Why the Mihlali Mayambela move to Kaizer Chiefs may not work out

IOL News14-07-2025
Mihlali Mayambela's potential move from Aris Limassol to Kaizer Chiefs faces challenges due to his key role in Cyprus, a high transfer fee, and Limassol's contract renewal option, despite interest from Chiefs and discussions with Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. Picture: Muzi Ntombela, BackpagePix
With the rumours swirling that Mihlali Mayambela may be considering a move from Aris Limassol to Kaizer Chiefs, whether the player will actually make the move back home is now seemingly less likely.
The 28-year-old Bafana Bafana player is currently filling a key role at the club in Cyprus, and a hefty price tag might dissuade the Soweto Giants from making a big move for his signature.
According to Kick Off, Chiefs would have to fork out around R4 million for Mayambela.
The website also reports that Limassol may also invoke the option to renew Mayambela's contract.

Ex-PSL star Cheslyn Jampies: ‘I lost my car, sold my bed – just to stay afloat'

Owed money Former Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC defender Cheslyn Jampies says he's owed almost R1 million by the club after he was released in 2022. Photo: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Image: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Former Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC defender Cheslyn Jampies is desperate to be paid what he is owed after being released by the club as far back as 2022. He is reportedly owed almost R1 million by the club, which is no longer operating in professional football after being relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. "I'm still waiting for that money, it's been almost three years now. Apparently, there are some positives, and I'm currently in Cape Town," Jampies said, as per KickOff. "There were discussions about me going to Durban City, but I don't know what happened; they never got back to me. I can't retire right now, I'm still young. I'm sure a lot of what is happening to me now is linked to my experience at TTM. There was no reason for it to go this far." Get your news on the go, click here to join the IOL News WhatsApp channel. Next Stay Close ✕ Jampies, currently without a club, detailed that he was now facing financial difficulties, but was fortunate his wife was making enough money to support their family. "It's clear that Lawrence Mulaudzi was not prepared to pay me. My car was repossessed, and I had to sell my bed, fridge, and TV just to get to Cape Town. It was a tough road. "I have some income here and there, and my wife has a very good job, so she is taking great care of us with her earnings.' As to whether he was ready to resume his career, Jampies said he was waiting for the issue with TTM to be resolved before moving on. "This has taken a significant toll on me. I had a promising career in football for 15 years, and Mulaudzi destroyed it in less than six months. "After what I've been through, what can I teach children who want to play football? I can't teach them to work hard behind the scenes when that hasn't helped me… The R750,000 is just one of the payments TTM were supposed to make – they actually owe me much more than that." Kabelo Mashego, the club's lawyer, had bad news for Jampies, and said that since the club was relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they no longer existed as a professional entity, so there was no money to pay him what he's owed. "According to my knowledge, the club no longer exists,' said Mashego, according to KickOff. 'Unless it's operating somewhere in Limpopo. The club is no more, so it's one of those debts you must just write off. You can't just run after a non-existing club for damages. "Sometimes you must just accept. It's one of those things." Ranked: FIVE best Kaizer Chiefs coaches in the PSL era

Kaizer Chiefs have had some great coaches over the past 55 years, but the focus here is on the five best coaches since the inception of the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Only two coaches in the club's history have won the league title within the last 30 years, indicating a lack of consistency. While the club enjoyed success in terms of trophies since their formation, everything changed in 2015 when Stuart Baxter left, leading to a decade without any silverware. The trophy drought came to an end in May when they won the Nedbank Cup. 1. Ted Dumitru The late Romanian coach led Amakhosi to their first PSL league title in the 2003/04 season. Nicknamed 'Master Ted,' Dumitru successfully defended the title the following season in a memorable campaign. During the championship race, Amakhosi managed to overtake the season-long leaders, Orlando Pirates, in the last game of the season. Dumitru was praised for his strategic approach to matches and for inspiring Amakhosi's late-season surge. 2. Muhsin Ertugral Ertugral is one of the most iconic coaches in the PSL era. He won six major trophies during his time at Naturena and is best known for leading 'Operation Vat Alles' in 2001, which saw Chiefs clinch every cup competition in the league. 3. Stuart Baxter Baxter's first tenure saw him win four trophies with Amakhosi, and he became the second coach after Dumitru to win a league title for the team in the PSL era. He left abruptly in 2015 but returned in 2021, although he was unable to replicate the success that saw him guide the Glamour Boys to two doubles. 4. Paul Dolezar Known as 'Mr. Rothmans Cup,' Dolezar claimed three consecutive Rothmans Cups, winning two back-to-back with Chiefs. While he struggled to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title, many believe that with more time, he could have led the team to a league championship. 5. Ernst Middendorp Mazinyo's first stint with Amakhosi was a mixed experience; he won the Absa Cup and the SAA Super 8. He returned to the club a decade later in 2018 and came close to winning the league. Middendorp is one of the few Kaizer Chiefs coaches to lead the club to a second-place finish in the PSL era. Unfortunately, he was dismissed after losing the title in the final 15 minutes of the season. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Kaizer Chiefs news: Striker offered to AmaKhosi, Mayele latest

Kaizer Chiefs remain in the hunt for a formidable striker, albeit landing six players this offseason. 'Yes, the club has already signed six players this season, but it's believed that the head coach and his technical team still need at least one experienced striker to help them mainly in the CAF Confederation Cup and management is willing to sign another striker if that's what the technical team needs so that they have a well-balanced squad which will compete in all the tournaments, ' a source confirmed. Coincidentally, the Soweto giants have reportedly been offered Cameroonian striker Ravel Djoumekou, who currently plays for Congo's FC Saint Eloi Lupopo. ADVERTISEMENT 'He is an experienced striker who could really help Chiefs at this stage,' a sourced explained. 'He has been offered to Chiefs in their quest to sign a striker and now it's up to Chiefs' scouts and analysts to assess him and make a decision after that. But if they make their decision to sign him, then he would be available.' A second source reaffirmed Kaizer Chiefs' inquiry, saying, 'Of course, the club hasn't finished signings yet. They are still looking at other players. Some you may know, others you may not know. So if this striker is good as they say, then the club would be considering him as well, as it's believed they haven't finished signings yet for this coming season.' What's happening with Mayele? Meanwhile, former Kaizer Chiefs target Fiston Mayele seems increasingly likely to be departing Pyramids FC following a successful season that saw them lift the CAF Champions League trophy for the first time in the club's history. 'I asked Pyramids officials about the future of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, and they told me he's a strong candidate to leave,' Egyptian football journalist Ahmed Shobeir. 'The player received a very lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and is close to departing.' 'Honestly, I was very surprised and asked them how they could agree to let him go when he's one of the team's top stars and scorers. They told me the player is determined to leave after receiving the offer from Saudi Arabia and won't be with the team next season.' Whats striker should Kaizer Chiefs be looking at?
