BJP state chief accused of ‘grabbing' minority college; party denies charge

Patna: Jan Suraaj founder
Prashant Kishor
and the family members of Sardar Moleswar Singh, the founder of Mata Gujri Medical (MGM) College in Kishanganj, on Sunday held a press conference at the party office here.
They alleged that the BJP state president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM, a minority Sikh college, "through illegal, unlawful means and irregularities at every level".
Kishor, the architect of Jan Suraj, further alleged that Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM College, where he once worked as a clerk, using various tactics over the past 25 years.
"Through Kartar Singh, the son of the college's founder Sardar Moleswar Singh, he first ousted another family trustee, Gurudayal Singh, from the trust, and then pressured Kartar to leave Kishanganj," Kishor alleged.
Demanding resignation of Jaiswal as the BJP chief, Kishor said the rightful ownership of the college should be given to the family of the true owner, Sardar Moleswar Singh, and considering the seriousness of the matter, BJP's state president should immediately resign from his position.
He said BJP's top leader, PM Narendra Modi, should respond to this entire issue. "On one hand, BJP leaders talk about conduct and character, while on the other hand, their state president has taken control of a minority college," Kishor said.

Addressing the press conference, Sardar Moleswar Singh's son, Gurudayal Singh, and daughter, Amrit Kaur, alleged that Jaiswal first deceived our father and then tricked us out of the trust. "We have been fighting this battle for many years, but no one supported us. However, Kishor has now raised the entire issue and assured us that he is with us in this fight," they said, adding, "This matter should be investigated by the CBI and ED.
"
Reacting over the allegations, BJP media in charge Danish Eqbal, in a written statement, said: "The allegations made by Kishor against Jaiswal are completely baseless, unfounded, and malicious. There is absolutely no truth in these accusations. It appears to be a deliberate conspiracy aimed solely at tarnishing the personal image and reputation of Jaiswal."
"In the coming days, Jaiswal will address these allegations in detail through a press conference, where facts and evidence will be presented before the public. While political differences may exist, it is highly inappropriate to malign someone's credibility without any basis or proof," the BJP functionary said.

Over 20 states sue Trump administration over education funds freeze; after-school programs in jeopardy, GOP districts among worst hit

Over 20 states sue Trump administration over education funds freeze (Image credits: AP) More than 20 states have sued the Donald Trump administration over its decision to freeze over $6 billion in federal education grants, including funds for after-school and summer programs that serve low-income families across the country. The funding freeze has especially hit Republican-led areas. According to an analysis by the left-leaning think tank New America, 91 of the 100 school districts that receive the most money from the affected grant programs are in Republican congressional districts. Half of those districts are in California, West Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. Among the programs at risk is the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative, which provides free academic support, enrichment, and child care for 1.4 million children at places like the Boys & Girls Clubs, the YMCA, and public schools. The Trump administration says the freeze is to ensure that the programs receiving funds align with the president's priorities. The Office of Management and Budget has cited concerns about support for undocumented immigrants and LGBTQ+ inclusion. In the meantime, programs around the country are struggling to stay open. In Rhode Island, the state stepped in with emergency funds to keep summer camps running. But leaders at the Boys & Girls Club of America warn that without federal money soon, some of their 926 clubs could begin shutting down in the next few weeks. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The YMCA and Save the Children also report that many of their centers are at risk of closing. 'Time is of the essence,' said Christy Gleason of Save the Children Action Network. Her group supports after-school programming in 41 rural schools across Washington state and the South, where schools start as early as August. Even some Republican officials are voicing concern. Georgia schools superintendent Richard Woods, a Republican, said, 'I deeply believe in fiscal responsibility, which means evaluating the use of funds and seeking out efficiencies, but also means being responsible — releasing funds already approved by Congress and signed by President Trump," While some remain hopeful that the administration will eventually release the funds, others worry that delays will leave working families without support and children without safe, enriching environments after school. 'It's not too late to make a decision so the kids who really need this still have it,' Gleason said as quoted by AP.

State has failed to deal with drugs, corruption & unaccounted cash: Supriya

Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Monday said she would draw attention of the Centre towards drugs menace, corruption and unaccounted cash in Maharashtra because state govt was not serious about these. "These issues must be highlighted at the Union govt-level because the state has failed to resolve them. I will do it in Parliament if the state does not give justice in such matters," Sule, the NCP (SP) working president, told reporters after visiting the Sinhagad Road area, facing major traffic congestions of late. According to Sule, the cash allegedly found in the residence of a state minister would have disheartened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram — the proponents of cashless economy and digital payment systems. She said it was worrisome for the nation if cash was found at the state-level when the Union govt was trying to focus on digitisation. If a bagful of cash is found on such a large scale, an inquiry should be carried out about what happened to the demonetisation," she said. Sule said if the state decided to fight against drugs, her party would join it. The govt was not doing enough to bring down the menace of drug addiction despite repeated letters to the state to deal with this problem, she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The Baramati MP termed the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against her nephew, MLA Rohit Pawar, "vendetta politics". The ED named Rohit in the chargesheet related to the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Limited, owned by Rohit and his family members. Sule said Rohit's name was not there in the first list of accused. Most of those in the first list joined BJP, she said. "Names of the original accused have been removed from the list and a new list has been prepared, which features Rohit. He (Rohit) is in the opposition party and raising his voice against the corruption of the govt," she said. According to Sule, the act of some Congress leaders from Pune joining BJP shows that the latter has no option but to induct them because they are talented. "BJP had made an announcement to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat' (India Congress-free). But now, most of the Congress leaders are joining BJP," she said. Sule also condemned the manhandling and thrashing of Praveen Gaikwad of Sambhaji Brigade. "Such attacks are a shame for the cultured state like Maharashtra. It is shocking that action has not been taken against the attackers despite having a criminal background," she said. The Baramati MP also said she was not aware of the resignation of Jayant Patil, the state unit chief of NCP (SP).

ECI trying to replicate ‘SIR' in other States, alleges CPI(M) leader

CPI(M) Politburo member B.V. Raghavulu on Monday alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) facilitated a backdoor citizenship registration process under the guise of voter enrolment in Bihar and sent letters to other States to replicate it even as the Supreme Court was looking into the matter. Addressing the media here on Monday (July 14), Mr. Raghavulu said that the Special Identification Register (SIR) in Bihar was not supposed to ascertain the citizenship of people. He further alleged that the SIR process was clearly biased towards the BJP as the ECI pushed for a Bihar-style SIR in other States even before the apex court hearing on July 28. U.S. tariffs Mr. Raghavulu also alleged that the Indian government yielded to pressure mounted by the U.S. government during the tariff negotiations. The tariffs which were likely to be in the 23%–25% range, despite the claims of a tough stand by the Indian government, would cause grave injustice to the farmers. Import of Genetically Modified (GM) wheat, corn, soy, and dairy products would harm 80 million dairy farmers in the country. The government kept quiet when U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on steel, and high tariffs on some other items/commodities, he added. Mr. Raghavulu alleged that the government made secret deals for purchase of Boeing aircraft, helicopters, and nuclear reactors from the U.S. Reacting to A.P. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's comments on Hindi language, Mr. Raghavulu said that all languages were equal under the Constitution, and Hindi should not be imposed on someone. Mr. Kalyan is submissive to the BJP in this regard and his stand thereof is contradictory with the line taken by him earlier, the CPI(M) leader added.
