Innovative projects, future leaders shine at sustainability meet
Bengaluru: CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT), Bengaluru successfully hosted 'Techno-Meet on Sustainability 2025,' an inspiring exhibition that showcased about 50 innovative projects developed by students and faculty members, celebrating the spirit of creativity, technical excellence, and sustainability goals. The event was inaugurated by Dr.Tristha Ramamurthy, Provost of CMR University and Founder of Ekya Schools and by K Chandrashekar, Finance Advisor to the CMR Group. During the event, four innovative products — Smart Socket (by the stat-up Neuinn), Germination Kit (by the start-up Tiny Shootz), Light Board (by the start-up U-Shiksha), and the AI-powered Mentoring Tool - Sanghathi were officially launched, to meet the needs of smart living, urban farming, education, and mentoring, respectively.
The exhibition attracted students from various schools and colleges who engaged enthusiastically with the innovators, gaining insights into the real-world applications of emerging technologies. Some of the key projects included an Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Portable ECG Monitor for real-time heart analysis, EcoFilament — a solution transforming PET waste into sustainable 3D printing filament, a Gesture-Controlled Robot for military applications, an Oil Spill Detection System using satellite imagery, Fake News Detection using NLP techniques, and an AI Model for feature extraction from drone orthophotos.
A standout project developed by final-year students Girish C, Bhuvan Chandrashekar, Lalith Aditya R, and Mr. Ujwal Reddy, featured an IoT-enabled system that directly recycles PET waste into eco-friendly 3D printing filament, reducing energy consumption by approximately 30% and promoting a sustainable circular economy.Speaking at the event, Dr.Tristha Ramamurthy emphasised, 'At CMR Group of Institutions, we are committed to shaping the future of our students, nurturing them to become the leaders of tomorrow. With a strong focus on technology and innovation, we ensure they stay ahead in a rapidly evolving world.' The event was also attended by dignitaries including Dr. Sanjay Jain, Principal of CMRIT, Dr. B Narasimha Murthy, Vice Principal, along with Dean and Heads of Departments, who interacted with participants and encouraged their pursuit of excellence.Various top industry leaders also graced the occasion and interacted with the students.

The session focused on multiple streams, including liberal arts, design, political science, and BBA, and the prospects they hold. "Traditionally, engineering has been the go-to career for all students. However, if you look at the current context, things have changed drastically. We saw the industrial revolution, computer revolution, and now the AI revolution. Each revolution displaced many jobs and created new ones. It's about how we adapt. The biggest currency isn't employment; it's employability. If you build your employability quotient, it doesn't matter what's happening," said Sunil C, country manager, Adecco India. Latha Krishnan, professor and dean, school of liberal studies, CMR University, explained how liberal arts is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature, making it extremely employable. "Suppose you take psychology as your major. You can have science like applied mathematics or data science as your minor. If you have philosophy, you can become a social scientist and have data science as your minor. Such combinations will help you become tech-fluent," she said. Julian Paret, director at Alliance Centre of Eurasian Studies at Alliance University, agreed and explained how political science is also multidisciplinary. "Political science is a very holistic discipline. Data science and political science is a very popular combination. For example, if you want to lead any kind of electoral campaign, you need to be able to manage data. The same goes for psychology, because you need to be able to anticipate what the trends of tomorrow are. And it is a subject open to almost everyone," he said. Abhinav Srivastava, assistant professor and HOD, Presidency School of Design, explained how design is everywhere. "Anyone who comes from an engineering background when designing something will try to understand what the man actually wants. And that is where the entire concept of user-centric designing and human-centric design came in. In the last decade, there has been an upsurge in the kind of products we use. This has given way to something called UX and UI," he said. Anirrban Ghosh, associate dean and admission chair, JAGSoM (Jagdish Sheth School of Management), described why BBA is vital before getting an MBA. "BBA is the foundation of management. A BBA teaches you how to be professional from day one. If you do a BBA, your career acceleration happens. Also, with a BBA, you get to do internships and can even convert them into pre-placement offers. Also, the industry connections you make will be another advantage. TIDCO invites consultancy bids for Knowledge Tower at Tamil Nadu
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) has invited consultancy proposals for the design and execution of a new 'Knowledge Tower,' a flagship infrastructure initiative that will anchor the upcoming Tamil Nadu Knowledge City in Tiruvallur, just north of Chennai. Spread on 12.65-acre within Phase 1 of the Knowledge City project, the proposed tower is envisioned as a hub for high-value knowledge industries, offering built-up space for research institutions, technology firms, and innovation-driven enterprises. TIDCO has been tasked by the government with end-to-end responsibility for its planning and execution, including associated infrastructure. The development is expected to unfold in phases, with the initial stage comprising a minimum built-up area of one lakh square feet. Further expansion will be aligned with emerging demand and long-term strategic goals, suggesting a flexible, demand-responsive approach to growth. The project is being developed in line with a broader master plan and Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for the Tamil Nadu Knowledge City, prepared by CBRE South Asia. The appointed consultant will be required to align their architectural and engineering proposals with these foundational documents to ensure design consistency and adherence to the overall vision for the site. The master plan for the Knowledge City has been completed, and the state government is currently in discussion with several national and international universities to establish campuses in the city. The consultant will be responsible for delivering architectural, engineering, and project management services across the lifecycle of the project. This includes the master planning and conceptual design, detailed architectural and engineering work for the initial phase, preparation of tender documents, and support during procurement. The selected firm will also oversee construction management for the first phase of the tower. The focus is on developing public plazas, ramps, open areas, bus shelters, common parking spaces, vehicular drop-offs, and other elements which will be developed or proposed in Phase 1. A pre-bid meeting will be held on June 11 and the last date for proposals is July 4.
