ESPN, Fox team up for bundled streaming service in October
Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Disney's ESPN and Fox Corp. on Monday announced the two rivals are joining forces to offer a streaming service to consumers as a bundle for $39 per month. The two media giants announced the service but last week ESPN and Fox each announced separate all-in-one streaming apps. The services can be downloaded on devices, including cellphones and tablets, and can be accessed on smart TVs and gaming consoles. With viewership declining on TV, including cable, media companies have turned to streaming services as a way to boost viewership and revenue. CNBC reported that sports is a way to accomplish this. Last week, both companies announced their services -- ESPN's Direct to Consumer Unlimited Offering and Fox One -- will launch on Aug. 21 before the college football and NFL seasons. But the bundle won't be available until October. ESPN's separate service will cost $29.99 month and Fox's will be $19.99. Also, ESPN will offer a bundle with Disney's other streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu, for $35.99 per month. Besides events, both companies present sports news. The ESPN service will include live sports and programming from its TV networks, including ESPN2, the SEC Network, the ACC Network, as well as Disney-owned ABC. ESPN also reached an agreement last week with the NFL to acquire the NFL Network, including the Red Zone. And ESPN last week signed a deal with the WWW for U.S. rights in 2026 to its biggest wrestling events, including WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam. In all, ESPN/ABC cover 47,000 live events each year, as well as studio shows and original programming. ESPN and ABC sports include Monday Night Football, college football and basketball, NHL, NBA, Major League Soccer, golf, tennis and motorsports. In addition, an enhanced app will integrate game statistics, betting information, fantasy sports, multi-view options and a "personalize SportsCenter For You," the company said. Fox's parent company offers Tubi and Fox Nation. Fox's sports networks include FS1, FS2 and the Big Ten Network. The company said Fox One won't have original content. Last week, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch and Disney CEO Bob Iger said during earnings calls that they were considering offering bundle services. Fox Sports' coverage includes NFL, college football and basketball, Major League Baseball, FIFA World Cup, Major League Soccer, motorsports, WNBA, LIV Golf and boxing. Three other media companies offer sports: Comcast's NBC, Warner Bros. Discovery's TNT and Paramount Skydance's CBS. NBC, which has the rights to the Olympics, has Peacock streaming, and CBS offers Paramount+, services that include sports. TNT doesn't have a specific app but its services can be bundles with other apps. On Monday, Paramount announced plans to televise UFC events starting next year.

The one he does know — Benjamin, now 18 — has multiple allergies and an extremely limited diet, which has long dictated the family's eating habits. 'Benjamin is allergic to peanuts and shellfish,' the man wrote, adding that the allergy is just part of the challenge. 'On top of that him and Kathleen are very picky eaters.' He recalled how meals were always restricted when he lived with them. 'His diet when I lived there consisted of pizza, fries and burgers and beef and cheese tacos,' he shared. 'He didn't eat fruits or vegetables. He didn't eat any meat except for beef.' Kathleen, too, has a long list of dislikes. 'I can't remember all the stuff she wouldn't eat but it included any kind of fish, any kind of potato, rice, pasta, bread and stuff like that," the Redditor wrote, noting that this limited nearly every family meal to just a few fast food spots. Ordering takeout or dining out as a family became an exhausting routine. 'The food was never great but could've been worse,' he added. 'I think the part that sucked was every time we ordered out for my birthday or went out for my birthday it was one of the two places we had.' Even simple options like tacos were difficult to manage. 'A taco place was out unless they'd remove all veggies and extras except for the meat and cheese,' he recalled. 'And some places still put 'gross s---' to quote Benjamin on them when they did seemingly comply.' As he grew older, he began skipping their 'family meals,' tired of being forced into their limited choices. 'Anytime still they want to do a family meal out they expect us all to go to their chosen fast food places that work for Benjamin and Kathleen,' he explained. 'And I'm tired of dealing with them.' This year, for his birthday, he decided to do things differently. 'A few weeks ago I had a birthday dinner with my girlfriend and some family and friends,' he wrote. 'Dad wanted to come and he expected Kathleen and Benjamin to be invited too.' The poster made it clear that they were welcome—as long as they were willing to eat at the restaurant he picked. 'I told him that was okay if they'd eat where I had chosen,' he shared. But soon after, he was met with resistance. 'I got an email from Kathleen and calls from dad where I was told my restaurant of choice did not meet the needs and requirements of Benjamin and Kathleen," the Redditor explained. The pair even suggested that he and his guests travel out of state for a more suitable dining option for them. His response was firm. 'Kathleen sent another email asking why I was being so hostile like her daughter and I should care about my family's health and interests,' he noted. The message struck a nerve, especially since he's never even met her daughter. Tensions rose further when his dad and Kathleen learned that other members of his dad's family traveled to join the birthday celebration. 'Dad and Kathleen were more upset to learn some of dad's side flew out to join us for dinner when they typically won't accept plans from them to eat out," the original poster continued. Now, he said, he's facing even more backlash for simply choosing a restaurant he liked. 'So now I'm facing more of their anger for my choice of restaurant,' he shared. But as he turns to Reddit to ask if he's in the wrong, the support he receives is clear. Bruce Springsteen biopic to premiere at NY Film Festival NEW YORK — Bruce Springsteen will bless New York City with an early look at his upcoming biopic, 'Deliver Me From Nowhere.' The 2025 New York Film Festival announced Monday that the film, starring Jeremy Allen White as the New Jersey rocker, will be its Spotlight Gala selection, premiering Sept. 28 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The Boss is expected to attend the screening, along with director and writer Scott Cooper, and the film's stars, including Jeremy Strong, who plays his manager and record producer Jon Landau, and Odessa Young, who stars as Springsteen's love interest Faye. Officially titled 'Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,' the 20th Century Studios musical drama centers on the making of Springsteen's sixth album, 'Nebraska,' in 1982. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in his New Jersey bedroom and without The E Street Band, the folksy solo outing — released before the mega-selling 'Born in the U.S.A.' — is ranked among Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Adapted from Warren Zanes' book of the same title, the film also stars Stephen Graham, Paul Walter Hauser and Gaby Hoffmann. New York Film Festival's artistic director Dennis Lim called the movie a 'fitting tribute to a living legend' in Monday's announcement. But for his latest role, the Brooklyn-born Calvin Klein underwear model endured more pressure for portraying the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. 'Getting that out, it was so much pressure,' the actor told Jimmy Fallon on 'The Tonight Show' in June. 'You're playing a real person — nevermind Bruce Springsteen — and I was really touched [when] the trailer came out. I had more texts than when I blacked out and won that Golden Globe (for The Bear).' 'I didn't realize trailers were that big of a thing,' he added. 'Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere' is expected to hit theaters Oct. 24. _______
