8 (really nice) places in Dubai to go to between 5pm and 7pm for drinks and bites
With the summer season almost in swing and life slowing down a little bit, it's quite tempting to meet up with friends for after work drinks and nibbles.
In Paris, they've got this concept called 'cinq à sept' – five to seven. It's when you've finished work for the day and the sun is starting to set, so you've got a golden window of opportunity where you can boost your mood after a day at work.
Typically, people here use this time to commute, to run errands or to stick around in the office.
But if you decide to do it like the French do, you can use this time to brighten up your day with a little tipple at a really nice restaurant bar.
With that in mind, here's a list of our favourite fancy after-work spots.
Eugène Eugène

Available daily from 4pm to 7pm, you can take advantage of the L'Apéritif d'Eugène, a French-inspired offering, where for Dhs110 per person, you'll get a curated selection of two mixed drinks or mocktails, complemented by the chef's assortment of gourmet appetizers. Definitely the place to be for evening drinks.
Dhs110. Daily from 4pm-7pm. Kempinski Mall of the Emirates, Al Barsha (04 379 8963).
Isola

Looking for a picturesque sundowner spot to unwind? The menu there has a selection of creative mixed drinks and cicchetti bites you can order.
Thu 5pm-8pm. Jumeirah Islands Clubhouse, Jumeirah Islands (04 583 3124).
La Petite Maison Restaurant & Bar

LPM Restaurant & Bar is doing exactly what the Parisians do with its Cinq à Sept bar programme. Here, between 5pm and 7pm, you can choose from a selection of beverages with glasses of grape each priced at Dhs44 and mixed drinks at Dhs48. Then you can pick one complimentary bar bite from a pretty stellar selection of small dishes, including smoked burrata dip with crispy zucchini flower, crudités and beef cecina. The best part is you can walk in without having to make a booking.
Mon-Fri 5pm-7pm. Gate Village, DIFC (04 439 0505).
Tapasake

Embrace sunset vibes at Tapasake on weekdays from 5 pm to 8pm at the Terrace Bar and Pool Bar. There will be a special Japanese Nikkei offering with beverages and tapas. With drinks starting from Dhs55 per person for a glass of Italian sparkling, Dhs56 for a glass of pink grape and Dhs50 for a glass of draught hops at the pool bar, you can sip in style for less.
Sun-Thu, 5pm-8pm. One&Only One Za'abeel, Trade Centre Area (04 666 1617).
Onda by Pierchic

Wander up the pier at Jumeirah Al Qasr for a sunset drink and you'll have some pretty magnificent views of the Arabian Gulf and Burj Al Arab. The bar is open to everyone, whether you're dining at end-of-the-pier Italian restaurant Pierchic, or just in the mood for a bit of sea air with your drinks.
Either way, if you're after pre-dinner drinks with your date, or on the hunt for a spot to unwind as the sun sets, this open-air deck suspended above the water should be your next go-to.
Sun-Thu 5pm-midnight, Fri-Sat 5pm-1am. Pierchic, Jumeirah Al Qasr jumeirah.com/pierchic (800 323 232).
Sucre

Sucre also has a special aperitivo menu available from Monday to Friday between 4pm and 8pm. Here you can choose from a selection of mixed drinks, hops and grape for Dhs38. Each drink on the menu comes with a paired bar bite. These include stuffed olives, anchovy bruschetta, pickled pepper croquettes with goose ham and burrata fig bruschetta.
From Dhs38. Mon-Fri 4pm-8pm. Gate Village, DIFC (04 340 0829).
Tagomago

Head to Tagomago right after work and you'll catch the quiet period before people start arriving for dinner. There's no better place to enjoy the sunset on Palm Jumeirah. The Balearic-inspired beachfront restaurant features a fully Spanish menu, several bars and stunning interiors. We prefer to sit at the bar right at the back overlooking the Arabian Sea and Burj Al Arab at a distance.
Order a Spanish pitcher and a small bowl of blood orange-stuffed Spanish olives as a snack and you definitely won't regret it.
Daily 10am-1am. Azure Residence, The Palm Jumeirah (04 832 6620).
Uchi

A DIFC dweller? Grab your friends and head to this little Japanese eatery and take advantage of Uchi's 'power hour' between 5pm and 7pm. Here, you can choose from a premium selection of Japanese beverages as well as fine grape and hops.
Take advantage of a 15 percent discount between 5pm and 7pm every weekday. Or take the experience up a notch by pairing your drink with a selection of small bites.

