Sarita Vihar flyover repair work in Delhi to finally begin tomorrow; know about alternate routes, details inside

Those travelling to and from Southeast Delhi and beyond will have to brace for traffic disruption as the Sarita Vihar flyover repair works will begin from Friday. Owing to the repair work, the Sarita Vihar flyover will remain partially closed till August 8. Commuters travelling from Badarpur and Faridabad towards South Delhi will suffer the most. Residents of Sarita Vihar, Ohkla, and Govindpuri, too, will face the brunt.
Kalindi Kunj roads and the Sarita Vihar flyover had recently faced heavy traffic congestion owing to the Kanwar Yatra.
Since 2023, talks of the repair work have been going on, but it never started owing to one reason or the other. In October last year, the traffic police had shared an advisory, but despite that, the repair work never saw the light of day owing to some issues with the contractor and the previous government.
Finally, the Public Works Department (PWD) will undertake repair work from Friday. During this period, half of the carriageway will remain closed for vehicular movement, while the other half will remain operational round the clock to ensure partial traffic flow.
The Delhi Traffic Police also issued an advisory on Thursday morning asking commuters to make prior arrangements and plan their journey in advance.
Vehicles coming from Badarpur border and heading towards Ashram via Mathura Road may use the following alternate routes:
Route 1 – Badarpur border-MB Road-Pul Prahladpur-Lal Kuan-Right towards Maa Anandmai marg-crown plaza-Govindpuri-Right turn towards Modi mill flyover-Left turn for Mathura road towards Ashram.
Route 2 – Use slip road adjacent to Sarita Vihar flyover-Left turn for Okhla, right turn at Crown plaza-Maa Anandmai marg-Govindpuri-Right turn towards Modi mill flyover-left turn for Mathura road towards Ashram.
Traffic officials said movement of heavy and commercial vehicles on Mathura Road from Badarpur towards Sarita Vihar flyover will be restricted.

Monsoon Havoc In Himachal: 147 Lives Lost, 235 Roads Blocked

Shimla: Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Himachal Pradesh, disrupting public utilities and causing widespread damage. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 235 roads remain blocked, along with 56 power distribution transformers and 139 water supply schemes, as of Friday morning. The cumulative death count during this monsoon season has risen to 147, with 79 people killed in rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, and 68 losing their lives in road accidents, SDMA reported. District-wise, Mandi is the worst-hit, with 144 road blockages, followed by Kullu (58 roads) and Kangra (11 roads). National Highway 70 (NH-70) remains closed between Mandi and Kotali due to heavy landslides. Water supply disruptions are severe in Mandi (65 schemes) and Kangra (59 schemes). The report also noted significant losses to agriculture, horticulture, and infrastructure, with damage to public property exceeding Rs 1,38,753 lakh since June 20. Rescue and restoration efforts are underway across the state, but persistent rainfall continues to impede operations. SDMA, in its cumulative report released on Thursday, stated that essential services have also been disrupted. A total of 173 water supply schemes are currently non-operational, particularly in Mandi, Kullu, and Sirmaur districts. Additionally, the power supply remains disrupted in 56 areas due to damage to distribution transformers. Restoration work is underway on a war footing by teams from the Public Works Department and the National Highways Authority. Authorities continue to caution residents against travel in vulnerable areas, warning that persistent heavy rains may trigger further landslides and flash floods in the coming days. Commuters and residents in vulnerable areas are advised to stay alert and avoid non-essential travel.

Delhi-Noida Traffic To Be Hit As Sarita Vihar Flyover Partially Closed

Last Updated: PWD to resume repair work on the Sarita Vihar flyover from Friday, leading to partial closure till August 8, likely causing heavy traffic from south-east Delhi, Noida, Faridabad The Public Works Department (PWD) will resume repair work on the Sarita Vihar flyover from Friday, resulting in its partial closure until August 8. The flyover's closure is expected to impact traffic from south-east Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad. Consequently, Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory detailing traffic restrictions and alternative routes for commuters. PWD officials announced that the carriageway from Badarpur to Ashram will be closed for repairs. The department had initially started long-pending repair work in October 2024, but it was suspended midway due to rising pollution levels and the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to control dust pollution in Delhi-NCR. To manage traffic during the closure, at least 50 additional police personnel have been deployed on the flyover. A senior PWD official stated, 'The repair work was delayed due to elections, the model code of conduct, and weather conditions. Fresh permissions were also required for traffic restrictions." The Sarita Vihar flyover, located on Mathura Road, connects Delhi to Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Faridabad (Haryana), and parts of south-east Delhi. This is the first time in 24 years that the flyover will undergo major repairs. The PWD initially planned to start repair work in 2023. However, it faced repeated delays due to various reasons, including the untimely publication of traffic diversion notices in newspapers, which led to the withdrawal of traffic police approval. Other factors like the Lok Sabha elections, Kanwar Yatra, and rising pollution levels also contributed to the postponements. Traffic Advisory & Alternative Routes According to traffic police, commuters travelling from Badarpur in south-east Delhi towards South Delhi and Faridabad will likely face congestion near Mathura Road. Areas like Sarita Vihar, New Friends Colony, Okhla, and Govindpuri may experience long traffic jams. The route from Badarpur to Ashram via the flyover will remain closed. Police have urged people to avoid the affected stretch and use the following alternative routes: Alternative Route 1: Commuters from Badarpur can take MB Road towards Pul Prahladpur and Lal Kuan, turn right towards Maa Anandmayi Marg, Crown Plaza, Govindpuri, and then use Modi Mill flyover to reach Mathura Road and the Ashram. Alternative Route 2: Travellers can also use the slip road adjacent to the Sarita Vihar flyover, turn left towards Okhla, go through Crown Plaza and Govindpuri, and then take a right turn at Modi Mill flyover to reach Mathura Road. Expect Heavy Congestion Traffic police officials added that the movement of heavy and commercial vehicles will be restricted on Mathura Road between Badarpur and the Sarita Vihar flyover. For the past week, traffic has already been disrupted in Kalindi Kunj, Mathura Road, and Sarita Vihar due to restrictions in place for the Kanwar Yatra. With the repair work now resuming, traffic congestion in these areas is expected to worsen over the next two weeks. Which state leads in running the most Vande Bharat trains? A lively and familiar scene can be observed at a railway station – sellers walking up and down the coaches carrying trays, or carts with an assortment of knick-knacks and refreshments. While walking between aisles, they add to the sound of the train with loud and rhythmic voices, 'Chai, chai!' and on the aisle, they ask passengers to sip on a hot cup of tea. Along with tea, they have biscuits, chips, peanuts, samosas, and other local food items.
