Former Alabama football wide receiver signs with NFL team
Bond, who went undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft, played at Alabama for two seasons in 2022-23 prior to entering the NCAA transfer portal where the wide receiver eventually ended up at Texas for the 2024 campaign.
While in Tuscaloosa, Bond hauled in a combined 65 receptions for 888 yards and five touchdowns, a span which also included likely the top season of his collegiate career in 2023 where he had 48 receptions for 668 yards and four scores.
Bond's 2023 season also including the infamous "4th-and-31" play in which he was on the receiving end of a 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Milroe to defeat Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
With the move, Bond now reunites with former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees in Cleveland, who is at the moment serving in the same role with the Browns. There are also other former Alabama players on the Browns such as Jerry Jeudy and Tony Brown.

Alabama higher in USA TODAY Sports preseason college football rankings than top 25 polls
One national outlet is slightly higher on the Alabama Crimson Tide entering the 2025 college football season than the coaches who make up the US LBM Coaches Poll and the various sportswriters and broadcasters who make up the AP Top 25 poll. Alabama was ranked No. 8 in both the preseason Coaches Poll on Aug. 4, as well as the AP Top 25 poll released on Aug. 11. Among SEC teams, Alabama placed third behind the top-ranked Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs. Kirby Smart's team was No. 4 in the Coaches Poll and No. 6 in the AP poll. On Monday, USA TODAY Sports unveiled its own preseason rankings (re-rank) of all 136 FBS programs ahead of 2025. Alabama checked at No. 7 in longtime college football analyst Paul Myerberg's hierarchy of teams, one spot higher than its ranking in the preseason top 25 polls. While Texas and Georgia were both still ahead of the Crimson Tide in USA TODAY Sports' rankings entering coach Kalen DeBoer's second season in Tuscaloosa, Alabama placed ahead of one team that landed ahead of them in the preseason polls: the Oregon Ducks. The LSU Tigers, who Alabama edged by one spot in the preseason polls, were still the next highest-ranked SEC team, though they were a few spots lower in USA TODAY Sports' full rankings of all 136 FBS teams entering 2025. Former NFL Pro Bowler Shares Bold Shedeur Sanders Browns Prediction
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. At long last, the Cleveland Browns have named their starting quarterback. The team is rolling with longtime veteran Joe Flacco to lead the team when Week 1 of the regular season rolls around. More news: Browns Make Decision on Starting Quarterback for 2025 NFL Season What makes this decision interesting is what the Browns plan to do regarding the other three quarterbacks on the roster. Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel are now battling it out for the second and third-string positions. Pickett might be the odd man out, considering his hamstring injury has limited his ability to play in preseason. With Sanders and Gabriel, the presumed front-runners for the backup position, a former NFL Pro Bowler has a bold prediction for how the depth chart will shake out. CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - AUGUST 08: Shedeur Sanders #12 of the Cleveland Browns reacts after a touchdown during the 1st half of an NFL Preseason 2025 game against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America... CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - AUGUST 08: Shedeur Sanders #12 of the Cleveland Browns reacts after a touchdown during the 1st half of an NFL Preseason 2025 game against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on August 08, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina. MoreMore news: Rams HC Sean McVay Offers Another Cryptic Matthew Stafford Injury Update Former NFL defensive tackle Gerald McCoy talked about the quarterback situation on the "Rich Eisen Show," where he dropped a bold prediction on Sanders. 🗣️ @Geraldini93 The @nflnetwork analyst was with us when news broke from Cleveland that Joe Flacco will be the team's starting QB in Week 1 — no surprise? or should they have gone with a rookie?#NFL #DawgPound — Rich Eisen Show (@RichEisenShow) August 18, 2025 "I think the QB battle has been for No. 2, this entire time ... you can't go with Kenny Pickett, cause he hasn't played. We don't know what he's doing in this offense. Right now, the battle is between Shedeur and Dillon Gabriel. They both did really good things, and they both did some bone-headed rookie things. However, if I'm picking, I'm going with Shedeur. He doesn't have that antsiness that you seen from Dillon Gabriel," McCoy stated. McCoy indicates that Gabriel showcased his antsy style of playing got him into trouble during his preseason start, which led to a costly pick-six. Whereas Sanders was able to keep level-headed when "chaos ensued." Sanders did take a sack, but McCoy indicates that taking a sack is better than forcing a play and ending the possession on a costly turnover, and a defensive touchdown in this case. Sanders did play his preseason game with poise. He picked up chunk yardage with his legs and threw two touchdowns. Gabriel, on the other hand, threw an interception and lost a fumble. Mistakes are bound to happen, especially in preseason. But those mistakes might point to Gabriel having more immaturity in terms of the big moment. The Browns have one final preseason game to determine the order of the depth chart beyond Flacco, but McCoy believes what most believe — Sanders should be given the backup quarterback position. Browns announce starting QB and it isn't former Steelers first-rounder Kenny Pickett
One of the most hilarious offseason running jokes within the AFC North has finally come to an end — the Cleveland Browns have selected a starting QB, and it isn't former Steelers first-rounder Kenny Pickett. After the Browns hosted a four-man QB competition, Cleveland announced 17-year veteran Joe Flacco would be the starter moving forward — potentially killing off any hope of a Pickett-Steelers revenge game in Week 6. Despite teammate Diontae Johnson naming Pickett as the front-runner ahead of Flacco, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel, the former Steeler's hamstring injury likely forced the Browns' hand in their selection. Now that the starting QB battle is over, many expect the Browns to part ways with one of their four quarterbacks — but whether that's Pickett, Sanders, or Gabriel remains to be seen.
