On Sunday, Russia said it had captured the village of Piddubne in Donetsk and Sobolivka in Kharkiv.
Piddubne was home to around 500 people before the
conflict
and lies just seven kilometres (four miles) from the border of Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region.
Live Events
The Sobolivka village lies some three kilometres (two miles) west of the town of Kupiansk, outside of areas Russia claims it is holding, according to battlefield maps by the US-based Institute for the Study of War (
ISW
).
In two separate Telegram posts, the Russian defence ministry said its army units had "liberated" the settlements of Poddubnoye and Sobolevka, using Russian spellings for the localities.
The Russian military accelerated its advances for a third consecutive month in June.
Its territorial gains for that month were the biggest since November last year, according to an AFP analysis of ISW data.

‘Strongest terms': Brics declaration slams Pahalgam attack, reaffirms stand against terror
NEW DELHI: Leaders of the Brics nations on Sunday issued a strong condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in J&K's Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead. In a joint declaration following the summit in Rio de Janeiro, the leaders labelled the attack "criminal and unjustifiable" and called for united global action to root out terrorism in all its forms. "We express strong condemnation of any acts of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, whenever, wherever and by whomever committed. We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, during which 26 people were killed and many more injured," the BRICS declaration said while reaffirming the bloc's commitment to a "zero tolerance" approach to terrorism. The leaders underscored that terrorism, regardless of its motivation, origin or perpetrators, must be countered through unified international efforts. Cross-border terror, financing, and safe havens highlighted The Brics statement went further to denounce the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing, and the existence of safe havens for terrorist groups. "We reaffirm our commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing and safe havens," the statement added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The declaration emphasised that terrorism must not be linked to any religion, ethnicity, civilisation, or nationality. It also insisted that those responsible for terrorist acts and those who support them must be held accountable under both national and international law. "We reiterate that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group and that all those involved in terrorist activities and their support must be held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with relevant national and international law," it said. In a thinly veiled critique of inconsistent global responses to terrorism, the Brics leaders rejected "double standards" in counterterrorism. They emphasised the primary responsibility of nation-states to combat terrorism while urging international cooperation that respects the UN Charter, human rights law, and humanitarian law. "We urge to ensure zero tolerance for terrorism and reject double standards in countering terrorism. We emphasize the primary responsibility of States in combating terrorism and that global efforts to prevent and counter terrorist threats must fully comply with their obligations under international law, including the Charter of the United Nations, in particular the purposes and principles thereof, and relevant international conventions and protocols, in particular international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, as applicable," it said. The declaration also called for the finalisation of the long-pending Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) under the United Nations framework — a proposal India has long championed. "We welcome the activities of the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) and its five Subgroups based upon the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the BRICS Counter-Terrorism Action Plan and the CTWG position paper. We look forward to further deepening counter-terrorism cooperation. We call for an expeditious finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the UN framework. We call for concerted actions against all UN-designated terrorists and terrorist entities," it said.

Viral video: Lara Trump and Pete Hegseth seem exhausted as they train with U.S. soldiers
Source: X On July 5, 2025, a new episode of My View with Lara Trump—the Fox News show hosted by President Trump's daughter-in-law—gave viewers of what a basic training for the US military looks like as Laura Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took part in an intense training session at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. — RT_com (@RT_com) Clips shared on social media show the duo breaking a serious sweat as they powered through a series of physically demanding drills—running, squats, and even heavy lifting. Both looked visibly exhausted but stayed committed to finishing the workout alongside active-duty service members. The physical challenge was part of a larger interview segment where Laura Trump sat down with Secretary Hegseth to discuss defense priorities and his hands-on leadership style. 'You get honest feedback, which is exactly what I want,' Hegseth told Lara during their conversation. 'I want to close the gap between the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Army.' Hegseth is no stranger to training in the field. He frequently posts videos showing him exercising with soldiers, often using these moments to stay connected and gather unfiltered insights from the ranks. After the workout, Hegseth addressed the troops directly, offering heartfelt thanks for their service and commitment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Зачем на ночь сжигают лавровый лист? BJP state chief accused of ‘grabbing' minority college; party denies charge
Patna: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor and the family members of Sardar Moleswar Singh, the founder of Mata Gujri Medical (MGM) College in Kishanganj, on Sunday held a press conference at the party office here. They alleged that the BJP state president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM, a minority Sikh college, "through illegal, unlawful means and irregularities at every level". Kishor, the architect of Jan Suraj, further alleged that Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM College, where he once worked as a clerk, using various tactics over the past 25 years. "Through Kartar Singh, the son of the college's founder Sardar Moleswar Singh, he first ousted another family trustee, Gurudayal Singh, from the trust, and then pressured Kartar to leave Kishanganj," Kishor alleged. Demanding resignation of Jaiswal as the BJP chief, Kishor said the rightful ownership of the college should be given to the family of the true owner, Sardar Moleswar Singh, and considering the seriousness of the matter, BJP's state president should immediately resign from his position. He said BJP's top leader, PM Narendra Modi, should respond to this entire issue. "On one hand, BJP leaders talk about conduct and character, while on the other hand, their state president has taken control of a minority college," Kishor said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Addressing the press conference, Sardar Moleswar Singh's son, Gurudayal Singh, and daughter, Amrit Kaur, alleged that Jaiswal first deceived our father and then tricked us out of the trust. "We have been fighting this battle for many years, but no one supported us. However, Kishor has now raised the entire issue and assured us that he is with us in this fight," they said, adding, "This matter should be investigated by the CBI and ED. " Reacting over the allegations, BJP media in charge Danish Eqbal, in a written statement, said: "The allegations made by Kishor against Jaiswal are completely baseless, unfounded, and malicious. There is absolutely no truth in these accusations. It appears to be a deliberate conspiracy aimed solely at tarnishing the personal image and reputation of Jaiswal." "In the coming days, Jaiswal will address these allegations in detail through a press conference, where facts and evidence will be presented before the public. While political differences may exist, it is highly inappropriate to malign someone's credibility without any basis or proof," the BJP functionary said.
