Nebraska makes top five for 2026 four-star linebacker
Nebraska football made the top five on Thursday for 2026 four-star linebacker Calvin Thomas. Thomas made the announcement on social media.
The Texas Longhorns, North Carolina Tar Heels, Michigan Wolverines, and SMU Mustangs also made his top five in addition to the Huskers. Thomas is the 42nd overall player in the state of Texas and the 22nd overall player in his position for the 2026 class per Rivals rankings.
He has 34 offers in total, including some from Big Ten schools. Michigan, Illinois, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Wisconsin have offered him in addition to the Huskers. He most recently received an offer from Syracuse on June 3.
The dynamic linebacker recorded 69 tackles, seven sacks, and an interception last season for Cyprus Ranch High School, according to statistics from MaxPreps.com.
The Huskers have some work to do in the 2026 class. The class currently ranks 62nd overall with four total commitments per Rivals Team Rankings. There are currently several visits set up for this month, it will be interesting to see what this class looks like at the end of June.
For now, Nebraska is in good company for Thomas. He would be a playmaking linebacker, and also a solid fit in John Butler's defense.

ChatGPT AI-driven NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery

ChatGPT AI-driven NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery ChatGPT AI is predicting Jase Richardson to land just outside the lottery in the upcoming NBA Draft. USA TODAY Sports released their latest NBA Mock Draft driven by ChatGPT AI, and Richardson landed right about where most human draft experts are predicting. The computer model had Richardson going No. 17 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Richardson starred for the Spartans during his lone season in college, playing a massive part in Michigan State winning the Big Ten and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Richardson averaged 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which raised his draft stock to where it was a no-brainer to enter the NBA Draft and leave after just one year. Richardson has been commonly mocked to land anywhere from late lottery pick to late first round pick. Most of the recent mock drafts I've came across have him landing just outside the lottery like we saw here from USA TODAY Sports' ChatGPT AI mock draft. The NBA Draft will be held on July 25 and 26 in Brooklyn. The draft will be televised on ABC and ESPN. Notre Dame is not on Claude Mpouma's top-five list

Notre Dame is not on Claude Mpouma's top-five list The Fighting Irish appear to be missing out on top o-line prospect Four-star offensive line prospect Claude Mpouma has a top-five list for his potential school choices, and Notre Dame isn't on it. This despite the Fighting Irish making him an offer as they try to deepen ties with his high school -- Mount Carmel in Chicago The 6-foot-8, 305-pound Mpouma's list includes Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Florida and Auburn. That's a blow for Notre Dame, which has built its recent success around offensive line play. The Irish could always use another four-star recruit. The Mount Carmel Caravan is often one of the strongest teams in Illinois, so it's likely that Notre Dame will keep trying to recruit players from the school. But it looks like head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have missed out on Mpouma. Sean Payton Reveals Plan for Broncos' Rookie CB Jahdae Barron

Sean Payton Reveals Plan for Broncos' Rookie CB Jahdae Barron originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On April 24, 2025, the Denver Broncos did something they had done only one other time in the past decade – use a first-round pick on a defensive back. Advertisement The Broncos possessed the No. 20 overall pick in the latest edition of the NFL Draft, and they used it to select Jahdae Barron, a two-year starter in Texas' secondary. The last time the franchise made a similar transaction was in 2021, when they drafted 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II. During the team's rookie minicamp and OTAs, Barron has played as both an inside and outside cornerback, and he has sometimes appeared in the slot. While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Broncos head coach Sean Payton confirmed his plan to have Barron occupy a versatile role in the team's secondary. "He's extremely smart, and he played both at Texas. His instincts are real, real high, so you can give him more than, maybe, some other younger player at the same position," Payton said. "Some guys, you might say, 'Hey, let's leave just him at left corner or right corner before we do it.' He's one of those players that can handle volume." Denver Broncos cornerback Jahdae Barron (12) during rookie minicamp at Broncos Park Powered by Chenoy-Imagn Images Even though Payton plans to play Barron at both inside and outside cornerback, he does not anticipate adding reps at safety to Barron's repertoire so early in his professional career. Payton used Malcolm Jenkins, a since-retired cornerback who debuted during Payton's head coaching tenure with the New Orleans Saints, as a foil to Barron. Advertisement "I don't have the same vision that I did for Malcolm. Malcolm came in in '09, played nickel and then went to safety," Payton said. "Now, I'm not saying he couldn't in a pinch, but the vision for him is corner, inside and outside." Barron was the first defensive back taken off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft, a fitting accolade after he won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the top defensive back in college football. His final season with the Longhorns in 2024 also included consensus All-American nominations, a spot on the All-SEC First Team and a trip to the College Football Playoff.
