligns with the WEC's Hypercar rules. All of this racing activity will help promote Genesis' new line of Magma road cars, the first of which will be the GV60 Magma EV. Listen to Genesis' Le Mans Hypercar Roar to Life for the First Time

The latest car news, reviews, and features. Genesis has been busy assembling its racing team ahead of next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, and this week's announcement celebrates a milestone that the young team will remember forever. The Genesis Magma Racing's GMR-001 Hypercar has officially roared to life for the first time at the team's HQ at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France. According to today's announcement, the first fire-up as a complete race car (engine mounted to the chassis) took place on July 9, under the supervision of chassis supplier Oreca, which is also based in Le Castellet near the team's shop. The first fire-up of the engine alone actually took place back in February. This footage posted to YouTube shows the tension leading up to the car's first firing, which, at least on video, went without a hitch. The GMR-001 will compete in the WEC Hypercar class for the entire 2026 season, which, of course, features the most famous endurance race of all, Le Mans. It's powered by a 3.2-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, though the brand has not revealed more detailed specs. However, Genesis has not been shy about the shared technology between this engine and the 1.6-litre inline-four found in the i20 N rally car. The first rolling tests for the prototype are expected to take place next month, and sometime after that, hopefully, Genesis will tell us who will round up its driver lineup. The only two pilots confirmed so far are endurance racing veteran Pipo Derani and three-time Le Mans winner Andre Lotterer. Got a tip? Email us at tips@

Former Driver Backs Max Verstappen for IndyCar Debut

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Former IndyCar driver Arie Luyendyk has revealed that he would love to see Max Verstappen in IndyCar someday. Verstappen's Red Bull contract runs until the end of 2028, but his comments from 2021 offer a clearer picture of a move to another discipline after his Formula One career. Luyendyk, famously known as 'The Flying Dutchman', won the iconic Indianapolis 500 twice, in 1990 and 1997. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2014. Verstappen has spoken about his future after F1 on several occasions in the past. His most likely destination the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Luyendyk's statements suggest he has been following the four-time world champion closely and expressed his wish to see Verstappen competing in IndyCar. He said on The RACER Channel: Pole position qualifier Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing in the Drivers Press Conference during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 05,... Pole position qualifier Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing in the Drivers Press Conference during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 05, 2025 in Northampton, England. More"I would love to see him in an IndyCar. Yeah, he's an amazing talent. And on top of that, he's a nice guy. To me, he is." Luyendyk then praised Verstappen, comparing his radio communication with Red Bull to Lando Norris' messages with McLaren. He added: "I was watching the Brazilian race on Netflix, and there's the radio communication. And then you hear Lando on the radio, and then you hear Max, and it's like you're listening to a 12-year-old Lando and you're listening to a 30-year-old veteran Max. "So calm, so calculated. Like, 'Yeah, I can last another five minutes in this weather,' you know, and Lando was saying, 'Oh, we're all going to die,' or something like that. "He can do so much at the same time. He's a multitasking kind of guy. And I think it stems from all the racing he did as a kid in go-karting. But then the sim racing, that helps him a lot too in that – like he was following Lando somewhere, and he said he didn't slow down enough when there was a yellow out, and Lando got a penalty for that. He just sees it – the whole picture – he's got it in one nanosecond." Despite Luyendyk's inclination to see Verstappen in IndyCar, the Red Bull driver revealed in 2021 that he only preferred to watch the series, given his dislike for ovals. He said: ''I love to watch. It's of course a little bit different to F1, but I think that's also nice and makes it very interesting to watch. And from my side, I'm of course happy to be in Formula One, because I'm not personally a big fan of ovals. The street tracks and road courses are good, but nah, I would not be a big fan of oval racing myself. "It's just the risk of a big crash is big, and of course I know in Formula One there also is risk of an impact, but when you hit a certain wall with 200-plus mph, it's not enjoyable. And that risk is higher in IndyCar, and especially if you would hit someone else and you go into the fence, there are plenty of examples where it doesn't end well or you end up being really hurt. So for me, I love to watch it. I have a lot of respect for the drivers who do it, but I'm happy where I am."
