Former Endurance Racing boss Gerard Neveu takes Retromobile to New York
Gerard Neveu will steer the organizing team for the event at New York's Javits Centre from November 19-22 next year. After 25 years in the motorsport and automotive industries Neveu has an extensive contacts book and deep experience of staging international events and operating in the US market. During his decade at the helm of WEC, he laid the groundwork for the championship as it is today, with hybrid technology attracting multiple manufacturers.
Neveu was also one of the key protagonists in the convergence of regulations between the US based International Motor Sports Association (IMSA, owned by NASCAR) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO, owner of WEC and founder of the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Prior to WEC he served as the Director of Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France.
Retromobile Paris celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, and the New York show aims to capitalize on the burgeoning US classic car scene, where more than 50% of the global collectors' cars market is concentrated. Neveu's first moves in the role have been to secure 400,000 square feet in four halls in Javits Center and strike an auction partnership with Gooding Christie's.
'The concept of Retromobile is special,' says Neveu. 'You find both the biggest car collectors and vendors from all around the world at the same time, plus manufacturers and brokers. You also have a fan community attending the event, who can live out their dreams, see cars and people which may bring back precious memories. Retromobile is a celebration of all things automotive, including but not limited to, motorsport. And it is a place where you can live and share your passion for cars of all types.'
James Allen
The choice of New York, rather than the West Coast or Miami was based on a number of factors, with logistics being a key driver. 'But also because around New York you already have a huge community of car collectors and brokers,' says Neveu.
'For the inaugural show we are looking for 200-250 exhibitors (with more than 80% coming from the USA) and 50,000 – 60,000 visitors.
'The partnership with Gooding Christie's is great for the event because, with the combination of expertise from Gooding and the prestige of Christie's, we have every reason to hope for a spectacular classic car auction."
The New York event has a lot to live up to. Retromobile Paris last year attracted 146,000 visitors, of whom 19% were from outside France and 600 exhibitors with auction sales of over $125m.'I'm trying to bring my experience of managing big automotive events and make sure we will be able to offer a great and unique experience to our visitors and participants,' says Neveu. 'The big challenge facing us will be to attain the heights of the prestigious Retromobile Paris. The 50th anniversary of Retromobile next year is the perfect opportunity to export the concept of this exclusive event elsewhere for the very first time and we will do our best to deliver an event in New York with the same DNA as Paris at its core but with the vibrant American colors running right through it.'

Michelin to use 50% sustainable materials in 2026 WEC and IMSA tyres
Michelin will introduce a new range of slick tyres for the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship next year produced from 50% sustainable materials. The French tyre supplier has surpassed its original target to increase the percentage of the renewable and recycled components of the tyres used in Hypercar in WEC and GTP in IMSA from the 40% announced. Advertisement It presents an increase from the 30% of sustainables that make up the current range of tyres introduced at the start of 2023 in the world championship and the North American series in which Michelin is the sole supplier in the top class. Michelin has confirmed the introduction of the new Pilot Sport Endurance range for 2026 ahead of the start of track action for the Le Mans 24 Hours, the centrepiece round of the WEC, with the Test Day this weekend. The new range marks Michelin's first mass-volume tyre produced with such a high level of recycled and renewable materials. A total of 30,000 units will be produced each year, which contrasts with the low volumes in which tyres with similar levels of sustainables have been made for the MotoE World Cup electric motorcycle series and those used on the Mission H24 hydrogen fuel-cell demonstrators. 'At a time when our vehicles need durable equipment, racing lets us go faster and further in transferring technology from track to street. 'That is why we have launched a complete overhaul of our endurance range with a clear objective: to incorporate 50% renewable and recycled materials while increasing overall performance.' Advertisement The new range will, like the existing tyres, incorporate three specifications of slick - soft, medium and hard: Michelin brings two to the regular WEC races with all three being available for Le Mans. The aim was to produce tyres that were equal to the existing range in terms of one-lap performance, but with enhanced warm-up following the ban on tyre warmers at the start of 2023 and improved durability. Michelin has raised the prospect of a reduction in the allocation of tyres for each car over the course of a regular WEC event, which currently stands at four and a half sets or 18 tyres for a six-hour race, and higher multiples of stints on four tyres at Le Mans. Philippe Tramond, motorsport technical director at Michelin, suggested that might be possible for 2027 with the necessary rule change. Michel tested 11 new materials defined as renewable or recycled during development of its 2026 tyres and has ended up retaining seven. It also tried 14 what it called 'technical bricks' during development and is using five in the new range. Development of the 2026 WEC and IMSA tyres will conclude with a final test at Watkins Glen at the end of this month after which the specifications will be fixed before production begins in September. Advertisement The tyres will be released to the manufacturers and teams in mid-November at the time of the traditional IMSA sanction test. A new Michelin wet-weather tyre is also under development, but a date for its introduction has not be set while stocks of the existing wet are used up. The new slicks incorporate what Michelin is calling a 'micro velvet effect' that looks like a tread pattern. Michelin sportscar operations manager Pierre Alves said that this has been conceived 'to make the invisible visible'. 'There are new things inside these tyres, so what better way to show it than to have something that is visible?' Advertisement Michelin has the supply deal for the WEC's Hypercar class until the conclusion of the 2029 season. That is the current end of the lifecycle of the Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh rulesets, though it is looking increasingly certain they will be extended, with an announcement on the cards for Le Mans week. New Porsche Hypercar Teased as Modern 911 GT1 Successor
In a black-and-white YouTube video hashtagged #RACEBORN, Porsche has teased its upcoming 963 RSP, a one-off road-going version of the LMDh racecar that won races in WEC and IMSA. Back in April, Porsche hinted at an upcoming street-legal hypercar by highlighting its 1975 917 race car, which was also converted for street use. Now we know that the imminent reveal will be of the road-legal version of the 2023 963 endurance racer that won twice at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The 963 RSP is presumed to be built for Roger Seale Penske - hence the "RSP" moniker that's never been used on a Porsche before. Penske owns the team that runs Porsche's factory endurance-racing program, and is the most successful team owner in motor-racing history, winning four out of five championships in 2024 alone in the FIA WEC and IMSA seasons. The car is expected to stay true to the racer, with the same twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V8, hybrid system, and seven-speed sequential transmission. Porsche has done this before when it handcrafted a single road-legal example of the 1996 911 GT1 Le Mans racer that competed in the GT1 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans - which it called the 911 GT1 Strassenversion. The 963 RSP is similarly handcrafted, and in Porsche's teaser video, Porsche workers sand down carbon-fiber panels, mix paint, do interior stitchwork, and generally apply their specialist trades to finish the one-of-one masterpiece. With the teasers now starting, it won't be long before one of the most covetable Porsches of the modern era is revealed to the world. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
