Urgent search for taxi driver who stopped at crash that killed two sisters
Police are asking a taxi driver who stopped near the scene of a crash which killed two sisters on a walk to come forward. Elderly sisters Sandra and Sylvia were named by their family, who described them as the most caring, loving women you could ever meet. The pair were knocked down by a car in Caversham, Reading, Berkshire, last Friday morning while out enjoying their weekly walk into the town centre. The driver of the car, a 47-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Officers are now asking the taxi driver, along with anyone who was driving in the area at the time, to come forward and check their dash camera footage. Emergency services were called to Peppard Road, Caversham, last Friday after the sisters, aged 72 and 68, were killed. Police confirmed that a woman driving a Volkswagen Tiguan had been arrested by officers at the scene. Investigating officer Sergeant Matthew Cadmore said: 'An investigation has been launched and we have already made an arrest. I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident and hasn't already come forward, to please get in touch.' Sandra and Sylvia's family said in a statement: 'The two women involved in the accident were two of the most loving, caring women you would ever meet. They were at the heart of the family. 'It is such a tragedy that these two lives have been taken away, and knowing they were taken whilst they were doing what they loved best – their morning walks, it just hits harder. More Trending 'Every Friday morning, the sisters would go for a walk, down to the town and back home. But unfortunately, this Friday was different. 'They were both healthy and full of life, with future plans. They both had holidays, adventures and were soon welcoming new additions, great-grandchildren, to the family. They are and will forever be missed and loved more than ever by family and friends.' Post-mortem examinations will be carried out on the bodies of both women, and an inquest is to be opened and adjourned by the Berkshire coroner, Heidi Connor. The arrested woman, who is from Reading, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Still shaken, the girls are haunted by hazy memories and rising panic. As they try to piece together what really happened, a terrifying thought begins to take hold: What if the figure they vaguely remember was Gary Windass (Mikey North), and it wasn't just a hallucination? Could they have unintentionally hurt him…and is that why he's now missing? Nina is clearly consumed by guilt, fearing that they could be somehow involved with Gary's disappearance. She voices her concerns to Summer in Roy's, but Summer urges her that they must move on and try to forget about that night, and it was possibly just a hallucination as a result of the drugs. But Nina can't let it go. Meanwhile, Gary's disappearance becomes official when Maria reports him missing to the police. DS Kit reveals that a man has been admitted to the hospital in a coma, sparking Lisa's suspicion that it could be Gary. At the hospital, Gary lies unconscious as a nurse tells a visitor that 'Chesney' is improving, but who is this mysterious woman sitting by Gary's bedside? And why is she keeping his identity a secret?
