Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders: Members get a 400% pay raise

Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders: Members get a 400% pay raise

It was revealed on the Netflix series "America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders" when member Megan McElaney, a four-year veteran from Oceanside, California, mentioned the increase.
"Our efforts were heard and they wanted to give us a raise," McElaney said, via the Associated Press. "And we ended up getting a 400% increase, which is like, life-changing."
In 2019, the group fought for a raise in game rates, which doubled from $200 to $400 at the time. Former member Kristin Westbrook took to Instagram, where she revealed some of the pay structure.
"When I was on the team, it was: hourly for practice [of] $15/hour," she wrote on her Instagram Stories on Saturday June 21, via US Weekly. She added that members would also get "flat fees" for various other performances.
"Flat fee for appearances - $100 (x # of years on the team)," Westbrook added, pointing out that a rookie would make $100, while a second-year veteran would earn $200 and so on.
Veterans and rookies are on different pay scales, with the former earning more money with more experience. The El Paso Times noted that "a veteran will see her pay increase from a reported $15 per hour to $60 per hour, and there will be many appearances by the team outside of game days."
Salaries are not disclosed, but reports indicate that a veteran will make around $150,000 per year. Even though they received an increase in compensation, the group still does not receive health insurance from the team.
Former cheerleader, Jada McLean, told the New York Times in an interview that she made $15 an hour and $500 for each appearance in 2024. It's been a long battle for raises from cheerleaders, who have cited concerns dealing with financial stress in recent years.
They are a key component of the game day experience for many teams, giving them a unique position to negotiate from. Now that the Cowboys cheerleaders have received their raise, the hope is that the new deal will provide some financial security that was previously lacking under the old compensation package.
In December 2024, Forbes listed the Cowboys as the most valuable franchise in sports at $10.1 billion. It appears their cheerleaders are now going to be paid like it.

The mum of five sparked a wave of comments online after she shared snaps from her stunning getaway. But she was cruelly shamed for her latest big-bucks trip as fans claimed the star was "seriously smug" and "out of touch." They called out the pricey nature of their trip to the Regnum Carya in Antalya, which cost £30K a week for the family. It sits perched on a beach with crystal clear sands and an idyllic pier, and rooms start from around £1,000 per person per night. Stacey had described the plush resort in Antalya as her "second home" in an Instagram post. This prompted one fan to comment: "So another well subsidised holiday for the entire family. It makes me throw up." Another added: "The seriously smug family." A third penned: "Annoying family." After landing home, Stacey addressed the backlash, insisting that the claims were not true and it wasn't a "free holiday." Taking to her Instagram stories, she wrote: "Now we're going home I've tagged the hotel for all of you asking & I'll share my little "spend the day with us" and show you around everywhere. Stacey Solomon hits back at cruel troll who branded her a 'horse mouth' "This is the third time I've come back here. This wasn't a free holiday. I just love this place so much & think it deserves the BEST reviews & tags ever because it's just incredible. "It is very expensive. I do think it is worth every penny & more for what it has to offer." The couple have a blended family of six children. They share three kids together – Rex, six, Rose, three, and Belle, two – while Stacey is also mum to Zachary, 17, and Leighton, 12, and Joe has 18-year-old son Harry with his ex Emma Sophocleous. Stacey Solomon's career so far Stacey Solomon has been a familiar face on viewers' screens for over a decade. Let's take a look back at her career. The X Factor (2009): Stacey competed in series six of long-running ITV singing competition The X Factor. During her time in the show, she was mentored by Danni Minogue in the 'Girls' category. The star finished in third place, behind Joe McElderry and Olly Murs. I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here (2010); In late 2010, Stacey headed to the infamous I'm A Celeb Aussie jungle. After 21 days, she triumphed to win the tenth series. It was through I'm A Celeb that she met future husband Joe Swash - who'd won two years earlier and was hosting the ITV2 spinoff. Celebrity Juice (2011―2013, 2016―2019): The star appeared as a panellist on 21 episodes of the