A list of the past European champions before Saturday's Champions League final
MUNICH (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain is going for its first Champions League title when it takes on Inter Milan in the final on Saturday.
Inter is going for its fourth European crown and first since winning the 2010 trophy. The Italian club also won back-to-back titles in 1964 and '65 when the competition was still known as the European Cup.
The former European Cup knockout tournament was rebranded the Champions League in 1992 after a group stage had been introduced to accommodate more teams the season before. Marseille won the first title of the Champions League era in 1993 and is still the only European champion from France.
PSG is bidding to become the second. If Inter wins in Munich on Saturday, the Italian team would move level with Ajax with four European Cup titles, behind only Barcelona with five, Bayern Munich and Liverpool with six, AC Milan with seven, and Real Madrid with the record, 15.

But that is far from assured amid a backlash from players over fear of burnout and it is still unknown how much appetite there is among fans for another competition. Here is what to know about the Club World Cup. When is the Club World Cup? Inter Miami plays Al Ahly at the Hard Rock Stadium in the opening game on June 14. The final is July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. What is the format? The Club World Cup has been expanded from seven teams to 32 and will emulate the men's and women's World Cups. Eight groups of four teams will play in a round robin mini league, with the top two advancing to a knockout stage, which runs from the round of 16 through to the final. Where is it being played? Staged in the United States, host cities include Atlanta, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Which teams have qualified? Some of Europe's biggest teams will take part, including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, this year's Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain and runner-up Inter Milan. From South America, top Brazilian clubs Fluminense, Flamengo, Palmeiras and Botafogo — all recent winners of Copa Libertadores, South America's top clup competition — will participate, while River Plate and Boca Juniors will represent Argentina. FIFA said in March that it had allocated $525 million in guaranteed fees for teams taking part. That ranges from $38.19 million to the top-ranked European team to $3.58 million for the representative from Oceania, Auckland City. A further $475 million is earned by results in the 63 games, with $2 million paid for winning group stage games, $7.5 million for playing in the round of 16 and $40 million to the team that wins the final. A point to prove The old version of the Club World Cup, which was played yearly, was dominated by European teams in recent times. Only Brazilian team Corinthians broke Europe's winning run in 17 years. An expanded tournament will give more South American teams the chance to test themselves against their European counterparts. Saudi Arabia has made a big push in recent years to become a player in global soccer and has attracted superstars like Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema to the oil-rich kingdom, as well as winning the right to stage the World Cup in 2034. This will be its first opportunity for it to make a statement in a major global tournament since that drive. Pacers commit 19 first-half turnovers in Game 1 of NBA Finals against Thunder
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Indiana Pacers started the NBA Finals by making the wrong type of history. The Pacers committed 19 turnovers in the first half of Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night. It was the highest number of turnovers by a team before halftime of a postseason game during the league's digital play-by-play era, which goes back to the 1997 playoffs. There has not been a 20-turnover first half in any NBA game since Nov. 17, 2007, when the New Jersey Nets — the franchise that now plays in Brooklyn — had that many in the first two quarters of what became a 91-87 loss to the Miami Heat. The Pacers had nine turnovers in the first quarter, 10 more in the second. But they were only down 57-45 at the half, in part because Oklahoma City had turned the 19 Indiana giveaways into only nine points. Brazil draws 0-0 with Ecuador in Ancelotti's debut as coach
SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil held Ecuador to a 0-0 draw Thursday in a South American World Cup qualifying game that marked Carlo Ancelotti's debut as national team coach. The match in Guayaquil offered few scoring opportunities for either team. Ecuador edged closer to its direct World Cup spot by maintaining second place in the round robin competition with 24 points. Brazil is in fourth place with 22 points. The top six teams in South America qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup.
