4-day holiday in UAE: Travel deals start from Dh1,999 as residents make Eid plans

Khaleej Times26-05-2025

Residents in the UAE will get a four-day weekend for Eid Al Adha next month, irrespective of when the moon is sighted. Now that the probable dates for the Islamic holiday have become more clear, many are flocking to book holidays and short trips.
'Ever since Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait announced their holidays, the probable dates for Eid holidays have become clearer to UAE residents,' said Safeer Mohammed of Smart Travel. 'Since then, we have received a lot of enquiries and bookings. Most of the travel is gravitating towards visa-free places like CIS countries.'
Last week, Qatar announced a five-day break for Eid Al Adha, beginning on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah, also known as Arafah Day — the holiest day in Islam.
Sold out packages
Many travel agents are seeing high demand for their Eid packages. Mohamed Kasim from Akbar Travels said that almost all their tours are now sold out. 'Some of the most popular destinations apart from CIS countries are Kenya and Egypt,' he said. 'In Kenya, a lot of people are traveling to see the Maasai Mara National Reserve."
According to Kunaal Nanik from Marcopolo Holidays, he is seeing a 'clear shift' in the trend for Eid holidays. 'People are planning earlier and are better prepared, with a strong preference for longer trips."
'With Eid falling during summer, Europe continues to be a top choice — especially among travellers who applied early for Schengen visas, showing greater awareness of limited appointment availability. We're also seeing increased interest in the Balkans, where visa-on-arrival access is possible for those holding long-term multiple-entry US, UK, or Schengen visas.'
Safeer added that many of their travellers preferred shorter trips lasting four nights and five days for Eid with prices being a major factor of consideration. 'For leisure travel, the most popular package we have seen is our trip to Baku which sold for Dh1,999,' he said. 'We had trips to Tashkent for Dh2,100 and a joint travel to Armenia and Georgia for Dh2,599.'
Holidays in the UAE
This year, Tuesday, May 27, will correspond to 29 Dhul Qadah. If the crescent moon is sighted on Tuesday evening, then May 28 will be Dhul Hijjah 1. This means, Eid would fall on Friday, June 6.
If the crescent moon is not sighted on Tuesday, then Thursday, May 29, will be Dhul Hijjah 1. This means Eid would fall on Saturday, June 7. On Sunday, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia called on all its residents to observe the sky for the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday.
According to a UAE Cabinet resolution, the Eid Al Adha holidays last from 9 to 12 Dhul Hijjah — which is the day of Arafah and first three days of Eid Al Adha. On Sunday, an expert from the International Astronomical Centre (IAC), said the crescent for Dhul Hijjah is expected to be sighted on May 27.

Watch: Jordan Crown Prince celebrates with team after historic World Cup qualification

There were unprecedented scenes at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in neighbouring Oman on Thursday, June 5. As Muslims prepared to celebrate the blessed occasion of Eid Al Adha, Jordan had more reasons to rejoice as they rewrote a slice of history. The Hashemite Kingdom qualified for the World Cup for the first time. Ali Olwan, the 25-year-old striker fired a hattrick as Jordan defeated hosts Oman 3-0. The victory moved them to 16 points. And their ticket to next year's showpiece in the United States, Canada and Mexico was confirmed after South Korea's 2-0 win against Iraq in Basra. The top two teams in each of the three Asian groups go straight to the World Cup, while those finishing third and fourth — the UAE and Qatar hold those slots in Group A — enter a fourth round of qualifiers. As Jordan celebrated this stellar achievement, no one was more happier than the team's "12th man", who has been the squad's pillar of support. Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein, an avid football lover, was in the stands to support the team. He later met the team following the match and the love, affection and respect was evident as the cheered the Crown Prince. Later, the Crown Prince cut a cake with the team onboard Royal Jordanian Airlines, the country's flagship carrier. ‘I feel lighter': UAE pilgrims on Hajj say shaving head is about 'shedding arrogance'

In Mina, surrounded by thousands of pilgrims and resting after a long day of spiritual rituals, Jassim Al Khatib from Dubai sat on a barber's chair shaving his head, speaking to his younger brother over a video call. 'I did it,' Jassim told his brother, running his hand over his completely shaved head. 'It's all gone. I feel lighter, like something heavy has been lifted from within.' Jassim is among the thousands of UAE residents who are currently performing Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam. With the major rites completed, including standing at Arafat and the symbolic stoning of the devil at Jamarat, Jassim had just fulfilled one of the final acts of the pilgrimage — shaving his head, which is called Halq in Arabic. 'More than just hair' Speaking to Khaleej Times over the phone, Jassim remembered the moment he completed the shaving ritual. 'When the barber passed the blade over my head, I closed my eyes and just thought about everything I wanted to leave behind — my sins, my ego, my past mistakes. This isn't just about removing hair. It's about shedding arrogance and walking into a new life.' According to Islamic tradition, shaving the head after Hajj is a powerful symbol of humility, purification, and renewal. Pilgrims believe it marks the end of a transformative journey — a reset of both body and soul. 'I feel reborn' Sohail Siddiqui, a 40-year-old Indian expat from Ajman, also underwent Halq shortly after completing the stoning ritual in Mina. Texting his wife, through a voice note, due to poor network coverage, he broke the news. 'I sent her a voice note saying I just got my head shaved and I am leaving the state of Ihram,' said Siddiqui. His wife replied with a duaa, along with a voice message from their two daughters praying for his safe return. Sohail's group is expected to return to the UAE on June 11, after performing Tawaf al-Wada, the farewell circumambulation around the Holy Kaaba. 'Even though I haven't stepped into my home yet, I feel like I am returning as a better human, a better husband, and hopefully a better Muslim,' he said. For pilgrims, the act of shaving the head is a deeply personal and emotional moment. 'Millions of people surround you, yet you feel very close to God,' said Jassim. 'And in that moment, when you let go of your hair, your pride, your appearance, you are just a servant of Allah.' Significance of shaving the head Shaving the head during Hajj is a deeply spiritual act rooted in obedience and humility, said Sheikh Ayaz Housee, imam at the Next Generation School and khateeb at Al Manar Islamic Centre in Dubai. 'It is a command from Allah performed purely out of submission,' he said. The ritual symbolises purification, as pilgrims shed their hair, they symbolically shed sins, starting afresh. It also serves as a powerful expression of humility, with hair often seen as a symbol of pride and beauty. 'By removing it, the pilgrim humbles himself before Allah, abandoning vanity,' added Sheikh Ayaz. He further said that this ritual is emulating Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who also shaved his head during Hajj. Joining millions of others in this act, pilgrims reinforce unity, equality, and the brotherhood of Islam.