comedy panel game show hosted by Keith Lemon. Stacey was a regular in the 21st series, broadcast in 2019. Loose Women (2016 - present): Stacey has been a permanent panel member of the daytime show since 2016. She previously made guest appearances in 2011 and 2012. Sort Your Life Out (2022 -present): This BBC show sees Stacey, with the help of an expert team, transform participants' living spaces after removing clutter. Fans had previously quizzed why Joe's son wasn't present on the trip. One fan wrote: "Lovely family pic. Wish Joe eldest son was included more." While another added: "Why is Joe's eldest son never with them." This person said: "I agree would be nice for them to acknowledge they're missing one!" Their holiday comes after it was reported how Stacey and Joe have made a "vow" amid "silly bickering", according to a source. It comes after "tension" between the popular couple has recently been captured on TV. However, according to a source, the couple have vowed to take time out to remember why they're so good for each other. During their BBC reality show, the pair shared a close-up look into the ups and downs of life at Pickle Cottage and their relationship. The source told New Magazine: 'There's tension in the air and there is a bit of bickering. But it puts a strain on any relationship. "You look at those on reality shows, such as the wives in The Real Housewives, with cameras in their houses 24/7, and a lot of their relationships crack under the pressure.' Despite this, the source maintained that a break away from the cameras, however small, is just what Stacey and Joe need. The source added: 'They're worried that if they don't have a break from the cameras and the limelight, it could affect what makes their relationship special. 'They're still very much in love and are really trying to focus on each other amid the silly bickering and moments of tension, and remember why they got together in the first place – and why they're actually so perfect together. "They have vowed to carve out some quality time this summer to do that." 7 Stacey insisted that she paid for her family holiday Credit: Instagram 7 The star shared snaps of her blended family on social media Credit: Instagram 7 Some fans wondered where Joe's son Harry was Credit: Instagram

Fans were absolutely thrilled to hear the news, and wished the young actor the best of luck in his new role. Daniel Lomax is the son of Leela Lomax and Louis Loveday, and has been played by various actors in the past. Before Sebastien stepped into the role, Daniel was played by Kyzo-Dre Murphy in 2017-2020, and 2023-2024. Before this, Beau Bell took on the role in 2017. The Chester-based soap is pulling out all the stops for its milestone year, with bosses promising some of the most dramatic storylines in its history. Fans will be left gutted as one popular character bows out in emotional scenes. But it's not all bad news, as two familiar faces from the show's early days are making a surprise comeback three decades later. Shock moment Hollyoaks icon returns to soap after a year off screen and there's a twist Producers are keeping tight-lipped on the finer details, but teased that the anniversary will be packed with nostalgia, shock twists and plenty of drama that long-time viewers won't want to miss. SHOCK EXIT The soap has teased another shock exit of a major character as it gears up for its 30th anniversary celebrations. This comes after a string of grisly deaths at the hands of village serial killer Jez Blake. From Hollyoaks to Hollywood James Corden played a caretaker in the early days of the soap. The former American TV host doesn't have much positive to say about his time on the soap, claiming it was "hell on earth." Since his short-lived time on the show he has gone on to bigger things including smash hit comedy Gavin and Stacey. Rachel Shenton joined the soap as aspiring glamour model Mitzeee Minniver in 2010. Over two years her character was sent to prison, got pregnant and had a number of romantic affairs. Since leaving Hollyoaks she has won an Oscar for best live action short film, The Silent Child. Rachel has also starred in White Gold and All Creatures Great and Small Emmett J. Scanlan played gangster turned anti-hero Brendan Brady. Emmett played the love interest of Steve Hayes, with their romance delighting fans until it turned violent. Since his departure Emmett has appeared in Peaky Blinders, The Fall, Gangs of London and even appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Emma Rigby joined Hollyoaks when she was 15 as Hannah Ahsworth. Hannah's eating disorder storyline was the first of it's kind on TV while other plots included being caught in a fire, gangland drug dealing and running away. Since leaving the soap in 2010 Emma has gone on to star in ABCs Once Upon a Time in Wonderland as the Red Queen. Other roles include guest