And in a new episode, fans will see the daughter of two very famous actors make a surprise guest appearance. Ella Stiller is the daughter of Hollywood royalty Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor. She pops up in the episode titled 'Better Than Sex,' and plays the role of Mia. Read More on SATC DRESS STRESS My pal's SATC-inspired dress for her brother's wedding is so inappropriate Mia gets pregnant with Miranda's son Brady after they hook up, and a fiery confrontation ensues as Miranda confirms with Mia that Brady is the father. Brady sits down to tell his parents, and Steve is far from happy about the news. 'You were just getting your life together, and now you have f****d it up so bad' he says. Brady admits he'd only found out about the pregnancy because he'd bumped into Mia and she was clearly pregnant. Brady doesn't know whether Mia will keep the baby or give it up for adoption. And Just Like That's new teaser sparks conspiracy theory that Samantha Jones is BACK after Kim Cattrall season 2 cameo Later in the episode, Miranda is seen visiting Mia in the hair salon where she works and quizzes her on the pregnancy, while pretending not to be Brady's mum. Miranda tries to subtly question her about the father of the baby, to which Mia replies: 'He's cool, I guess. It's not like we're gonna raise the kid together. F**k buddy status, you know?' Not too long after, Miranda admits: 'I'm the 'f**k buddy's mother,' which quickly leads her to getting her face sprayed with water and a frosty exchange of words ensues. Funnily enough, Ben and Christine's daughter already has a connection to Sex and The City, given that her grandma Anne Meara - who passed away in 2015 - played Steve's mother, Mary, in four episodes of the original series. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Ella had landed herself a role alongside a House of the Dragon star. The blonde actress will be appearing alongside Emily Carey, who played Lady Alicent Hightower in the HBO series, in a new off-Broadway play. As well as Ella's famous dad, she also has a famous mum too. Christine Taylor starred as Bonnie in Friends and in The Brady Bunch Movie and Zoolander. The young actress has joined the cast of Before This New Year, a play written by Liana Sonenclar that will run Off-Broadway in New York City. Ella will take on the role of Jen in the play, which is about a former high school track star called Alison Bennett. At present, the play has been indefinitely postponed, with a statement from the production provided to Playbill reading: 'The production team is immensely proud of the work that has gone into developing this piece and grateful to all those who have contributed to its journey so far.' 5 Ella Stiller is the daughter of Hollywood royalty Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor Credit: Getty

An impossible-to-get table on the Upper East Side? Stranger things have happened. Chez Fifi, from the folks behind neighborhood spot Sushi Noz, is the rare uptown restaurant popular with the downtown set. A roast chicken (with its much-chattered-about price of $78), filet mignon with fries and a rotating omelette give the spot its bistro bona fides. Still, for our money, your money is better spent on the assorted charcuterie, which includes salmon rillettes with cucumber, foie gras and jamón iberico with Marcona almonds. (Bonus: Shockingly, the bread and butter are free.) Don't skip dessert: here, the French classics are done right, with a gorgeous, crackling crème brulee and dark chocolate mousse served with chantilly cream. It's all very romantic—and why wouldn't it be, in the intimate room of just 12 tables? Chez Fifi is named for Firouzeh Foulquier, the mother of the brothers who run the place, and while it doesn't feel like home, necessarily, it's a lovely little place to stay awhile. After all, you scored the reservation—and it'll take a while to get another—so you'll want to make it last. The vibe: Folks who can afford a $78 roast chicken or have an assistant who can nab a table, plus foodies who simply must try the hottest table. The food: Elegant charcuterie, bistro classics like steak frites and an omelette and French desserts that are worth the wait. The drink: Espresso martinis served with ladyfingers, rhubarb sours and other elevated twists on classic cocktails.

Football fans are urged to write to their MP and club heroes over World Cup dog killings in Morocco
Dogs on a truck in Morocco - Animal News Agency Animal welfare campaigners are calling on football fans to write to their MP and get their footballing heroes to do likewise, over the brutal mass killing of dogs in Morocco ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition (IAWPC), a global alliance of 27 animal charities including the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and PETA, is urging constituents to ask their MPs to raise the issue with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and put pressure on FIFA to take action. It follows mounting international outrage over Morocco's ongoing extermination of its free roaming dog population, with shocking footage revealing animals being poisoned, shot and beaten in full view of tourists and children in cities that are set to host the World Cup. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Among those backing the IAWPC's campaign are renowned wildlife broadcaster Chris Packham, music legend Gary Numan, and Downton Abbey actor Peter Egan. TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, world-famous primatologist Dr Jane Goodall, and French screen icon Brigitte Bardot who have also voiced their support. Legendary musician Gary Numan, said: 'Dogs are loyal and loving, and this is a human-made problem, which is being dealt with in a way that dishonours not only these beautiful animals, but the people of Morocco. 'To make matters worse, this is all in the name of football. Anyone who has ever thrown a ball for their own dog and anyone with a heart will understand how disgusting this is. 'Please join me in calling for the government of Morocco to urgently think again on this cruelty. And to call for FIFA to stipulate that if there is no humane treatment of animals, there will be no World Cup for Morocco.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Les Ward MBE, chairman of the IAWPC and long-time campaigner against animal cruelty, said: 'We are appealing directly to compassionate people across Nottingham and across the UK, to take a stand. This cruelty is being carried out in the name of the world's most popular sport – the so-called 'beautiful game'. That's not just wrong, it's obscene. 'The footballing world must show that this kind of brutality has no place within sport and will not be tolerated.' The IAWPC is calling for FIFA to make Morocco's World Cup hosting conditional on an immediate end to the brutal killing and replaced, with the immediate adoption of ethical, humane dog population management methods.
