Light bulb that got switched on by ‘reality check'
"While demonstrating a physical product virtually in digital 3D, a prospective client asked me to stop and then proceeded to ask more questions about how the 3D presentation was created rather than the product itself," he remembers. That incident inspired him to build a platform where "a customer can create such an experience themselves," he says.
That's how SatoriXR, an extended reality startup, was born. Extended reality or XR is an umbrella term encompassing technologies like augmented, mixed, and virtual reality.
"SatoriXR was incubated at the IIT Madras Incubation Cell in May 2022," says founder-CEO Ramamurthy. "The inspiration came from the early 3D movies we watched in our childhood." Named after a Zen Buddhist concept, a Satori moment is a moment of sudden clarity, when an idea becomes lucid.
"We take the customer from confusion to clarity to conviction — to buy or be trained," says Ramamurthy.
Part of SatoriXR's initial funding came from the IIT-M Incubation Cell in the form of "a grant and soft debt," he says, remembering the initial days.
"We received a technology grant through Forge, the company was self-sufficient, but to reach international markets, we raised a pre-seed round from private investors," he adds. SatoriXR raised a pre-seed round of $300,000 from international investors in March 2025, and "the funding is being used for product development and to execute our international 'go to market' strategy," adds Ramamurthy.
The company is in the middle of its next round of fundraising.
"We are actively raising our next round, and an IPO could be in the cards in the future," he adds.

SatoriXR is proudly local. "Our technology platform is built in India — for the world," says Ramamurthy, adding that the company already has a robust client list. "We already work with the who's who — top OEMs such as Daimler Trucks and Mercedes Benz use our platform and products – and we are expanding to international markets over the next few years and are gaining excellent traction," explains Ramamurthy.
The company also has a global presence and is active in the US, EU, and India. "We are executing a GTM (go-to-market) strategy for international markets and are gaining excellent traction, and our target is to serve the likes of the Fortune 500 companies since we already have a few such customers," says Ramamurthy.
Like that first presentation where client excitement led to a new startup, SatoriXR is still running on word-of-mouth recommendations.
"We have achieved excellent product-market fit and our customers are our biggest marketers," says Ramamurthy. "As our enterprise SAAS platform is being adopted globally, we are on track to be profitable in a year."
Currently, the company has a team of around 20 people. The "platform has been built leveraging advanced AI tools," says Ramamurthy. It has AI and augmented reality at its core. "Our research and development team will grow as we explore these areas in depth. As the platform's adoption picks up, we will hire teams to grow our support network and systems," he says.

How To Study At IIT While Working
Getting into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a dream for lakhs of students in India. It not only helps in career growth but also brings many other benefits such as exposure to students with a growth mindset, access to experienced and highly qualified professors, advanced laboratory facilities, strong placement support, and much more. There are multiple ways to get admission into IIT. For pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech), students must clear the JEE Mains and Advanced exams. For those who want to pursue Master of Technology (MTech), the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam is the entry route. However, these are all full-time programs, and students need to attend the campus regularly to complete the course. Part-Time Course for Working Professionals For those who are unable to attend regular classes due to work or personal commitments, many IITs offer MTech program. These programs are designed specifically for working professionals. Classes are usually scheduled in the evenings or on weekends, making it easier for individuals to continue their jobs while pursuing higher education. Eligibility Criteria Each IIT has its own specific eligibility rules for part-time MTech programs. In most cases, candidates do not need to appear for an entrance exam to get admission. To be eligible, the candidate must have a or BE degree from a recognised university. In addition to educational qualifications, relevant work experience is usually required. This ensures that candidates are prepared for the demands of a part-time academic program while continuing their professional responsibilities. Admission Process The admission process for part-time MTech programs may vary across IITs. It often includes a written test and interview. In some specializations, GATE scores may be considered, although it is not always mandatory. The selection process typically evaluates the candidate's GATE score (if required), past academic performance, and professional experience. After the shortlisting process, selected candidates are invited for interviews, and sometimes a written test, before final admission is granted. Program Duration While the full-time program lasts for 24 months (4 semesters), the part-time MTech program usually spans over 36 months (6 semesters). The course content remains the same as the full-time program, but the extended timeline helps balance academic learning with work commitments. IITs Offering Part-Time MTech Programs Many of the most prestigious IITs offer part-time options, including: • IIT Delhi • IIT Bombay • IIT Roorkee • IIT Kanpur Other IITs may also offer similar opportunities. Students should carefully explore the courses available in each institution. According to Gitesh Gaharwar, a student who completed MTech from IIT Roorkee while working: "Doing MTech at IIT while continuing my job was challenging, but totally worth it. The program is flexible and the faculty is supportive. I could apply what I learned in real time at my workplace. It helped me grow both academically and professionally." Students interested in part-time MTech programs at IITs are advised to regularly check the official websites of the respective institutes. These websites will provide accurate information about fees, application deadlines, registration process, course availability, and other important details.

Light bulb that got switched on by ‘reality check'
Mahesh Ramamurthy fondly remembers his light bulb moment. An automotive industry veteran for 26 years, he was responsible for sales, marketing, and technology in his previous role at an automotive company.