appearances in Death In Paradise, Ripper Street and Fresh Meat Nico Mirallegro got his big break with Hollyoaks starring as emo Barry 'Newt' Newton. Nico's main storyline in the soap was developing schizophrenia which culminated in a suicide pact. He left the soap in 2010 and went on to star in My Mad Fat Diary, Our Girl, Rillington Place, The Ark and Common, Penance, as well as the Mike Leigh movie Peterloo and was nominated for a Bafta for his role in period drama The Village. Ricky Whittle used Hollyoaks as a stepping stone to break America. He played one of the soap's resident hunks, Calvin Valentine, from 2006 to 2011 - when he was killed off at his wedding. After leaving the soap Ricky cracked America starring in teen drama The 100 and America Gods. He also appeared in Strictly Come Dancing in 2009. Warren Brown joined Hollyoaks in 2005 for a year as evil Andy Holt. His stint on the show consisted of date rape storylines and a crime spree, before eventually being killed off. After leaving Hollyoaks, Warren became a big hitter in TV playing DS Justin Ripley in Luther, as well as major roles in a number of dramas including Liar, The Responder, Homefront and Good Cop. Wallis Day played Holly Cunningham in the soap for years before leaving. In 2021 Wallis won the role of Batwoman in DC's series, taking over from Ruby Rose. Viewers have already seen Jez take the lives of Dennis Savage, Dilly Harcourt, Tommy Odenkirk, Joel Dexter, Bobby McQueen and Robbie Roscoe. His daughter, Sienna Blake, recently discovered his trophies, along with Robbie's body, in his allotment. When she confronted him, Jez explained that he gets a thrill from killing and that she is the same. As soon as Sienna ran to tell the world about her dad, a fatal fall and injury left Jez convinced she had lost her memory, when in reality, she was pretending. Is she plotting to expose him for good? Meanwhile, the soap revealed there will be another shock departure this autumn. Will Jez kill again, or will someone leave the village and escape him? Fans are convinced it is a long-serving male character, like Tony Hutchinson or John Paul McQueen or Jack Osbourne, that could be leaving the village for good. TWO RETURNS Hollyoaks has also teased a return of two characters from the 90s. Their identities are kept under wraps for now - but fans are all thinking the same thing. Taking to Reddit, one fan wrote: "If it's from the true original bunch, it must be Kurt and Jambo." Another agreed: "I could see it being Kurt or Jambo, after Kurt came back for the 25th." A third added: "I know the actor for Kurt is keen to come back." Kurt Benson, played by Jeremy Edwards, was one of Hollyoaks' original heartthrobs when the soap launched back in 1995. Known for his cheeky charm and on-off romance with Ruth Osborne, he was also best mates with Tony Hutchinson. His shock 'death' in a jet ski accident in 1999 was one of the soap's first big tragedies - though he later made a ghostly reappearance in 2013. Jambo Bolton, portrayed by Will Mellor, was another founding character and provided much of the show's early comedy. Famous for his laddish humour, hopeless romantic streak and daft schemes, he was also the first character ever seen on Hollyoaks' opening episode. Jambo left in 1998 to start a new life in London, but he too has popped back for special occasions, most memorably in the 2004 anniversary episode. FAN SURPRISE In a soap first, Hollyoaks is giving one lucky fan the chance to appear in a special episode – only to be killed off by serial killer Jez himself. The unique competition asked viewers to pitch why they're the ultimate superfan and deserve to be part of the dramatic 30th anniversary storyline. With scripts already written and filming underway, fans won't have long to wait to see how the shocking plot unfolds. Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday at 7pm on E4 and YouTube. 4 Daniel Lomax is the son of Leela Lomax and Louis Loveday, and has been played by various actors in the past Credit: WikiFandom

How the US army is using influencers to recruit a new generation: ‘Promise them this idea of stability'

Fitness influencer Steven Kelly posted a carousel of photos on Instagram last month that included shots of himself dressed in military fatigues climbing a rope wall and aiming a firearm. Kelly, who has 1.3 million followers on the platform, isn't enlisted in any military branch – instead it was a sponsored post created in partnership with the US army. 'This experience showed me how the Army builds readiness, resilience, and discipline,' the caption said, as Kelly described the experience of taking part in basic training exercises. The post pointed followers to a link in his bio to learn more about the US army's opportunities. Kelly is just one of a number of influencers who are creating sponsored content as part of a new initiative by the US army to reach potential gen-Z recruits who may not have ever had exposure to military life. Many of the partnerships are with lifestyle content creators – other examples include a chef, an extreme sports enthusiast and travel influencers. 