'You Own Clothes, Shoes, Phones Because Of Us': BJP MLA's Remarks Spark Row

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
In controversial remarks, Maharashtra BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar told a gathering that people who criticise his party and government should know they are getting "clothes, shoes, mobile, monetary benefits of schemes and money for sowing because of us".
Speaking at a function on 'Har Ghar Solar' scheme in his assembly constituency Partur in Jalna district of central Maharashtra, the former state minister highlighted the BJP-led government's welfare schemes and development work, and went on to berate the critics of his party.
A video of Lonikar's controversial remarks surfaced on social media on Thursday and invited strong criticism from the opposition.

ही या लोकांची भाषा, त्यांचा अहंकार, त्यांची संस्कृती आहे !

"There are a few people and especially the youth who criticize us and our party on social media platforms. We gave overhead water tanks, concrete roads, function halls and benefits of various government schemes in your village," he is heard telling the gathering.
"Babanrao Lonikar gave salaries to mothers of those who criticize us and also sanctioned pension for their fathers. (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi gave Rs 6,000 to your father for sowing (a reference to PM Kisan Samman Nidhi). Your sister is benefiting from the Ladki Bahin Yojana. The clothes, shoes, mobile phones that you (BJP critics) have is because of us," the MLA is heard saying in the video.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Ambadas Danve hit out at the BJP legislator for his tasteless remarks and dubbed him as an "indigenous version of the British".
Speaking such a language is not good in a democracy, he noted.
"Your MLA status is because of the people. Your clothes, shoes, air tickets, leadership position, diesel in (your) car is also because of the people," Danve wrote on X while hitting out at the ruling party lawmaker.
"People should remember these words (of Lonikar). Elections (of local bodies in the state) are coming," the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader further said.

Hoardings with ‘derogatory' content against BJP MP Medha Kulkarni, FIR lodged

Police on Wednesday registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly putting up hoardings with derogatory content against Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Medha Kulkarni at the junction near Balgandharva auditorium in Pune city. Kamlesh Pradhan, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, Dhayari, lodged an FIR at the Deccan police station. Kulkarni, a resident of Kothrud, had raised a demand in a Railway committee meeting to rename Pune railway station after Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I. Several organisations and political parties have opposed Kulkarni's demand. Several social media users began spreading alleged objectionable and abusive content against her. Meanwhile, banners were put up with alleged derogatory remarks against Kulkarni at the junction near Balgandharva auditorium in Shivajinagar. The banners carried names of office bearers of Uddhav Thackery's Shiv Sena faction from Pune city. Earlier, the Parshuram Hindu Seva Sangh Maharashtra had submitted a complaint to the Deccan Gymkhana police station regarding alleged defamatory content circulating on social media and in public spaces, targeting Kulkarni and the Brahmin community. The complaint was attached with screenshots of remarks from social media platforms, claiming that these posts not only defamed Kulkarni but also attempted to insult her on the grounds of her caste and gender. The complainant organisation condemned the use of derogatory language against Peshwa Bajirao, the Peshwa regime, and the Brahmin community. Furthermore, the complainants alleged that large hoardings and banners with derogatory messages have been put up at various locations in Pune, inciting public unrest and creating social disharmony. The letter submitted to the police called for the immediate removal of such hoardings and legal action against those responsible. It also urged authorities to take steps to suspend or block social media accounts posting offensive content and register cases against the individuals involved. They have demanded strict action to prevent further spread of hate speech that could lead to communal tension.

Sule says Shaktipeeth will ruin state finances

Mumbai: A few days after the state cabinet approved the Rs 20,787 crore Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth highway, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule has stepped into the row over the project, saying the cash-starved state govt will not be able to afford the massive expenditure on the proposal. "State govt must give a serious thought to the huge expenditure on the project, particularly in view of the critical financial situation of the state. It will take several decades to restore the situation. It will have a massive impact on the Marathi people," Sule said. Sule referred to a series of reports in a section of the media, saying there is strong opposition to the project from all sections. "When our financial situation is very bad, still we are in the process of securing a loan of Rs 30,000 crore, with an interest of 8.85%, it is beyond the financial capacity of the state to afford such a high interest," Sule said. Sule said it was found that elected representatives of almost all the political parties have opposed the land acquisition process. "We need infrastructure projects, but at the same time, govt should not impose such projects on the people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doutor: Reverter encolhimento muscular após os 50 depende deste hábito noturno Revista do Homem Saiba Mais Undo If we accept the Shaktipeeth highway, there will be adverse impact on the financial situation of the state. Even the planning and finance departments have raised concern over the impact of the project on the financial situation of the project," Sule said. Sule asked why the govt is insisting on implementation of the project at a juncture when the local farmers have opposed it. "Farmers are not keen on the highway, if the project is implemented, it will have adverse impact on the financial situation of the state. People must examine the remarks of the finance and planning department," she said. MPCC president Harshawardhan Sapkal alleged that the Shaktipeeth highway is being planned and implemented at the behest of Delhi's elite, to benefit favoured industrialists. Sapkal said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is pushing for the Shaktipeeth highway on orders from Delhi's power brokers. "A corridor is being planned from central India to Goa's port to help favoured industrialists export their raw materials abroad. This is a red-carpet project exclusively for them," Sapkal said. Sapkal said that while an allocation of Rs 20,000 crore has been made, the expenditure could go up to Rs 1.5 lakh crore and is a ploy for corrupt profiteering. "This is the beginning of pushing Maharashtra towards bankruptcy, since the debt burden has cross the mark of Rs 9.82 lakh crore," he said.

No weekly fair at Fagu Baba's shrine as Section 144 imposed

Gorakhpur: Authorities have prohibited the weekly fair at the 105-year-old Fagu Baba's shrine in Badliya village under the Itwa police station following objections raised by former BJP MLA Raghvendra Pratap Singh. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The move came after Singh claimed that the site is not a Sufi dargah but the samadhi (tomb) of a Hindu man named Fagu Prasad. The former MLA alleged that occult practices and monetary exploitation were taking place at the shrine where women from outside the region would stay for extended periods. "We had informed the administration. They took the right steps and we are satisfied," Singh said, adding that they had planned to recite the Hanuman Chalisa at the site on Thursday. However, after the announcement of recital of the Hanuman Chalisa by Singh, heavy police force was deployed at the spot on Thursday morning. SDM, Dumariyaganj, Sanjeev Dixit imposed to prevent gatherings. "Based on police and CO Itwa's reports, it was found that exorcism-like activities were being conducted regularly. The land also falls under charagah (pasture) category and legal action will be taken," Dixit stated. Meanwhile, sitting MLA Saiyada Khatoon strongly objected to the curb orders imposed by the administration. She said: "The shrine is a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. I will collect all legal documents related to the dargah and move court if required. People's faith is attached to the place, especially women, who gather here every Thursday. I will fight for their belief."