'These partnerships increase the army's visibility, bring awareness to untapped audiences, and articulate the possibilities of army service in unique and creative ways,' said Madison Bonzo, a US army recruiting spokesperson. The strategy reveals how integral influencers have become to selling not just products but also jobs and entire lifestyles – enlisting is a multi-year commitment. The recruitment effort is also unfolding alongside the US's ongoing military aid to Israel as part of a war that is growing more and more unpopular. A recent Gallup poll found that less than a third of adults in the US back Israel's military action in Gaza as a flood of news reports have exposed the ongoing starvation crisis killing people as a result of Israel blocking aid. Some commenters called Kelly's post 'propaganda' and found the posts distasteful. 'The rich influencing the poor to do the things that they dont want to. Its giving Hunger Games. Its giving Class Wars,' wrote one person. Robert Kozinets, a professor at the University of Southern California who has written extensively about social media and marketing, said the content wasn't so dissimilar from other types of advertising campaigns. 'We're pretty used to celebrities or personalities who are endorsing particular products,' even if they don't use them themselves, said Kozinets, adding: 'You don't have to live at Disneyland to do a review of Disneyland.' While the recruitment effort is new, military influencers who post about life in the armed forces are not. Some creators such as @onexpunchxdad on TikTok poke fun at military life and highlight some of the realities. A recent post, for example, explains three things video games get wrong about the military (one is that it actually hurts if you get shot). And next month, a Military Influencer conference in Atlanta includes sessions about how content creators navigate both active duty and their personal lives and as well as elevating military voices on TikTok. The recent slate of sponsored posts, though, are slicker, and selling something more exciting than the reality. In another example, Breannah Yeh, an extreme sports influencer known for her slacklining videos, posted about the experience of tandem skydiving with the army. 'Challenges are what let us grow,' said an army captain in the video before Yeh jumps out of the plane. 'That was so epic. I do feel pretty incredible,' Yeh said after landing on the beach thanks to an army-branded parachute. The video ends with the familiar slogan: 'Be all you can be.' The US army's hope is that the content is enticing enough to attract more people to enlist. 'By participating in immersive army experiences alongside real soldiers, these influencers provide firsthand insights into military life and the possibilities of army service,' Bonzo said. The move follows the trend of several branches of the military branches having trouble meeting their enlistment goals in recent years, said Katherine Kuzminski, the director of studies at Center for a New American Security who researches military recruitment and retention. With more young people at home finishing school remotely because of the pandemic, they had less opportunity for exposure to programs such as the ROTC, she said. 'Accessing this entire generation of young adults who were in transition became challenging,' said Kuzminski. But the numbers are rebounding and recruitment is up again. Just before Memorial Day, Donald Trump said while traveling in Riyadh that military recruitment was rebounding more than ever under his administration. 'After years of military recruiting shortfalls, enlistments in the US armed forces are now the highest in 30 years because there is such an incredible spirit in the United States of America,' he said. The pattern began before Trump took office, data shows. Between 2020 and 2023, the army missed its annual recruitment goals. Last year, recruitment improved and it met its target. In June, the army announced it met its goals of enlisting 61,000 new recruits – four months earlier than expected. Jess Rauchberg, an assistant professor at Seton Hall University who studies the cultural impact of social media, reviewed some of the posts on behalf of the Guardian and said the content also has a message of security in an unstable time. 'The military is capitalizing on this moment to say, 'Well, our numbers are down and gen Z is hurting for jobs and stable lives,'' said Rauchberg, Working with creators is a way to 'promise them this idea of stability – if you work for us, we will take care of you'. 'That's appealing to a lot of young people,' she added.
